Has anyone installed SP2 for Windows XP yet? Any problems?
-
Downloading now.
-
Same here - I dare you to install it first! ;)
-
What are the updates? Anything good besides behind the scenes security crap?
-
Just installed it. Running it now. New firewall updates and it integrates your antivirus stuff as well. Nothing really big honestly.
-
Heard it was only 278 megs. Just more network security and pop-up blocking in IE :ghey:
-
I jumped off the IE bandwagon alittle while ago. I use MoZilla right now but it\'s not the greatest. The image quality is different and it loads slightly slower.
-
obviously you are talking about the beta.......... SP2 hasnt popped up yet on my windows update thingie.

Its a network based service pack. But i couldn\'t imagine the winupdate version being much different.
-
only 278 megs?...
*kicks 56k modem in the nads* :(
-
I think i\'ll wait for the individual computer version to be realeased any day now
-
I have it on both computers at home and have 0 problems. The pop up blocker on IE is handy... as for the other stuff - wait and see I guess.
-
I don\'t use IE so no biggie there, firefox already has a built in pop up blocker. And I hardly get ANY spyware when I run my adaware and spy-bot, unlike using IE.
-
Yeah I use Firefox, but some pages don\'t like the browser. I don\'t think there is any major need to install it immediately. I just had nothing better to do. ;)
-
IE is behind the times. No Tabs? No sell!
-
Been using firefox quite a bit and there are definitely sites that need work for it. USPS.com is the main one for me. Ah well, thank the maker for the "view this page in IE" extension.
-
what about USPS.com dosen\'t work for you? It\'s always worked fine for me
-
The java at the end when you go to purchase and print your labels. For some reason, it locks my browser whereas with IE, it does not. Reinstalling java specifically for FF had no effect.
-
The browser has major issues with java. The main problem is when u already have msjava installed and you also install sun java. Only true solution is to remove msjava (which is a bytch to do properly) then install sun java.
-
Popup Blocker? Sweet.
Even though I’m a Opera fanwhore I could use a blocker for IE (some sites refuse to run on Opera).. PopUpCop is complaining about registration and I’m too lazy to get it registered. ;)
I’m waiting one more week before I grab SP2. I want to find out what problems it causes first. ;)

Only prob i had is with the sercurity Center crap not leaving my sys tray even when I everything is disabled.. Easy to fix though.
Also was freezing my system randomly. Had to do a fresh install of Xp then add the sp2 rather then add it over the Sp1a. Fixed the problem and it has been running sweat ever sense.
-
Lol, I just saw ppl who got their 3DMark03 score halved by \'just\' having installed SP2. What a bummer !

Thanks for the info.
Damn, I would not want to reinstall XP again (this install is just a few months old). Dont have the time/energy right now.
I\'ll wait for a while.

Damn.

Just a heads up... there seems to be a problem with people using SP2 and connections to P2P networks:
"SP2 can cause you some headaches if you use many P2P connections or P2P fileshare programs. SP2 enforces the EULA restriction of 10 concurrent incomming TCP connections for Pro, and 5 for Home. Royally screws BitTorrent sharing. There is rumor of a patch for the TCP stack to remove the restriction, but I haven\'t looked into it yet."

damn SP2. While im glad i havent upgraded and messed my other things up, i do wish to some degree that i did have it.
-
I\'ve already got that limit patch.. Used and abused ;)
-
Interesting about the bittorrent stuff. I don\'t know if it\'s really true though. Yesterday I downloaded an anime episode and did it at max download speed via bittorrent without any problems. Odd...
-
I have been using BT without any problems.
-
download speeds and peers/seeds are 2 different things.
You can\'t connect to any more then 10 people per port. Doesn\'t matter what speed you download at.
-
per port? that\'s no big deal. Bittorrent requires the use of several ports from my experience. Just use good ol port triggering through my router.
-
^^^ What he said - my router handles all of that.
-
If thats the case then i guess i might make the upgrade.
And souly, whats this limit patch you speak of?
-
whats the point in the updgrade anyway? like is the new security stuff even worth risking not being able to use bittorrent?
I dont use the XP firewall anyway
-
From my experience, bittorrent uses 1 port between a range that you\'ve opened on your router. It tries to bind a port untill it finds one it can use, Not multiple ports at the same time... Infact i\'m pretty sure thats how it works.
-
Using BT right now - no problems what so ever.
-
I\'ve now removed SP2, too many bugs for my likes. It started to randomly freeze my machine again aswell as other programs starting to play up.
Thought it may have been bad ram, done a 5 hour memory test. (its overkill) and not one problem.. stupid sp2. Don\'t bother with it, wack in sp1a, windows update it and you\'ll have a machine thats more likely safer and bug free then sp2.
-
how do i know if a i have 1a and if i dont where do get it?
-
i wouldn\'t have a clue what service pack u have.

-
ok well with all the confusion i just say screw sp2. heh. Ill manage.
-
I\'ve got it and have absolutely no problems
-
^^ What he said
