It comes out tomorrow, but I wanted to create the thread anyways. I can\'t wait to see it. Anyone else remotely interested in it? It\'s a Michael Mann film so this should be an automatic pre-requisite must-see for a lot of you huge movie nerds on this board [mm, LiC]. I\'ll be sure to clap at all the best parts. ;)

I saw it this morning and I was very impressed by it. I would go as far as to say that it was far better then Spider-Man 2 and I really liked that movie a lot. Micael Mann does it again. If this film was shot in DV like I heard it was, then that is just super impressive.
-
Is it better than Heat. It\'s my favorite Mann film, I love the bank robbery scene. I will go see Collateral this Sunday.
-
I\'d say, if nothing else, this movie had far more tension in it then heat, but as always, the actors and Mann do a great job in both movies building these incredible characters both likeable and charismatic. It\'s really well done. I\'d have to put the two on equal playing fields or give the nod to Heat just for having DeNiro and Pacino in the same movie.

How was Jamiee Foxx in the movie?
-
He was actually pretty damn good. I was surprised by him as he still carries around the stigma of that show he had. If this is what we can expect of him in that new Ray Charles biography titles "Ray," then we should expect that movie to be very well done. Mann says that in this film, he\'s a great actor because he can mimic any style exceptionally well. With all the Ray Charles interviews and performances to go on, he seems perfect for the role.
As for Tom, I think this is one of his best performances ever though next to Born on the 4th of July.

damn.. I\'ll have to go see it now. I wasnt really looking forward to it, but You\'ve sparked up some interest for me.

This was a great film. I have always liked Michael Mann pictures like Manhunter, Heat, and The Insider. The Vincent character was somewhat 2 dimensional, but the Max character (Jamie Foxx) was very interesting. I saw the ending coming almost from the beginning of the story, but there were enough turns thrown in to keep it interesting. Mark Ruffalo as the LAPD cop was awesome as always. I\'m glad the star power didn\'t overwhelm this story like it did in Heat. Mann didn\'t use his usual director of photography (Dante Spinotti) for this one, but the two credited DPs did a fantastic job.
I might also mention that there are few directors who have been able to capture Los Angeles realistically, the way it looks to me. I always thought foreigners such as Wim Wenders were better than american directors in that regard, but William Friedkin and Michael Mann have changed my mind. There were so many shots of street corners I walk past every day. The driving sequence that ends with Max flipping his cab was perfectly stitched together. Those streets really do connect, and all the turns were correct. It\'s pretty weird when you see your real world turned into a movie. :)

I loved the movie.. Just saw it last night. Great film.
-
:) Glad to hear that.
-
I really liked it - but I have some issues.
(1) The cop / FBI plot was tacked on and added lenght that was not needed.
(2) I think it would of worked better if he had not known the girl. If he had just had enough and wanted to stand up for what was right. That would be the best motivation, not the fact that he was attracted to her.
Otherwise great film - well, it also had to much music, but oh well.

I loved it. Tom Cruise as a baddie was pretty good. In fact, I couldn\'t like him at all coz he was so freakin\' cold hearted. However, I still had that level of respect for such a proficient killer. Damn my evil ways!
I did love how the two thugs tried to mug Tom in the alley. You could see how those petty thieves were gonna end up when confronted by a cold hearted killer. What? It took like 3 seconds for them to get owned?

Warning in-dept review, read at own risk.
Better then I expected.
It was shot in DV? Ah, that explains what I call.. Hallmark effects. It looks cheap somehow.
-
I loved this movie. Jamie foxx does not get the credit he deserves. The guy has the range to play other roles. This one of the best roles I have see cruise at. I think this is one of his best films he has done. I would go pay to see this all over again. I loved it.
-
Nah, it wasn\'t shot in DV. It was actually shot entirely in HD. I couldn\'t believe it myself.
-
Very good movie. Solid A in my books. Excellent script writing but a predictable ending.
-
resurrected thread I know :P
but it came out on video this tuesday and I picked it up asap, and I luv it.
great story, and great action.
DVD comes with a disc 2 of special features, but you can go through all of them in about an hour.
loved how he took out the minor league thugs in like 0.76 seconds and also the way he grabs Daniels head gently and lays it on the table.
Fav scene tho is seeing the coyotes going thru downtown LA qued to Shadow On The Sun by Audioslave (and i\'m not even a big audioslave but I think the song worked great here)
Theres something very cool at watching someone do what they do and do it good, even if it is killing people.
The whole scene at fever was great. I got chills watching him push his way thru the crowd in a messy shove but at the same time totally in control and take out the bouncers hand to hand.
anyways, to those that don\'t already know to...pick it up!!
-
Yeah, I liked it as well. Michael Mann rocks, and both Tom Cruise and Foxx were great.
The movie was shot in HD, except for certain scenes (like the club scene, which was shot on film).
-
It was a superb flim.
Loved the HD shots that maked all the outside night shots look moody :D.
