Title: Need more music
Post by: Viper_Fujax on July 03, 2004, 11:17:17 PM
Im getting bored with the music iv had. Im either getting bored with the bands i have now, or i cant sit through anything new that i try to listen to. I kind of have a wideish range in likes but the bands that i dislike are the deep deep deep vocals (like Immolation).

Bands i listen to:
Slipknot
System of a down
At the Gates
In Flames (only listened to Colony)
Korn
Metallica
Megadeth
Slayer
Mudvayne
RATM
Morbid Angel (only listened to Covenant)

yea. I dont know that many bands. Dont know where to start.

Amon Amarth
Between The Buried and Me
Biohazard
Black Dahlia Murder
Children Of Bodom
Death
Devin Townsend Band
Evergrey
Fates Warning
Iced Earth
Into Eternity
Iron Maiden
Killswitch Engage
Meshuggah
Nevermore
Opeth
Pain Of Salvation
Shadows Fall
Vehemence

You know, real metal :p

And listen to more In Flames but not their newest album
And listen to more Morbid Angel

And if you want more, I left A LOT out that was either Prog Metal or Power Metal or had rougher growling.

Dimmu is alright.

Id say more but im in ohio on my dads extremely uncomfortable laptop and i really cant stand being in one place for too long with this thing.

some of the bands listed are ok and then there are some that i dont really like. (not that that matters). But if i remember correctly Arch Enemy is pretty decent (female lead) if you are into that. I hear some people are into Avenged Seven fold, atreyu, and people like that. Killswitch. Im not too much into them but maybe you could give them a try.

Maybe Marduk or... idk. something. like i said, im not going to go into detail.

Dimmu Borgrir rules

Get some Ministry, Arch Enemy, and some Classic Slayer.

Thats all I need for my head banging needs.

Well I\'ll have to recommend them again:
Strapping Young Lad (City or self-titled albums recommended). If you like Slipknot, you should like these guys. Though, the make the \'knot look like childs play.

Or some other of Devin Townsends projects (Ocean Machine, Devin Townsend Infinity or Terria, Devin Townsend Band - Accelerated Evolution)

Definately Meshuggah, their drummer is a ****ing machine.

You might also like some Amen.

Dont get slipknots newest cd for anyone who is thinking about it.

It honestly basically sucks. SLipknot SHOULD NOT BE ACOUSTIC! lehlg!

I like the acoustic songs. They cant always be hard.

What do the other 6 people do.

Honestly, they should just keep it heavy.

Like James Hetfield said once, when you do only hard songs you\'re left with empty feelings. If Metallica was always hard they wouldn\'t be half as good.

Half as good? How can they be that when they aren\'t good at all?

Not a single thing sucks about Metallica... nothing. They have variety, skill, and lyrics.

Just something different slipknot decided to throw in. This might/might not be their last album so why not do everything. Not like they dont enjoy doing it since they said they have a bunch of acuistic stuff from a while ago (like bother).

I agree that their heavier stuff owns acuistic but they already did a bunch of different stuff on their first album (which probably got them labeled as nu-metal but still my favorite album), heavy on the second, then versatile as hell on the third. To range from The Blister Exists/Three Nil to Circle and to not do it for publicity (or so you hope) is a hell a feat IMO

Okay please don\'t place Metallica on some huge pedestal. They\'re good but they\'re no gods. I think some of their older songs are good but the last few CDs are crap imo... When they first came out, it was more like the instruments were the song with backup vocals, which is very unlikely in music, not too many bands play that way. Most bands now are led by the vocals and probably wouldnt last w/o their lead singer.

They are gods. They\'re just badass in every way. Just because you might not like them much mean they arent legends. I dont like Elvis but hes a legend, and I dont like the stones either. But Metallica is one of the legendary bands.

I guess I am being a little biased, I never was a huge Metallica fan. Blah... lost for words, I lose, heh...

Metallica are gods of the mainstream, but not to most who are past that.

Dimmu Borgir...ehn, I personally hate em.  Cheesey Black Metal, nothing more.

If you wanna try Prog Metal, try Symphony X or Blind Guardian.  Get Of Sin And Shadows by Symphony X and Punishment Divine by Blind Guardian.

Power Metal...well, I love Rhapsody.  Cheesey as all hell, but addictive too.

The hell are you talking about? When Metallica came out every metal band had a singer with long blonde hair and tight clothes.

And you can go **** yourself. You remind me of Debbie Downer from SNL.

What\'s your point, boi? They are as mainstream as Metal can get.. They have always been a mainstream band, despite what some people think and if you look at them now, you see a washed up mainstream band. Fact is, while at one time they provided decent mainstream metal music, now\'a\'days they can\'t even do that.

The vocals should be used as, and considered another instument.  It shouldn\'t be relegated to being a \'backup\', nor should it be the main emphasis (unless it suits such a song). IMO. I\'m not arguing with your post or anything, just chiming in.

And Metallica weren\'t always \'mainstream\'. When they first came out they were the heaviest thing since Sabbath, or Motorhead or what have you. Then Slayer came out, and out \'heavied\' them, so to speak and thus ensued a bit of a battle to be the heaviest for a few albums. It was And Justice for All that the commercialism started to creep in, and Black when they became \'mainstream\'.

I was serious about Rhapsody.

Download, \'Rhapsody - Holy Thunderforce\'

That song gives me orgasms. :shy:

Mainstream or not, they\'re one of the best bands ever, and their sales and hits show it.

Actually Vivi, LIC\'s comparison was pretty accurate.  Say what you will about them, but that\'s honestly how they are viewed amongst true metal heads, right or wrong.

And don\'t use sales to back up how good they are.  Afterall, the Backstreet Boys have had two albums that sold better than any Metalica album.

Yeah, but the Backstreet Boys are mainstream!

Metallica are on the fringe dood!!11
