Title: Just saw the Village...
Post by: THX on July 31, 2004, 03:05:42 PM
...and rest assured within minutes I was on the internet registering my disgust with the world... :ghey:

Never seen a movie that had the potential to be so cool and give a big letdown towards the end.  Long ass dramatic pauses of people\'s facial expressions are this movie\'s highlight.

If you see it make sure you leave 75% of the way through just so you could think you may have gotten your money\'s worth.  Some will disagree but I stand by my original statement if there are NO explosions or car chases then I immediately nix it off my list.

1.3 out of 17 stars.

Somebody give me a spoiler about the big standard plot twist in the movie.

Do not read unless you wanna f*x up your movie going expurrience:

[sp]the "creatures" were made up by the elders just to frighten younger people to not go to the outside world.  This movie actually takes place in modern times.  Sounds catchy on paper, translates horrible to screen, especially when set up in such a mystical way.[/sp]

I didn\'t care for it.  I thought I had it figured out pretty early on and by the time the movie confirmed it I was bored.

The biggest let down had to be that I didn\'t feel suspense or fear for the villagers at any time...bah!

I also thought the acting and dialouge were kinda poor.

fear the bad color!

I heard about the true nature of the movie a few days ago and I am so glad I saved ten bucks on this one.

I saw the Manchurian Candidate and aside from what is given away in previews, which is basically the first 3/4 of the movie, the last 30 minutes is really well done.

I saw it and enjoyed it for. I like what M. Night Shyamalamalamalamala\'s tried to convey through this movie.

[sp]That in every place people try to go, they will always find misery. Sure this was done before. But yet the movie still kept my interest. There\'s a lot of subtle things that are right there before you to pick out. Such as how the Elders spoke in a modern tone when they were alone. They would use contractions like "Won\'t" and "Isn\'t" yet when around they younger generation, they would switch back to the old English Victorian language of the late 1800\'s.[/sp]

All M. Night\'s movies are clever like that.  I did pick up on that Gman and it got me thinking.  Anyways, the movie rocked completely with the first sceen with the creatures.  But then it was ruined.  Still liked it though, just got mislead and thought i was seeing a different movie.

It was a very, very mediocre movie.

It could have been better without all of the flaws that diluted the base storyline.

a horror joint that was rated pg-13? stay far far away...i didn\'t see it but the previews for it looked good until i saw the pg-13 rating...which boils down to alot of suspense & camera trickery...

i did happen to like the ring tho,..which i recently just seen on cable and was rated pg-13..

I am not a M night fan. He just takes the suspense way too far. He continues to do the same thing with each movie he makes. It\'s like damn guy give it a rest try something different this time around. And I never support his projects at that box office. I knew the movie was going to be stupid from the previews.

To all those who have not figured it out yet, M.Night is a one-trick pony. His stories are never that interesting and the only reason people watch them is so they can get the "twist" ending, the problem is, since \'The Sixth Sense\' his twist endings have been medicore at best.

Summary of his movie\'s.

The Sixth Sense: I hate this movie, but I will admit I never guessed the ending. Still, I think \'The Others\' done it ten times better.

Unbreakable  : Slow, boring and what a piss-poor twist.

Signs: Oh no! Aliens! If these alien\'s are so smart, why did they come to planet that is covered with water? I mean after all, water is their only weakness. I guess they aren\'t so smart after all. Another problem was the unessarcy focus on a priest losing and renewing his faith in God.  Boring..*zzzzz*

I have yet to see \'The Village\', but I don\'t expect to come away happy. I expect to come away bored.

I\'ve always liked his cinematic style. I like the angles he chooses. Not too many cut scenes. He stays with one camera angle longer than most directors.

Or maybe he is sending a message that you need to keep your faith through anything.  Sorry if your an atheist but it does mean something to quite a few of us around the world.

Also, some people do have a phobia of Aliens.

[sp]The movie was just too slow.  I actually liked the ending, pretty much from where the guy got stabbed and on was quite interesting, but it took too much time leading up to that point.  The trailers lead people to believe that it is a big horror movie, but most of the movie was just showing the lifestyle of the people in the village.  This made the plot twist at the end more effective, but made the rest of the movie kind of boring.  The movie started out with these forest creature, "Do not go into the forest" type stuff, then for like 45 minutes the creatures were hardly even mentioned as all sorts of random stuff happened.  Overall it was a great idea, but the execution was flawed.[/sp]

This movie disappointed me to no end.

It was boring, and the "\'surprise ending" didn\'t make up for the hour and a half of crap I had to sit through.

This movie seems like it would be a better book than a movie. I saw the previews when watching Arthur and I thought it would be cool to see. The only thing I hear is bad reviews. Sounds more like a renter to me. I\'ll save my money for Alien vs. Predator and Spiderman 2 (yes, I still have to see it).

Ehn, at least the creatures looked better than the Aliens in Signs.

I thought the movie was awful myself.  [sp]I hated the end.  As surprising as it was, I thought it was just such a let down.  After how the monsters were built up, to have them become nothing in one second flat like that...bleh[/sp]
