Well, it\'s that time again -- another blockbuster movie has seen its release this summer and it\'s time for the typical people who enjoy movies to love it, and the typical people who enjoy movies to hate it. Lets see what you think anyway as it raises our post counts or some such.
I loved it. Great action. Great comedy. Great ending.
"Go get \'em, Tiger."
One of the top two best superhero movies ever -- if not the best.
-
I\'m kinda mixed on it. To much soppy crap. Needed more action, Was a good chick flick.
-
Now I\'ve heard it all -- a movie is now bad for having a story. No wonder why Hollywood is the way it is to the eyes of so many.
-
not out on theater untill tomorow here... cant wait to see this movie.

well ryu..it seems you\'re damned if you do & damned if you don\'t
-
You call over done whining a story. Ryu, u don\'t like other peoples opinions don\'t ask for them. When i go to see a action movie, i atleast expect there to be more action then soppy shit.
-
So what\'s the ending all about?
-
Cant wait to see it tonight. Do you think it was better than the first one Ryu?
-
Let me know guys if you think I can take Logan. He freaking loved the first one and shoots webs at me every time I tell him to do something. He really wants to see this movie, but I just want to make sure it\'s not too gorey.
-
I think its a little to gory. You may want to rent "house of 1000 corpses". Now theres some family entertainment!
-
heh gore factor is bout same as first with maybe some scenes of blood but nothing more then maybe cuts really
altho i would say this movie has a bit more of a darker theme at times its nothing to worry bout
very good movie - well worth getting too little sleep last nite when it got out at 3am and i had to work at 7:30am
-
There\'s a lot more action in this one, Vid, but surprisingly enough, there\'s nowhere near as much blood as the first (Spider-Man doesn\'t eat a pumpkin bomb or anything), but the fight scenes are much more well done. It\'s much more stylized, but there\'s no blood to really be seen even though plenty of scenes could have gone that way, Raimi never takes the extra step to add it.
So what\'s the ending all about?
Even though I put a spoiler warning in this thread, you do a diservice to yourself if you don\'t see what happens at the end first hand. However, some people don\'t want to see it so I\'m going to put it in the spoiler tags.
[sp]During the film, Doc Ock takes MJ hostage and after Peter rescues her, he unmasks to show Ock that he can be trusted to shut down his machine and tries to appeal to the human side of the machine (as Ock is basically two entities after he gets his tentacles) and achieves that goal. When he goes to leave as Ock sacrifices himself to stop the experiment, MJ sees him unmasked and finally understands what it is that\'s been happening in his life and why things for him are so complicated.
As a result, and after Peter finally confesses everything, MJ leaves her husband at the altar and goes to Peter\'s place to say that she\'s willing to face everything he and Spider-Man face on a daily basis as long as it\'s with him. As they kiss, Peter hears sirens in the background and he turns towards the open window to look at it, MJ turns his head back and says "Go get \'em, Tiger" and off he goes to rescue whatever.
Before all of that though, after Harry unmasks Spider-Man to reveal it\'s Peter Parker in his estate, Harry is totaly awestruck and filled with depression and anger after he leaves to go rescue MJ. Harry, totaly filled with anger, starts to hear the goblin laugh and his father(!) appears in the infamous mirror from the first movie telling Harry that now he knows what happened and it\'s time to avenge his death and when he yells no at his father, he throws a knife through the mirror to reveal a secret passageway and finds all of his father\'s gear from the Green Goblin including like 200 pumpkin bombs, the mask, and the glider.[/sp]
And that\'s about it. Totaly awesome ending.
You call over done whining a story. Ryu, u don\'t like other peoples opinions don\'t ask for them. When i go to see a action movie, i atleast expect there to be more action then soppy shit.
What whining was there? He\'s a man who is always getting the short end of the stick which is what Spider-Man is all about. I mean, he saves people countless times and he lives in a friggin dump and his regular life suffers as a result and when he makes a tough choice, the people he loves still end up getting hurt no matter what he does. It\'s a choice always presented in the comics and well done here in the film. I just don\'t understand what you mean by it being soppy (sappy?) shit. It was a really well told and engaging store. Shoot, just retyping the ending up above brought back lots of great memories of the film, which, not all of themby a long shot, are action oriented. I\'ll go as far as to say that even though the action was darn awesome, the majority of the best parts are the ones that make you laugh. I just don\'t see why that\'s a bad thing.
-
Jeez, did all of you march down to see it at midnight last night? I don\'t understand that at all. I\'m looking forward to seeing it, but not enough to stay up that late on a work night. Furthermore, why would you voluntarily have your first viewing of the movie ruined by an auditorium full of drunks and talking kids?
-
Well, the only people who saw the midnight showing, at least at this point, were me and Sublime while Soully probably saw it day one when it was released in Australia a couple days ago.
-
I don\'t care, thanx Ryu now I don\'t have to spend my money to see it.:D
-
Come out here yesterday. Saw it during the day. Its not like i didn\'t like the movie, i did. I just felt they should have tone downed the "tear jerkin" stuff. The Train scene was probably the best action scene in the movie.. imo.
-
I really liked it... especially the action sequences. That subway fight was really, really well done. They\'ve gotten perfectly seamless with the CG now, and the movement of the CG spidey is great. A bit soppy with the MJ element.. but then again that\'s a huge element of the overall spiderman universe, so I\'m ok with that.
-

i was gonna ask the same thing caleb loved the first one so much he stole the dvd from luke
-
Lona wants me to D/L the thing to make sure we can take him. I then tell her that it\'s illegal to do that and that\'s a no no, plus I just don\'t want to see it like that. Logan absolutely loves going to the movies and he is so darn good. I think he will love it. He knows all about Doc Oc and all that crap. He is totally into it.
-
Rawked my sawks. Best super hero movie yet. Couldn\'t have been done better. Can\'t wait to see it again.
vid, there were some little girls with their parents sitting right in front of us who couldn\'t have been more than 4 or 5. They never screamed or anything, in fact they were cheering on spiderman in a few parts:)

So what are you guys thinking for the third movie? I\'m thinking Venom and Carnage, they could make it so badass.
Ryu, I\'m sure you\'ve read the comic books. What are the chances we could see the Green Goblin(obvious), Venom, and Carnage? I\'ve only watched the cartoon and that was some time ago.
-
Venom and Carnage are kind of far out there in terms of realism. Not saying Doc Oc or the Hob Goblin is decently realistic but Venom and Carnage are really way out there. Carnage has no chance of being in the next one. He\'s a crazy mofo leeching off others, but Venom really was the epic villain for the cartoon that there may be a chance for him to be in it.
I\'m really interested now to find out who the next villain will be. Kingpin and a cronnie villain working for him is my guess.
-
I just did some reading about Carnage and you\'re right, it\'s way out there. Couldn\'t find any background info on Venom.
Somehow I had completley forgotten about Kingpin...I do remember some of the other villains though. Hydroman, Scorpion, and Mysterio come to mind though I can\'t really picture any of them in the next movie.
-
Must...see...it
However, I won\'t get around to it until the weekend.
-
It\'ll most likely be Hob Goblin in part 3.
-

Actually I believe they\'re going in the order that the comics went in and the Goblin and Doc Oc were the first two villians. Venom and Carnarge don\'t come until way later in the series, you\'re right about that.
-
I would personally like to see The Shocker, Juggernaut, Mysterio, or even Kraven as candidates for a future Spiderman sequel...
however The Lizard is definitely one of the main old classic spiderman villains that cannot be ignored. Venom and Carnage are stupid modern characters. This series needs to stick with the Silver Age all the way.
Rhino was supposed to be a big spiderman villain, but I think of him more in connection with The Hulk. I would like to see him and The Leader in a future Hulk movie.
-
I think they\'re going with intelligent villains all the way.
Green Goblin(said Hob earlier was mistake)+Doc Oc=brilliant thinkers. Mysterio, Lizard, Rhyno, Shocker=thugs incapable of hatching extraordinary crimes.
I thought they were only making 3 films anyways...atleast that\'s what Kristen Dunst said on Letterman last night. The next one has to be the biggest and you can\'t get bigger than Kingpin. My guess again is Kingpin with a villain like Lizard or Green Goblin working for him.
-
I hope Kingpin is not Michael Clarke Duncan again. Seriously... even using that character might make a dangerous connection to that POS Daredevil movie. If I were the producer, I would not let that happen.
-
I like to think Dare Devil never existed. :(
-
OK, some clarification.
Venom is a villain who is indeed far down the line, but there have been many liberties taken with the series thus far. They did away with the whole Gwen Stacy arc and that was quite possibly one of the most defining moments in Spider-Man\'s illustrious superhero career. If they can do away with Gwen, then I predict Venom will be in the fourth film. There\'s a rumor going around that Raimi would like to film 3 and 4 back to back (EG: LOTR, Matrix 2 and 3), but the contract goes that Maguire, Dunst, Franco, and Raimi are only signed on for three movies and then quitting afterwards. The Spider-Man movies are however contracted for 7 installments no matter the cast or director.
Spider-Man 3 will be about Green Goblin 2 (Hob Goblin comes around far later) and he does nothing but go after Peter and his family. From my experience, an audience would absolutely hate that as that was what part one was all about basically. part 3 will probably do a double villain film with Green Goblin 2 and someone as yet unnamed. I wouldn\'t be surprised if they tossed the Rhino in there as a double threat -- have him get away, and do away with him in part 4 which is where I think the whole black spider and venom arc will come into play.
Venom is from either the Moon or from Mars -- I can\'t remember which in the shape of some black rock or some type of goo that comes back with John Jameson (J. Jonah Jameson\'s son -- the astronaut who was introduced in this film) and somehow finds its way to Peter who wears it just like his regular Spider-Man suit and it starts to take control of him and up the violence considerably which is where the Rhino takes a serious pounding and will go off the screen. After finally seeing himself in this situation, Peter ditches the suit -- or the suit gets away and feels seriously rejected and absolute hates Peter -- and finds somebody with just about as much hate for Peter in the form of Eddie Brock who was introduced by name only in the first film. When Jameson offers a cash reward for pictures of Spider-Man, just before hand, one of his workers says "Eddie\'s been on it for weeks and can barely get a glimpse of this guy" and Eddie hates Parker as he\'s the one who always brings in these astonishing shots that Eddie can never land of the wall crawler. Once the suit and Eddie merge, the two form Venom and have an all out fight with Parker that would be totaly awesome on screen.
It\'s also important to note that the sonic weapon that can defeat Venom is created by Dr. Connors (also introduced in this film as the one armed professor) and it\'s totaly possible that he\'ll be the second villain in the third film in the form of the Lizard. I\'m just trying to throw options out there. Only the Rhino could take the pounding Peter puts on when he dawns the Black Spider outfit.
-
Rami has stated time and time again he will never do Venom or Carnage - so do not expect that to happen in Spider-Man 3 . The most logical explantions would be Hob Goblin or The Lizard. The idea of just re-using the Green Goblin and making it \'Green Goblin 2\' would not work for the film, like it does for other media formats.
-
^ I agree.. Green goblin, been there done that... Hob Goblin is another story.
-

Damn, I like the way Ryu layed it out.

Just so you people know I\'m the resident spiderman expert here.... I have a huge collection that I have collected since I was 10 still in plastic bages and I read them all once before I place them in the bags I still collect today and have well over 3000 comic books that are just Spiderman.. This is what makes me a Nerd and Computers make me a geek anyway...
In the Secret-Wars Spider-Man was on some planet. Along with other super heroes, such as Captain America, and super villains, including Dr. Doom, Spidey was brought to the planet by the Beyonder. The Beyonder wanted heroes and villains to fight a war. Spiderman fought many battles and his costume was left in shred he found a machine that could replace ruined clothing. Spiderman triggered the clothing machine and a round black object sprang from it and slithered around spiderman\'s body.
After defeating the villains and escaping the Beyonder, spidey returned to Earth, and took his alien costume with him. To make a long story short Dr Richards from the Fantastic four found out the costume was actually a simbiot and was trying to bond with spidrman forever and they blasted the costume off of him with sound. The BlackCat thought that spidey looked sexier in the black and she made him one and he wore both on and off for a lot of books.
I havent seen two yet and therefore havent read any spoilers but I will see it this weekend. If doc oc is the only villian in here number three will defianlty have the kingpin spiderman and him have a long history and everyone loves the mafia sooo it only makes since to me. also they will want to carry on the green goblin story wich harry will become..
Lets face it will this is Spiderman they have just barely kept to the orginol ( ie: the comic book spiderman could not shoot webs out of his wrists) and do not have time to carry out all of the villians that us true spiderman junkies know so I think the will go hollywood and jumo ahead and bring someone like the shocker in.
-
I haven\'t seen 2 yet so don\'t crucify me if this is completely off. I heard that Oswald\'s (Green Goblin) son was going to kind of reincarnate the Green Goblin. He could of died in 2 and I just don\'t know it though so, if he did indeed die just let me know.

That\'s good, and the explanation you gave is fine for comics, but that would never work on screen which is why I went off the cartoon storyline. They could always go the Ultimate route which is where the symbiont was genetically by Peter\'s and Eddie\'s fathers in a lab as a cure for cancer as it could regenerate cells and the like but when it attached itself to a host, the goo became self aware and developed a mind of its own which incorporate some really evil tendencies and later attached itself to Eddie in the end. That\'s a story line that works very well for the screen in my opinion.
-
didnt spider man mutate at some point of time (in the cartoon) I recall the dude from X men (the dude that has the same powers as Rogue almost) hunting spiderman down (as the mutated version) and turning him back normal. I just remember watching the episode where peter parker slept for like 3 days and started losing his abilities till he finally just turned into a spider monster.
-
Spiderman 2\'s hint at future villains. (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=529&ncid=529&e=16&u=/ap/20040629/ap_en_mo/spider_man_s_future_villains_1)
Perhaps a triple threat for the third, nice:)
I don\'t remember wolf-man from the cartoon...
-
Yea the Man-Wolf character is definitely a new one.

The movie was not terrible, but it didn\'t quite meet my expectations.
We could have done with a little less verbal philosophizing from Aunt May, Mary Jane, and others. It just becomes a bit tedious, and the way it was handled made it difficult for me to take seriously. I am not a normal american moviegoer who requires constant action and visual effects. I like a good drama; but if this was trying to be an effective character drama, it didn\'t work too well.
[sp]I also didn\'t understand some of the choices in the story construction. It took forever for Peter Parker to decide he didn\'t want to be Spiderman anymore, then he changes his mind back again with no strong event to force him to. He changed his mind back BEFORE Doc Ock threw the car at him and threatened MJ. I would have preferred if it was more like Superman 2, and he only returned because he had no choice.
I was hoping for a better explanation for Peter losing his superpowers. My friend suggested that even something as stupid as "he needed love in his life" would have been better than the explanation they used. It would have been nice if they had made it so that as soon as Mary Jane stroked him, he was able to squirt his webshooters again. :)[/sp]
Visual effects were nice, but still a couple errors here and there. Much better than the first film. Character animation was much much better than before.
That\'s all folks. Vid, please don\'t take your kid to see this movie. We don\'t need anymore crying / talking / squirming babies in movie theaters. I had enough of that in the theater I went to.
-
Yeah I did too during White Chicks.
-

I definitely agree with this, but I don\'t think it has to do too much with the speeches, but that this screenwriter was absolutely terrible writing dialogue for women. He just can\'t grasp them. Really weird.

He decided to change back because of what Aunt May told him about being a hero and that the world needs more of them, but psychologically, he was still on the fence about it. He was basically fooling himself into thinking the city really needed him.. and then he fell again and hurt his back and that was that.
I was hoping for a better explanation for Peter losing his superpowers. My friend suggested that even something as stupid as "he needed love in his life" would have been better than the explanation they used. My friend and I agreed that saying he had a case of non-contagious Motaba or something that showed up as just flu symptoms to him would have been a much better explanation for his "off" powers. Making it a psychological ailment didn\'t really add to the dynamic of his character. It was pretty much rammed home with that Uncle Ben scene.
-
****ing unbelievable.
-
I just saw the movie, and I also have to say I thought it was amazing. I was definitely impressed with it, and I love how many different things I saw them setting up.
As for the future movies, this is my theory. I believe the next one will has to have the Green Goblin the way they ended this one. I also think that they will focus a lot on the Lizard story line and add him in as a second villian to try to keep from being repetitive and having a similar villian to the first movie.
How many movies are they planning on making though? I may have more theories involving future movies, depending on how many there will be.
-
Just saw it... Definitely an awesome flick, much better than the first. I was surprised at the Doctor Octopus villain, I thought he\'d be kind of lame but he kicked major ass.
The entire theater applauded when Peter and MJ kissed; man I think applauding during a movie is lame.
-
man I think applauding during a movie is lame.
What\'s wrong with expressing excitement? It\'s no different when someone cheers at the TV when watching a football game and I\'m sure you do that.
-
I dunno... honestly I don\'t have a tantrum when everybody applauds, I just kinda smirk to myself. That, and my hand was on a chick\'s ass and I had to move it so I could applaud. :(
-
Applauding from a movie... uh-huh "shakes head"
-
*Shrugs* I just don\'t get the double standard. Though the ass thing is indeed acceptable.

I am goin\' to see it later today, all I have to say is it has to be better than the first one, which I have alwayds felt was a diaster.
. That, and my hand was on a chick\'s ass and I had to move it so I could applaud.
Why would your mother let you put your hand on her ass durin the movie?
;)
-
Besides the baddies set up in this movie..
Eddie Brock was in the first one (even if Rami doesn\'t want to do Venom).
I think venom is the best spidey-villain. But if they go with classics, they can also use the hunter, mysterio, lizard, more goblin... They have lots of options for a third, fourth, fifth.....

Actually they are different. If you cheer while watching a sporting event on TV, you are acknowledging a real, live event that\'s happening somewhere at that very moment. The outcome affects other events in the real world.
If you applaud DURING a typical movie, you are reacting to a fictional event written 2 years ago, perfomed 12 months ago, edited together 4 months ago, and played back at thousands of auditoriums simultaneously all across the country. Kind of pointless if you ask me, but I know people are stupid, so there\'s no avoiding it.

Not true. The same people who cheer during a sporting event also cheer if they tape it and watch it at home so long as the events of the game have not been disclosed to them. It\'s exactly the same for a movie. It may not be live, but it\'s exciting to see what happens nevertheless considering it\'s a total mystery to you.

Thus my statement:
"The outcome affects other events in the real world."
A sporting event is a real world event. A fictional movie is not.
-
Why cheer either....
I only cheer when it matters. IE AT a sporting event, concert, play, etc. If the actual people you are applauding can hear you, it\'s worth it. Otherwise... I mean really. Nobody (important :p) can hear you clapping at your TV. The workers in the theatre don\'t care if you applaude a movie... it\'s just a wierd thing to do.
I always feel kinda sorry for the handfull of people that try to start applause at the end of a movie when it just peters out.
-
I thought it was just a tiny bit overrated, but certainly better then the first. I thought they could have done more with Doc\'s character, but it was still pretty good.
Would someone mind explaining the story of Hob Goblin? Im quite confused about that.
-

How about crying? How about feeling any emotional attachment what so ever for the characters being portrayed. If those people who clapped felt that good about it then good for them. Personally, the movie put a big grin on my face all the way out to my car.
Was that stupid of me?
-
If you took that "what does it matter" approach to everything you did, I\'m sure you\'d find a lot of things that you do throughout your life to be just as equally pointless. I digress though, if something during the movie excites me and makes me want to cheer in some way be it clapping or yelling, I will do just that. I\'ll be damned if I\'m going to be a total stone face for 2 hours simply because it doesn\'t matter as the people who made the film can\'t hear me. Either way, you being stone faced and me being excited if something awesome happens, neither will change the fate of the universe, but I know I\'d rather be with a crowd who is into the movie and enjoying it and expressing their enjoyment then a crowd who sits there like they\'re attending a funeral. Just my opinion of course.
-
Perhaps I show my enjoyment without making noise that might disturb others in a theatre....? Lots of movies go from a \'action - cheery part\' to a one liner from the hero or badguy... which is never upto the volume of the rest.
For me, I always think people who get so into a movie that they can\'t control their physical outbursts are kinda wierd... and in the minority for movies I go to (when they aren\'t full of kids). Last think I want when I go to a theatre is to be within 2 seats of any loudmouth or talker.
-

This is what I\'m saying.
Applauding = Voluntary response that is also quite loud and disturbs others in the theater
Talking to your friend or to the screen = Voluntary response that is noticable and disturbs others in the theater
Crying = Involuntary response that is usually unnoticable to others in the theater
So yes... I am saying that if you can\'t control your hands from clapping and your mouth from yapping, then you ARE stupid. Applauding at the end of the movie during the credit roll is fine with me, but please don\'t do it DURING the movie.
-
Brief thoughts on the film:
Rami needs to drop Bruce Campell . He does not need a cameo in every film. He is a weak actor who does nothing but bring every scene he is in down by two notches.
Rami really ruined a perfect chance with Doc Oct. wakin\' up. Instead, he went back to his \'Evil Dead\' film making and it was really poor.
With that said , I loved the rest of the film. I did think the whole idea of the AI controlling Doc Oct was cheap and it would of been more effective if he would of just suffered some sort of brain damage... But, overall it was a great movie, hell I even got teary eyed when MJ said "go get\'em , Tiger".
Great movie, but I wouldn\'t mind if Rami was dropped for the third or if he would at least move on and get rid of annoying things like Campell (who should be shot in the head, by the way).
Oh and I hated the first one.
:)

So who exactly in the city does not know Peter Parker is Spiderman. Friggin ridiculous.

DONT TELL ME YOU VE GOT THE DUEL BETWEEN SPIDER MAN AND WOLVERINE
-
Oh and for the notion that Kingpin will be a villian in the third... WRONG
Little fact for you, from Imdb.com.
Although the characters Daredevil and Spider-Man coexist in the comics, it was decided that all obvious references to the latter character had to be removed since the licenses were given to separate film companies. This includes the decision that The Kingpin, a Spider-Man enemy, would never appear in the Spider-Man film franchise and the character Ben Urich, a reporter who is a colleague and occasional professional partner of Peter Parker in the comics, would not work for the Daily Bugle. Michael Clarke Duncan would nonetheless reprise the role of Kingpin for the animated "Spider-Man" (2003) series.

Do you mean the scene when Doc Ock is in the hospital, and the surgeons are preparing to remove the tentacles? I think that\'s quite a stretch. Spiderman 2 was not written by Raimi, only directed by him. It\'s true that Raimi does occasionally bring his characteristic visual style to this film, but to say it\'s an exact copy is an extreme exaggeration.
BTW Raimi has developed a much more conservative and laid back style with these Spiderman movies and his other mass market films like "A Simple Plan." No more crash zooms and hand held high speed cameras like in the Evil Dead movies and The Quick and the Dead. I wish he would let his freak flag fly a little more.
-
So yes... I am saying that if you can\'t control your hands from clapping and your mouth from yapping, then you ARE stupid.
I don\'t talk during the film, but if I clap and others join me, then so be it. If that makes me stupid, then allow me to respond in kind to you stone faced people who are incapable of expressing joy when watching a film:
F*ck you. :)

Do you have a clue? The scene with Doc Oct waking up was directed with the same style and "Flair" as Evil Dead. The camera angles, the screaming and everything. It was an obvious throwback to Evil Dead.
He\'s a hack director who got lucky with this one in my opinion... Evil Dead sucked, Simple Plan was medicore and Spider-Man was a diaster. The sequel was good tho\'.
-
I think I have a much better clue than you.
There\'s a difference between "same style and flair" and "exact copy." That\'s what I was trying to point out. Your whole point was apparently how much you hated the Evil Dead movies. That surprises me coming from a professed movie freak like yourself. You\'re entitled to your opinion of course, but I don\'t agree with it.
The Evil Dead series, (at least 1 & 2) were something genuinely novel and different from american horror cinema in the 80s. To me they were a welcome relief from the endless assembly line "Friday the 13th" and "Nightmare on Elm Street" prefab horror films that were churned out during that empty decade. They may not be great art, but I appreciate them at least for that reason alone.

The Evil Dead films are not novel and never have been. They was low budget, cheesy, bad acting films that only got popular due to (1) tree rape , (2) gore and (3) camp. If you want low budget with actual style, then please, go watch Peter Jackson\'s earlier work, that was low budget horror with style.. Sam Rami\'s was low budget crap.

Way to ignore the posts that didn\'t insult you (where is LIC\'s post anyways... an earlier page? I couldn\'t find it).
Either way, if you\'re ever in Ottawa.. and you start clapping DURING a movie, don\'t be surprised if you\'re one of a very few. Also, don\'t take offence when a little bufferzone opens up in seats around you as people move to seats where they won\'t be bothered by you.
I, like most people, am not stonefaced. I just don\'t feel it necessary to make noise and disrupt the quiet \'spectator\' atmosphere of a movie theatre. I guess we differ there. Be mature about it, rather than combative (come on Ryu, that\'s what you\'re known for).
Crying, smiling, grinning, frowning, almost every emotion can be done without noise. Laughter is an obvious exception, but comedies tend to leave room after jokes for the audience to laugh and then settle down before they move onto a line or important scene.

Ok, there is just way to much to read so im just going to post what I have to say. The movie was great. I loved it, Doc Ock was a great villian and the action scenes were amazing and the story was great.
About Spider Man 3.
Of coarse they will have the green goblin as Harry, what else would they do after than ending? It will make it more difficult though because Peter will probally find out it\'s Harry and not know what to do. The second villian is going to be the lizard.
Also, I read that Venom, takes control of peter. That may happen in the comic books but not in the cartoon. In the cartoon, venom takes of someone. I think that if they do include Venom they will take that road because they can have a good spider vs. bad spider fight.

I don\'t recall LiC posting in this thread about this particular topic.
Either way, if you\'re ever in Ottawa.. and you start clapping DURING a movie, don\'t be surprised if you\'re one of a very few. Also, don\'t take offence when a little bufferzone opens up in seats around you as people move to seats where they won\'t be bothered by you.
Exactly ... In Ottawa... I\'ll make sure to keep that on a list of cities never to visit. Lets get down to it though, I watch movies on the first day and if it\'s a big movie like this one with a huge following and lots of fans from the first, you\'re guaranteed to get fanboys and movie-goers in there who are VERY excited about what\'s going down. Spider-Man 2 is but one example of this, but another is the Star Wars films where you get the same type of following at opening shows and it\'s GREAT fun to be there with them and enjoying the film with them here in the Bay Area.
When I went to see Episode I for the first time, someone had brought a beach ball to keep the entire packed audience occupied before the film and people were hitting it high up into the air. Afterwards, when the movie had started, people were cheering like crazy as soon as Darth Maul unsheethed his double light-sabre and the same people who enjoyed and loved that were there for Episode II and cheered when Yoda got down to it and kicked ass. I find those crowds to be a whole lot of fun and very enjoyable to watch movies with as they can get into it and enjoy it just the same as you can.
Maybe that\'s just the Bay Area, but when we spend ten dollars per ticket and often take two or three of our friends, we are going to enjoy ourselves to the fullest extent and that\'s just how we react to moments on screen when great things happen. Though, to step away from the whole nerd-lore for a second, would you have chastized the people who said "Oh God" fairly silently when they watched the D-Day scene in Saving Private Ryan? That\'s probably one of the most jarring scenes in a war film and I for one can\'t blame them for their reaction to something so horrific and disturbing -- let alone the realization that it actually happened in real life. I\'m sure when we were all sitting in the theatre, we all had a few "Oh my God"\'s we\'d like to express when watching that.
Whatever though. Maybe the Bay Area, or California as a whole, is just that much more into its films.
I, like most people, am not stonefaced. I just don\'t feel it necessary to make noise and disrupt the quiet \'spectator\' atmosphere of a movie theatre. I guess we differ there. Be mature about it, rather than combative (come on Ryu, that\'s what you\'re known for).
Heh. I never realized it before, but swearing and insults illicites a far more enjoyable response then when I approach topics even handedly. As a matter of fact, lots of my replies to topics that are even handed tend to get ignored for the most part no matter the length or the points. From now on though, instead of wasting everyone\'s time by illustrating points and stating facts as literately as possible, I\'m just going to keep it simple and make my points in about as few words as possible. If a simple "F*ck you" happens to be that response in retort to someone insulting me or the way I do things as it conflicts with the way they do it themselves, then that\'s the way it should be.
For the record though, I clapped during Episode I and II and cheered during the scenes mentioned and I was not alone and many other people joined in as well. I thought Daredevil, Hellboy and Hulk were fine films though for totaly different reasons. Micheal Moore\'s movie is a documentary no matter what anyone thinks about its one sided views. Spider-Man 2 was an awesome flick and everyone in the audience clapped and cheered when Mary Jane said "Go get \'em, tiger." and then clapped again when the credits rolled no more then two minutes later. I will see movies on the first day with people who, like me, enjoy the characters and the series of films if it\'s a sequal or a continuation -- like I did for Spider-Man 2 at the midnight showing on Tuesday. Finally, don\'t go to a first day showing of a popular anticipated movie here in the Bay Area if you don\'t want clapping. You\'re guaranteed to get it.
Is it possible for you guys to post your oppinions and have a civilized debate w/o flaming each other in the process?
I\'ve tried that, it\'s not interesting and no one cares.

OK, and for the gore.
Which was also cheesy.
And gratuitous.

Anyone that claps in a non live cinema is a geek.
Please don\'t compare it to laughing/crying or whatever. Its a different ball game.
You clap to applaud good work done by people that can appreciate the fact you\'re doing it. So who you clapping to in a pre-recorded projecting cinema?
If you\'re clapping because you’re happy, there is such a thing as smiling.
not that its a bad thing to be a geek........... in certain fields.

Clapping during a film doesn\'t mean you\'re more into it, or anything near that. Just means you\'re willing to make a complete fool of yourself. If your\'e right in saying everyone in your area does, then I would honestly not go to the theaters to see any movie.
Comparisons between sporting events and this is also laughable. Then again we\'re trying to reason with someone who enjoyed "The Hulk".

Hey now, I enjoyed \'The Hulk\' ..
:(

I think applauding for a sporting event, whether live or on TV, is completely different than applauding for a movie. When you applaud watching a game on TV if something remarkable happens of course you\'re going to be prone to the typical "YES!" and "Woohoo!" because that\'s just natural instinct; some peole are initially more excited than others. If you\'re attending the actual game itself then of course you\'re going to hear more cheers and screams because everyone wants to be heard when they\'re live. Applauding at the movies is more like watching the game on TV. Someone who\'s interested in the actual movie is more feasible to make a comment than someone who got dragged along with a significant other, sibling, etc. But anyway this is so redundant, some places it\'s okay to applaud and cheer in a movie, other places you could be crucified for it... every place is different..
-
I guess I could comment on the subject at hand. The audience I was with clapped durin\' the ending of Spider-Man 2.
Thank you ..
-
Well I saw it instead of fireworks and it was much better that a bunch of silly little fireworks... I thought Doc Oc was very cool and it was pretty funny I took a bunch of 10-14 year olds so I think I need to go again by myself and from what I saw in the movie the next villians in 3 will be the green goblin again and The Lizard (Dr. Conners) who was his teacher (note the one arm as he walked away on campus) and the friend of Doc Oc a runner up will be the scorpion
-
I start clapping everytime I hit the post button.
-
I clap everytime the toilet flushes.
-
I went to another screening of Spider-Man 2 and I went ahead and did it the stone-faced route and even with half the theatre full, mostly adults, and me not initiating a clap, the entire audience still did anyways at various scenes including, but not limited to, the credits! What is this?! How can this be?! omgzorz, thos people are all stupid because teh event is not livee11111!!! Omgzzzorrz, a lot of overpaid steroid abusing sportsman weren\'t there to hear it after hitting the 99 millionth homerun and people still clapped! Holy f*cking shit!!1111 omgzzoeororororeozz...
Then again we\'re trying to reason with someone who enjoyed "The Hulk".
What reasoning would that be? That you think it\'s stupid? Oh, now there\'s good cause for me to stop doing anything and everything! A couple of forum-goers who I never met in my life think it\'s stupid, that reasoning is beyond contestation! Holy shit! You have changed me for the good of all mankind!

You didn\'t by any chance see the movie in Oakland, did you?
:fro:
-
All people in Oakland do is talk during the movie. "Oh snap! Dock Ock just kicked Spidey\'s ass just like little Dillon did to his friend AJ last week, oh shit, that was the SHIZZLE! Yeh, dayyyym, dat boy was off da hook!" Repeat that for 5 minute segments at a time.
-
Ryu, you\'re not half as clever as you think you are. With that being said, cheering/clapping in any sporting event will never be the same as in a movie theather, no matter how hard you try. One is predetermined, the other isn\'t. I\'m not completely sure if thats the deciding factor for me, but that sums up what I can put into words.

Oh really? Then explain wrestling for me. The events of that are pre-determined and scripted every week, but that sure doesn\'t stop the people from cheering and being excited. Last time I watched wrestling, or even browsed past it on TV, it seemed to me that every arena they were in was totaly packed to the brim with people wanting to watch. They seem to be just as excited as someone at a football game and far moreso then anyone at a baseball game.

hey wrestling is real! :p what\'s all this yap about cheering in cinema\'s compared to a live event? what am i missing here? what\'s the point?
-
No point. Since when did anything on Central ever have a point? I\'m in this for length and irritation.

Rya got into you for the same reasons to bad she only ended up with the irritation 1 out of 2 isn\'t bad.

You\'re not cute, Cyrus. Keep your idiocy in check.

I do keep my idiocy in check thats why I stick to threads you post in...
Besides your opion of me doesnt really matter but thanks for stoping by and have a great day!
-
Can\'t we aspire to something greater than comparing ourselves to wrestling fans? :(
Besides a wrestling event is a live performance just like a play or an opera. You can applaud the actors for performing their roles well can\'t you?
By contrast, when you applaud in a movie theater, the creators of the movie can\'t hear you, and your expression of approval is heard only by other annoyed theater patrons. I don\'t know what kind of nerdfest theaters you attend Ryu, but if you try to applaud DURING a movie (not at the end) in Los Angeles, you will very likely be told to STFU by someone.
-

That makes no sense at all. Whatever though. I just don\'t think little personal attacks like that are warranted when they have nothing to do with anything being discussed in the thread. Keep your stupid pop-shots to yourself. No one is interested.
Besides your opion of me doesnt really matter but thanks for stoping by and have a great day!
Glad you feel that way. Just make sure you do the same with me as well and keep your stupidity in the trash where it belongs.

We could all hope so, but I don\'t think it\'s going to happen. :(

That\'s fine. Your personal experience differs from my own and that\'s all well and good. I think this particular topic has reached an impasse as most debates do. To switch gears a bit...
Spider-Man 2 is a good movie whether people clap or not. :)

POSSIBLE SPOILERS
- Anyone noticed about 3 very awkward scenes which made me actually bust out laughing? Peter is becoming a nerd again and is walking down the street while they play some jingly tune.
- MJ is running away from here wedding while the light from the sun hits her and she is smiling away like a Kodak moment.
- Peter is being slowly lifted up after the subway/traincar fight by the people inside the train.
at all of these parts I laughing uncontroably at how cheesy they were. I wasn\'t alone either.

Just for refrence high and mighty Ryu the all great. Your the prick that went off on me I just made a sarcastic statement as most men do when they are joking around with each other am I right people I mean dont tell me you havent made similar statment to one of your buds..
And you continued to carry your fake greatness demenor by trying again in your next post to make me feal unworthy of posting a retraction to you.
I aspire to someday have your greatness accept me...

Oh, this is great. You took an example I almost used and ran with it. Comparing wrestling fans to people that clap in movies is perfect. I think you get my opinion on wrestling fans.
Also, I just got home from finally seeing Spiderman 2. Not once did someone clap throughout the whole movie, thank god.

I don\'t know if that\'s fair. I think more highly of wrestling fans then of Nascar fans, but to each his own. However, I offer the same compromise as I did Cored, but accepting it depends on the answer to the following question...
Also, I just got home from finally seeing Spiderman 2. Not once did someone clap throughout the whole movie, thank god.
Despite that, what did you think of the film?
-
I\'m not positive yet, it normally takes me a little while to decide. Thinking back though I enjoyed it. Certain scenes were a joke but the action was well done and it exceded my expectations.
I don\'t know what compromise you offered him but sounds good to me. I\'m glad to see that we could drop the attitude and just discuss. In the end it\'s stupid for us to debate this because it\'s obvious certain areas of the country just handle things different and thats how we were each raised.

The compromise was that despite what we both think about clapping or in-theatre behavior, we both agree the film was very enjoyable. Glad to see you enjoyed it as well.

I ended up editing my post a little from that. I first put it as you dropped the attitude, but we both did. And yes, I did. :)

I said it once and I will say it again, Rami is a hack director .. If it wasn\'t for the fact that Spider-Man 2 had better CGI and there are 40 years worth of stories to make a movie out of, it would be a diaster.. Need further proof he\'s a hack director? Look at \'Darkman\', his first attempt at a superhero film. Complete and utter crap.

bah, all this holding hands & singing cumbyah crap is boring..finish debating about the movie & the clapping between cinema\'s & live events..:D

It could of worked, it had the cast (Liam Neeson is great),but the director was and still is a hack director who gained success from a crap-ass horror film named \'EviL Dead\'.
Thank you.

I dont do the scary movie thing as most here know so I havent seen any of those but I would have to say when doc oc went crazt with the um doctors in the hospital thats how I would think a cheezy horror film would be shot the dark underlighting and quick closeups
Overall this one was the best of the two and Im a huge fan anyway so of course it was all good.

Pee Wee Herman fwapped in a theatre once and went to jail.
Oh...CLAPPED!
Well...I snored in Spiderman 2. Must be coz I went to a midnight show.
-
I saw it a second time today, girl wanted to see it. I didn\'t have too much say in the matter. The action was entertaining the first time around but really the movie is mediocre, their was a lot of stuff that bothered me. The acting was horrible at times, especially in the terror parts. When the train was about to wreck the people were just chillen inside. When Aunt May was being held by Doc Oc she was also calm. What the hell? That and the cheesy scenes named earlier.
-
But dood, your wrong.. Ryu loved it, so it MUST be very good.
-
I tend to think it was a good super-hero film, but there was parts that could of been better... Still, it is the best Marvel film ...
Nothing touches Donner\'s Superman and Burton\'s Batman tho\'.
-
Toby\'s acting was ridiculous in this movie. The final battle at the pier with Doc Oc, when "Spiderman" was pleading with him to stop the reactor, he didn\'t seem all that desperate. I mean....the whole city was gonna get burned! But he sounded like someone told him that the ice cream machine was broken at McDonalds and he was like "When\'s it gonna be fixed?"
Toby....instead of acting annoyed, get ANGRY! TRY TO SOUND DESPERATE! I\'m starting to wonder if Leonardo should have been Peter Parker (there was an uproar about him being tagged for this role). His performance in "Gangs of New York" and "Catch Me If You Can" converted me from hating him to respecting his acting ability.
-
I liked it. For some reason I was very happy that people finally started to see his face and that she found out who he was. Oc turned out to be a decent villian after all.
I wish they would have more explained why he was losing his powers. I can\'t wait to see what happnes in the 3rd one.

Can someone explain to me how they eluded to the lizard in the movie? I understand the goblin, that was obvious, but how does the lizard get eluded to?

I hit a nerve there nerd umm ryu..

It\'s "alluded" I think... not to be a dick :).

You didn\'t hit any nerve, I was having fun. That\'s what the ":)" was for. :)

They didn\'t allude to him at all, just showed dr connors. That\'s all really. But usually, they don\'t show a future villain without some type of cause. It just seems like the next most likely candidate as people, at least now after the second movie, are somewhat familiar with him.

THanks Ryu. I heard an interview from Stan Lee and he has nothing to do with the movies at al, but he thinks it\'s Lizard also.
and Lilkub, you can\'t be what you don\'t have.

In another interview, I don\'t know if it was the same one, Stan also said that the Doc Ock arms that they made both digitally and constructed out of steel were far better then he ever imagined. I think that\'s pretty impressive.

The only complaint I have is I wanted to see more of Kirsten Dunst\'s boobies.
-
There are other hotter chicks with better boobies.

They definalty alluded to The Lizard the not only showed Dr. Connors but made a point to show the side where he had only one arm and that how he become the lizard by trying to replicate the lizard ability to grow appendiges back...

The common fan wouldn\'t know anything about the appendage growth portion of the lizard storyline. As far as any moviegoer is concerned, he\'s just a one armed professor who thinks Peter is brilliant but lazy. :)

Agreed but who says they made this movie for just the common movie goer. The average movie goer would know Stan Lee from Bruce Lee yet he still does his little cameo in this one and in the first...

Oh man, the movie was worth $10 just so I could view this
thread. Ryu, I love you! *hug* I wish I could copy and paste on these public computers, this\'d be a really long post.

Oh, and decent movie. I didn\'t really care for much of the dialogue (particularly scenes mentioned on pages one and two) but the action sequences with Doc Ock were great. Although, too few, IMO. The laughs were there, but I don\'t think it was as funny as some people make it out to be. Jameson was great, but not as great as the original (Meat!)
I\'d love to see Venom in the third, perhaps they\'ll simplify it, and Jameson\'s son will join with the symbiot after a trip to the mOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOn. Afterall, he does have reason to hate Peter AND Venom is a very popular character.
Oh, and applauding in a cinema is ok by me, but two things; 1) You\'re more likely to do it if you\'re in a group of people who are enjoying the movie as much as you are (ie. enough to applaud) thus, 2) You won\'t be the only weirdo in the crowd cheering and annoying the regular moviegoers. That being said, I\'ve never cheered. But at our local cinema, I believe when Episode 2 was shown for the first time everyone in the cinema cheered merely when the LucasArts subol appeared. God knows how many other times in the movie they would have cheered. It\'s all about the audience you\'re in.
Would it be innapropriate to cheer Jeremy Irons character in Lolita?

bleh see what you miss when no one wants to see spiderman with you the first week it\'s out?
Going to a theater is an experience. Spielburg put it best when he pointed out he\'d rather be in a theater full of people than his mansion watching a movie when something funny happened on screen. Crowd interaction helps heighten the experience, this includes clapping. Shows that we are human and have emotions too, I have no problem with that. But I will never clap at a flick, maybe just go CRIKEY.
As for the movie, the 2nd is definitely better than the first, not many movies you cna say that to. Still not satisfied with current CG in some scenes but overall it was pretty good.
PS- I am the only one that thinks Jake Gyllenhaal would have made a better Spiderman??

He\'s taller, also a great actor with really good facial expressions, and is Kirsten\'s real life play thing.

Kirsten Dunst sure has perky nipples.

he turns into man spider.. but to do that, we will have to have seen the lizard, morpheous, and ....grrrrr cant remeber his name, old man, in green, takes life of young peep, can fly, maybe the vulture????? there is so many, things that have to be done for the flms i dunno how there gonna do it... i mean when thye get the portals, that mj falls into, all the kingpin stuff, venom, carnage etc etc

Jake Gyllenhaal
He was the fan favorite and came close to landing the role originally and then when Tobey had back problems after Seabiscuit and was talkin\' about not returning, Jake was once agained offered the role... Personally, I hope Tobey either does not come back after his contract is done (which is after the third) and let Jake pick up the role. . .
Oddly enough also, Jake has tried out for the role of Superman and Batman . He seems dead set on landing the role of a super-hero. I do not see him as either Superman or Batman, but he would be the perfect Spiderman.
-
Now, was he horrible in The Day After Tomorrow because of bad writing or because of bad acting or because of both? I definitely don\'t want him near Spider-Man after that film. Horrible.
-
Bad writing. Ryu, check out \'Donnie Darko\' where Jake is simply brilliant.

If that\'s the only film you\'ve seen him in, then do not judge him yet. The guy is great. I love those characters he\'s created that seem sympathetic, but always a little bit "wrong." There\'s a taint of illness and doom with his characters that feels so real. Like LIC said, see "Donnie Darko" and also "The Good Girl." Pretty awesome.
-
Recommendations noted. Thank you. :) I will check them out before passing judgment.

I had forgot all about \'The Good Girl\'... Another great film . To be honest Ryu, I just went to see \'The Day After Tommorw\' just because Jake was in it, he is usually great.
-
I went and saw it for the special effects. Too bad the vast majority of them were shown in the trailers. :(
-
Before i start..im that guy that sees a lot of films a lot later than everyone else does..then talks about them and has everyone respond "what the f*ck?"
anyway..2 things worth posting. Not going to put spoiler tags since the movies old so.
1) Anyone think that MJ\'s husband is going to be venom? wasnt venom an airforce dude that went to space than got infected? I know someone said the guy from that 70\'s show is going to be him, but the guy in spiderman 2 is built like a guy that would play venom
and 2) I saw someone ask what the ending was about..maybe harry took his dad\'s stuff, became the hob goblin (i dont really know the background of some guys, so i doubt thats how the hob goblin started) then did something that would cause 2 helicopters and what-not?
-
I hope the third is better.
Bring on the black suit, biatches.
-
I honestly don\'t get teh black suit. But I guess I need to watch the movie.

Read the comics...

I don\'t have the time or money or care to buy all the comics :)
