-
damn the server for that Board is damn ass slow I got bored and left im sure the page would still be loading
-
Wow, a feature-rich game turned feature-less is still being gaga\'ed over just for its gold announcement?
-
Bleh, lost interest in this game when it went all demonic. I was liking the look of it when the idea was you could go in a village and throw rocks on people\'s doors and kill anyone you want.
Now, just bleh too little too late.

IGN Full Review (http://xbox.ign.com/articles/542/542632p1.html)
Presentation
A true storybook game, the fresco-painting cut-scenes are a perfect idea and the controls are very intuitive. Albion is a very dense world that has a rich history.
9.0 Graphics
Beautiful environments and great details on your character. The bloom lighting is a nice touch of the fantastic and the magic looks great. Occasional framerate drops and repetitive NPC skins hurt.
9.0 Sound
Beautiful opening score from Danny Elfman and plenty of great voice dialogue. Some of the sounds get repetitive and I wish a few of the creatures sounded a bit more varied.
9.0 Gameplay
It\'s lost a lot of what would have made it revolutionary, but the combat is good and the game is still a lot of fun. Some of those NPC reactions are priceless. Great humor.
10.0 Lasting Appeal
Sure, the main adventure is short for an RPG, but there\'s reason enough to play again. Plus, the world is dense with secrets and fun stuff. It\'s great to just fool around for a while.
9.3 OVERALL:
(out of 10 / not an average)
TXB Full Review (http://reviews.teamxbox.com/xbox/775/Fable/p1/#top)
The real-time combat system is nearly flawless, and the approach to action RPGs is truly unique. Fable makes you feel part of its world like no other game. The decision/consequence system works well, but isn’t nearly as in-depth as promised. The story isn’t very exciting and many gamers won’t have much interest in playing on after completing the quests. 9.0
The best looking RPG on any console. Expansive environments, highly detailed characters, and great use of particle and lighting effects. The NPC and enemy variation is a bit thin, but the changes in your hero make up for it. The framerate does take a hit from time to time. 9.5
The main theme is one of Elfman’s best pieces and sets the tone for the entire game. The dynamic soundtrack does a good job of setting up situations you uncover. The voice acting is top notch, though many of the characters use the same voice. 9.1
The promises of 40-50 hours of gameplay are not to be. Even gamers who take their time and complete every single quest and uncover most secrets can realistically expect a 20-25 hour game. Being that no additional quests are given after completing the story quests, this hurts the replayability. Everyone should play through the game at least twice; the experience is that good. 8.4
Fable will change how RPGs are designed and played forever. Some of the expectations may have been a bit too lofty and the game has been scaled back a bit. Still, Fable ties everything together (real-time combat, expression system, economy system, story) better than any other action RPG before it. 9.3
Overall 9.1

What does it mean when a game goes gold?
mean that the final save from development data is sent to production.
Production dept will then produce copy of the Gold (master!)
usually takes from 14 to 30 days from gold to store
-
If I can still become an evil lord, then sign me up.
-
What does it mean when a title "goes gold"
-
Hey, I got the free dvd when I reserved it, and the game looks hot. Somehow though, I have this feeling the game will dissapoint. :(

Yeah, no joke. I mean, with the great reviews it is getting, it\'s sure to be a dissapointment...
I am bummed that I can\'t kill kids in it tho,,,\'

In fairness.. the reviews do admit that a LOT has been left out of the game. And not only that, but some of them are features which the developers never even thought to tell anyone that they omitted them..
Not competing against other heroes was one of the cooler sounding gimmicks that the game had going for it.
Oh, and LICky, I\'m sure (http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/561545.asp?q=Grand%20Theft%20Auto) you\'ve never (http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/561494.asp?q=Burnout%202) been disappointed (http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/472132.asp) by a game (http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/469050.asp) that has gotten extremely (http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/197470.asp) high reviews (http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/198862.asp), eh (http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/447244.asp?q=Metroid%20Prime)?
I\'m just disappointed that it promised us the ability to do anything, yet I\'m pretty damn sure that if I wanted to, I would NOT be able to build myself (http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/518042.asp?q=Tekken%204) a hospital for rape victims and spend countless hours baking them cookies with my own customized mittons which if my cookies were baked well enough other hospital staff would start copying my mitten style and compete against me in the annual Rape n\' Bake (http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/197343.asp?q=Final%20Fantasy) off competition held in the Kurt Cobain Casualty ward whilst jumping on a pogo stick that had a vaseline encrusted dildo glued to the end of it which would penetrate and stimulate while getting me to where I want to go in style, which would likely be the Michael Bolton (http://www.michaelbolton.com/) concert I managed to talk him into holding.
-
Wait, I haven\'t heard anything. I\'m going purely on instinct. I did pre-order it, I do expect a lot, I am excited, but when it adds up, I haven\'t found a game that truly satisfies all my needs... and I have a feeling Fable will be no exception.
GTA was the last game that I really feel I got my bang for my buck. This does exclude sports games.
-
Except the fact that GTA was one of the worst games in recent memory.
-
Oh, sure, just ignore me like I\'m nothing.

Give me a break. GTA had one of the worst targeting systems, a terrible driving engine and boring missions. Exactly what was so great about that game? Nothing. Nada. Zippo. The only reason people flocked to it was because of the violence and sex - the one thing that Rockstar has based all it\'s games off of.

Not true. I like plenty of 3D games.
Go away.
-
Yeah yeah there are millions of gamers outhere that LOOOVE the game and because L-I-C the one man army said its sh!t then everyone else is wrong becuase they are outnumbered. :p

People flocked to the game because it was FUN. You know...they ENJOYED playing it. A game can have a perfect targetting system and excellent driving controls but that doesn\'t matter if the game is not fun.
God forbid a game is not a top down space shooter with ninjas and batman. ;)

Of course 2-D games are better than 3-D...
Anyone who thinks otherwise doesn\'t know what great gaming was...

Actually its lame to compare the two of them

People may of enjoyed the game. That is not my argument. My point is the game is crap. People enjoyed it and flocked to it due to the violence, not due to actual techincal acheivements done by the game. How hard is that to understand? It\'s \'Mortal Kombat\' all over. An inferior game was flocked to due to violence.
Of course 2-D games are better than 3-D...

Exactly. The 3D realm is great for certain things, but the industry has this idea that the two cannot live together and it is wrong. They both have their own purposes, but due to Sony and the rest of the industry pushing the 3D wave, most people will just bow down and accept 3D as the great thing - even with it\'s problems.
-
LIC, stop stating your opinions for facts. People "flocked" to GTA because of how open and non linear the game was. The game is completely boring if you just go around shooting people, if you play it the proper way (wonder if u ever did) then the game is very fun and has lots of reply value. You want mindless violence, thats what manhunts for. ;)

Yes, I have and I own GTA:VC. The game still sucks. Why? Because it has one of the most unpolished shooting and driving engines in any game. How is that fun? It isn\'t.

Nice screencapture from \'This Little Piggy\'..
"Am I blue....Am I blue...?"
Great episode.
Oh and most reviews agree with me on the targeting system flaws..
Next..
;)
-
^^^and then the same reviews give the game high scores.
Previous!!!!
-
So, they say the game is still great even with the flaws.
most people don\'t even care anyway because they can play the games and don\'t suck at it
next ;)
might wanna remove that pole there....

They both have their own purposes, but due to Sony and the rest of the industry pushing the 3D wave, most people will just bow down and accept 3D as the great thing - even with it\'s problems. [/B]
Whats the point here? That 2D are better than 3D or that the industry has the idea that the two cant live together?Decide

LIC\'s turn ;)

I think I missed my turn so I\'m going to step away now...
Hmm, let me start another debate. Did anyone else think that Halo was basically like every other shooter, and the single player mode was very repetitive? Good game, but I don\'t think it deserved the scores it got.

How many games can you name that were better in 3-D than 2-D?
-
Super Mario 64 > all 2d marios
Metal Gear Series
Final Fantasy 7-10
Doom
-
And Outrun sucks compared to Burnout3 which is hands down the most addictive Arcade racer to date. And before you say "its not even out yet" I playied a demo of Burnout3 which kicks ASS

This is just plain stupid. I know that it\'s just your opinion and whatnot, but wtf, Super Mario World? Yoshi\'s Story? You think SM64 is better then either of those? To think that, you must be a drug addict.
Final Fantasy 7-10
Please. 8, 9, and 10 were all atrocious. 7 was only good because it stole so MUCH from 6.

actually, it means it\'s ready to go to duplication

I can see 8 being bad, but 9 and especially 10 kicked ass. The voices rule, brings you into the story better.

I don\'t like FFX story though. Its a good story, but not a "great story."
FFX and FF8 character designs are "ghey.":ghey:
-
9 didn\'t have anything memorable about it except for the segment dealing with Vivi and his past and his people. Everything else was laughable drivel. I couldn\'t respect a single character in that game. Garnet, Zidane, Kuja... All worthless. X is about the same in that regard. I liked Rinoa and Squall\'s story, but it fell apart at the end when it turned Edea away from being the chief antagonist and introduced miscellaneous ultimate evil no. 283467236725. 7, as I said, stole so much from 6 that to give it credit for anything is really laughable. I thought 7 was totaly awesome, one of my favorite FF games of all time, but I know why it\'s one of my favorites and it\'s because 6 was as well and 7 is 6 with much less and the compromise of 3D.
-
i\'am so back and forth on the purchasing of 10 but i think i will just wait and purchase 12...i never really thought about 10-2 as i heard it was basically barbie dress up time! ginks kinda liked it tho..i just feel square needs to be more creative in the character design dept..
all of their main characters since 7 look the same...even the main character in 12 has blond hair just like tidus in 10... sheeit and i loved barret in prt 7..why don\'t they make any real interesting characters anymore?...
-
Yeah. Barret and Red XIII were the best chars.

I believe one of the reasons why dissapointment is higher compared to back then is because games were more simplistic than they are now.And thats how we viewed them.As simple games on which creativity reached as much as simple technology allowed. And when expectations were exceeded its was like WOW. Thats what made gaming so much fan back then.We were easier satisfied.
Now we have great expecations all the time. And costs are higher. Its either create a high cost game that is as evolutionary as the hardware is and we miss the gameplay of the good old days or a game that plays like an old game only with 3D graphics and we are again not satisfied becuase it offers nothing new.
Then from the developer\'s view again things arent better either. Its either spend money and risk for something new and complicated or spend less mony and time for a game that offers a small evolution of previous gameplay ideas.
On one hand we want realistic physics, superb realistic graphics, superb lighting effects, and animation that dont have necessarily much to do with gameplay and at the same time we want superb gameplay.
These were nothing the gamer was interested about in the past and neither did the developer have to spend time on it.It was just creating gameplay.
Its liek a double edged sword. We were satisfied with gameplay back then easier but we didnt enjoy aesthetics, now we enjoy aesthetics but we are less satisfied with gameplay.
But the again if we dot get enough in the aesthetics department we are dissapointment. We want that powerful technology utilised.
At the end I dont know if we lose or gain

Word. FFX was a great game.
-
This is all bullshit:
- L-I-C, I think you proved my point that just because something recieves tremendous reviews doesn\'t mean it won\'t disappoint some people. Particularly in a game that promised so much, but has ommitted many of the things that people were looking forward to. I mean, most of your aging in chapters? Puh..
- GTA: VC had many good elements to it. However, some of, and probably the best were elements that don\'t make it a great game, but really enriches the experience. The radio stations and the atmosphere. The targetting system and driving system are in many ways a hindrance to the games fun, and the missions are usually crappy and are just ways to put you in a situation where the game as an enjoyable experience really excels - escaping from high wanted levels! Also the feeling of exploring a real city, driving and doing whatever you want are pretty ok I guess.
- Final Fantasy 7 didn\'t necessarily \'steal\' anything from 6, but they are definately the two most similar games in the series. All the way down to the main villain killing off an entire race (bar one, I believe - Very Hitlerish - and I\'m claiming Jenova to be the main villain of FF7). However, I think 7\'s story was far more rich. The characters were more in-depth. 6 tried to not have a main character and have just as much depth to all of them but it failed, quite miserably. With 2 main characters (one before, one after theevent, and some side characters that really don\'t have much story at all. 7 however, even the optional characters had awesome stories that the majority of people would never even discover. Some parts of 6 seem kind of.. corny? Might be the word. This may be more due to the fact that 7\'s atmosphere seemed to be more adult oriented, which ties in with the progression to 3D, IMO.
- Saying 7 was the same but much less I think would be incorrect, but that\'s just my opinion, it\'s just that their focusses (?) were directed differently.
- The voices don\'t necessarily add to the game, particularly when some of the voices are quite annoying. If you\'re going to put voices in make sure your main characters voice isn\'t too high pitched, and make sure he doesn\'t speak to quickly. Also make sure that the main female character doesn\'t speak as slowly as Kimarhi.. because she has so much more to say and it can get quite boring.
- I thought 9 was a great game, Vivi\'s story was definately the highlight though, but I found Zidane and Dagger\'s story to be quite enjoyable. I actually found it\'s more lighthearted nature to make for a much more enjoyable story than Rinoa and Squalls Dawson\'s Creek style drama.
- I didn\'t care for X-2 much at all, in case anyone was wondering.
- 3D has so much more potential for games which is why games have generally progressed that way. The problem arrises when developers don\'t take proper care when developing a 3D game to really take advantage of everything it offers. Hell, considering most games are STILL having camera issues.. how many years has it been since polygons became the norm? I\'d say the bigger hindrance of gaming would be the pandering to the masses, the gimmickly violent games, and EA style "don\'t innovate or be risky or it\'ll end up like The Mark of Kri" or some shit.
I\'d keep going but now I\'m running late for work. Thanks, assholes.
-
I dont know about you.But despite calling us assholes he really brought up some good arguements and as such gets more credit than L-I-C :p

I can imagine someone is going to say,

Now, name the games that were better in 2-D than 3-D...

It\'s the most discussion this section has had in years..
As far as really well done 2D to 3D conversions go, it\'s hard to say what the best would be.
Sonic Adventure really captured the speed and thrills that made the original games so great without succumbing to the vices of so many other 3D platformers. It was 2D sonic in the third dimension with all the spped boosts and hidden areas. Of course Sonic was doing 3D style gameplay for years.
And let\'s not forget Flicky\'s Island! ;)
And as much as some people would disagree, I think Metroid Prime is another perfect example of 2D turned 3D. But unlike Sonic, it didn\'t just capture the essence of the originals and change it into 3D, it upgraded it and took full advantage of technological advances.
Bleh, nobody cares so I\'ll just stop. :)
-
I wonder how good convertions from 3D to 2D would have been btw.Its stupid to compare the two. They offer two different worlds of gameplay.
2D from 3D dont seem as good usually because the gameplay we knew, were used to and loved the 2D for is usually altered. Not because it lacks or anything. The same would have been if they made 3D to 2D.2D would have sucked compared to the 3D.
So I ask again why compare? This arguement about 2D versions being better than their 3D versions its plain stupid and idiotic.
-
Bobo is right - the only thing GTA delivered on was atmosphere, but that is enough to make a good game.
And anyone who thinks that Mario 64 ( a fantastic game) was better than say Mario 3 or Yoshi\'s Island , is a damn fool.

just j/k buddy

Back to Fable for a sec, like mm said, going gold means the game is completed as far as the development process goes. That\'s why it\'s on a recordable disc and not the final thing in that picture.
Now that it\'s gold, production of the game discs and cases will begin and finally it will ship and be ready for retail the next day.
Mortal Kombat was another one that blew it in 3D. Although, it was dying before then.
Tetris sucked in 3D, too. Remember that? Heh, and Pac Man now that I\'m thinking about it.
Wrestling games were a nice switch to 3D. Racing games could kind of go either way.

the answer to "what gold mean" was answered already on the 1st page ! people should read thread hehe.
I dont own an x-box, so i cant comment on Fable. I am happy that it get good score, ppl that wait for it will probably enjoy it.

me too!

Eh, I remember liking Tetrisphere but I love the original, especially the NES version, way better. But I was thinking of that 3D Tetris they made where the blocks fell back into the screen. God that was horrendous. It was an old computer game I think.
Tetrisphere was neat, but I only ever rented it so I really don\'t remember how addictive it was.
