Title: I,Robot
Post by: MPTheory on July 22, 2004, 09:28:08 AM
I saw it opening night.. I didn\'t see a thread for it, so I figured I\'d start one.

Personally, I thought it was better than Spiderman 2.  And I liked SM2.

It was as good as I had anticipated

The movie was OK.  Enjoyable on it\'s own terms.

However, it was a lame imitation of the original Asimov stories it was based on.  Asimov\'s type of storytelling is much too cerebral for a mass market movie, so I guess this was to be expected.

After this film, I am genuinely fearful that someone will one day produce a Foundation movie.

Watch TV. There are trailers all over the place on TV.

I had to sacrifice my TV so that my little sister could have one...and I don\'t watch TV, and never really wanted to.  It can become a habit after a while.

The only problems I have with this movie is...

(a) Issac Isamov would roll over in his grave if he ever saw this movie.

(b) It stole so many parts from other movies (Matrix & Star Wars), as well as the bible.

Spiderman still ranks numero uno on my movies list, I\'m going to see the Bourne Supremacy tonight.

I liked it. It  had enough suspense to keep you interested.
And the idea of having my own flunky for a robot intrigues me.

Well I think spiderman 2 had to much hype coming into it. And while it was good. It did not live up to the hype. Kind of like most movies that have that kind of hype going into them.

Nothing\'s been said about Spielberg directing the film.  He is identified as executive producer.

LaPorte, Nicole.  "D\'WORKS KNOTS BOTS"  Daily Variety 7/23/04.

Having mined green ogres, DreamWorks has its sights on robots in disguise for its next franchise.

The studio is teaming with Paramount and toy company Hasbro to develop a live-action pic based on Transformers, the car-robots that spawned a comicbook series, TV show and animated feature in the \'80s.

Steven Spielberg will exec produce the film, which is aiming for a summer 2006 release. Lorenzo di Bonaventura ("Constantine"), Don Murphy ("The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen") and Tom DeSanto ("X Men") will produce.

Hasbro will work with the production team on all aspects of the film\'s creative development, marketing and merchandising.

Takara, the Japanese company that manufactured the toys upon which Transformers were based, will also be involved in development.

DreamWorks will handle the pic domestically. Paramount will distribute to international markets.

The Transformers are cars, trucks, planes and tanks which, when twisted, turn into giant robots. They are divided into camps of good (the Autobots) and bad (the Decepticons), who fight each other.

The Transformers\' bigscreen journey began last year when Murphy and DeSanto optioned the rights to the toys.

DreamWorks, New Line, New Regency and Paramount (which had initially passed on the project) aggressively pursued a deal. DreamWorks and Par emerged as victors, in part due to Spielberg\'s involvement.

Spielberg and Transformers? Doesnt seem to fit quite right. And to have everything be real and the robots in cg might be somewhat odd.

I cant remember the last good, serious movie i saw with primarily CG characters.

Iffy if you ask me.

Oh and about I Robot:

I havent seen it and i still might but will smith doesnt seem to be interested in doing anything but "will smith" movies. Personally, i think it would be interesting to see what type of job he could have done with the matrix. Not saying that he would be better, but i cant think of too many \'serious\' will smith movies.

I cant believe you guys liked that movie

I think this movie holds the record for the most UNFUNNY jokes ever told in 2 hours.

This movie was garbage.  Better then Spider man 2?  No way.

They spend 75% of the movie has a murder case investigation.  Boring.  During that 75% there is a couple of assisnatio n attempts on will smith.  Boring

And then,  when the robots finally go crazy,  its over in 10 minutes.

How is that entertaining??

I was willing to forgive the movie if it was going tohave a sequel,  but it look like it wont.  Good

Poor screenplay,  poor acting.  Special effects?  who cares

I thought the second renasance animatrix cartoon shorts were a more interesting robot rebellion this this .

So if you want to sit and watch a murder case movie for 1 hour and 40 minutes then watch a so so predictable ending,  which has the robots rebelling for just 10 minutes,  check this movie out.

Thats your Opinion.

IMO, your taste in movies sucks.  And the "attacking of the robots", was more like 30 minutes of the movie.

You probably one of those people that automatically hates a movie because it has Will Smith in it.  (Who isn\'t a bad  actor in the first place)

Go watch Cassablanca or something.

The movie isn\'t simply a murder case though.  Hansel and Gretel!  *(&%^#*%^

It\'s useless trying to explain something like that to you though.  Just stick to what you know and try not to venture to the movie theatre too often.

As for the movie itself, I thought it was decent.  It was a lot better then I expected, but that\'s not saying much as I expected it to really suck hard.  I think they did a really good job building Will Smith\'s character though and I think the action sequences, particularly at the end, were filled with lots of style and finesse.  I love crazy camera techniques!

I also watched Bourne Supremacy on Friday off another pair of free movie passes that were in the Bourne Identity DVD I picked up on Thursday a couple weeks ago.  That movie had a great plot, but man they need to learn how to film an action sequence!  That shaky cam zoomed in garbage just doesn\'t cut it with the technology they have today.  I want clear and detailed, not frantic and disorienting.

^^^The shaky cam was one of my favorite aspects of the action scenes.

To me, it made it seem more realistic.

Exactly. I loved it. The movie was the shit. I wasnt dissapointed. I loved the first one and this one is definately a good sequel. [SP] But why the hell did they have to ****in kill marie . I guess it was one of those things that drove the movie. And the end? It was good but at the same time, odd. I mean after all of that, they made it seem as if there could be a third, which i just cant see. And if it wasnt meant to be that way then im just thinking, what is left for him. His past...uncertain, and after Marie, i dont know what the hell he\'ll do. Like i said. Odd, yet saticefactory [/SP]

I really liked I, Robot, and agree with MPTheory, better than Spiderman 2 IMO (And I too liked SM2).  I, Robot was interesting throughout the entire movie.  I loved the part where

[sp]the two robot transporters blocked Will Smith, and all of those robots started jumping on his car.  It reminded me of a boss battle in a video game. :)
[/sp]

Oh, and I thought the plug for converse shoes was funny. :\\  I don\'t see how people can hate this movie so much...
