The US policy on Aids prevention has sparked fresh controversy on the second day of an international summit on the disease in the Thai capital Bangkok.
The Bush administration advocates sexual abstinence as the best way to stop the disease spreading.
Many scientists and activists, however, favour encouraging the use of condoms.

sexual abstinence ?
yeah that will work

I don\'t see what the big deal is...
The only 100% sure-fire way not to get STDs is to not have sex.
I mean wtf do u want the man to do??
-
yes its 100% sure fireway...
but its hardly practical, seeing that the vast majority of cases of STD\'s come from people thinking it won\'t happen to them anyway and not using protection.
In Short Bush should promote the attatude of...
Sexual abstinence is the 100% way of avoiding STD\'s
the other way is using protection !
-
And condoms prevent STD\'s 95% of the time. 5% may not seem bad....but ask the 5% who got them.
Monogamy = it may not be better than a threesome....but yer getting some. :D

Ok but this is really a low blow; you can\'t blame Bush for everything. The article says the Ugandan president is adapting Bush\'s advice:
abstinence and loving relationships in marriage were even more crucial to fighting Aids than condoms.
That sounds right to me. Arguing against that is like saying:
- I like to race.
- Bush\'s repsonse: You\'ll reduce the risk of death if you race only at a track.
- That\'s not good enough. I want to race whenever I want as much as I want and not have any fear of death.
You get the idea.. People can\'t always get what they want, but they can blame Bush for it :p
-
well now that you mention it...at least he\'s not as bad as the Catholic church who are now going round the 3rd world and saying that using condoms will increase you chance of contacting Aid’s.
-
Come on ooseven, next thing you know you will be blaming Bush for solar flares.
-
anying to get that Monkey in Human form out of the White house. ;)
Same go\'s for Blair :D

Hello!!!
The Bible says "no sex"
Therefore Bush says "no sex"
I bet he\'s in Opus Dei
-
yeah, I can see it now, Bush passes new law to put video cameras in people\'s bedrooms to make sure you are practicing abstinence.
-
Wait....what\'s this? Bush is responsible for solar flares?!?!!?! I must spread the word.
-
Honestly, funding sexual education about protection devices is a LOT more productive.
-
^^^Isn\'t the BEST protection device abstinence?

Waste of money. People will do what they want... Condoms aren\'t even a for sure protection from AIDS.

As in theory abstinence is good, in reality, no one ever does it. They preach sexual abstinence in school and religious courses but IMO, it makes kids want to do it more. I say they put more emphasis on teaching kids how to use condoms or go the route they go in England and preach oral sex :p

^^^
I agree with both sides. Abstinence is the ONLY 100% sure fire way. But to say that teenagers will stop having sex is stupid. It\'s irresponsible to say that every teenager will stop having sex because of some program and then the whole world will be better.
