Anyone else catch it? I thought the speech was incredible. Got me pumped :) For those who missed it, here is a paraphrased version that came up 5 mins after he finished.

I enjoyed it. I liked the terrorism is worse than communism part. Excellent speech - too bad some psycho bitch tried to ruin it by yelling at Cheney at the end of Arnie\'s speech.
-
Were any of these in there:
"If it bleeds we can kill it."
"YOU ARE MINE NOW, YOU BELONG TO ME!"
"Talk to the hand."
Sorry for getting teh funny, it\'s late I\'ll watch later, I promise!
-
It was pathetic. He is terrible at giving speeches, it seems so very forced.
-
Watched it this morning...
Haven\'t laughed that much in a LONG while ...
Oh wait he was being serious about what he said ? ;)

Sharpton is an idiot - and so are you my friend. Arnie gave a very inspirational speech especially since he is an immigrant and has risen to be the govenor of California. What did Sharpton exactly say again? Something about not receiving his mule and 40 acres? At least Arnie whose native language isn\'t English can use it correctly unlike the ebonics challenged Sharpton.

ooseven when was the last time your "green" party won anything important? I can\'t believe being as old as you are you still haven\'t realized that the Labor and the Torries will always control UK politics. The votes you cast are pretty much a waste - why even go to the polls? It took 24 years and they finally received an all time high of 6.9% in 2003, which is nothing. Their seven seats is a joke in a 129 seat parliament.
The fact is the RNC has more energy and enthusiasm than the DNC. The DNC made the mistake of following a far left platform as opposed the RNC\'s more mainstream platform. Having speakers like Sharpton only made the DNC more unbearable to watch. Don\'t believe me? Kerry received virtually no post convention bounce.

typical giga..you take what sharpton said in his speech and completely turn it around..regardless of sharpton\'s past, that night when he gave that speech it was very well written...and lets get it straight, i like arnie and all and he gave decent speech,..but this cat was already a millionare when he went for the govenor spot..so don\'t make it seem like he bit and clawed his way to be govenor...we all know that if you basically have millions in your account,..anybody can run for govenor...prez too for that matter...

He came to this country with nothing and no not anyone can run for the President - Arnie can\'t he wasn\'t born here.
Sharpton\'s speech well written?
Like I said the usual suspects - clips, BS, Nicon and Quddus.
You will have to forgive my zealot behavior - it is the RNC after all and I am all pumped up! ;) Seriously, no poor person will ever win a major race - you know this clips. It takes money to win elections and I couldn\'t do it - just as most in the this country couldn\'t. I respect Arnie for coming over here learning the language, starring in a few softcore pr0n movies, getting his big break with Conan the Barbarian and eventually becoming governor.

heh heh this post actually made me chuckle..ok giga i will forgive you zealot behavior ...that said tho you knew what i meant about having money & running for gov/prez thing...and i feel it\'s just a difference of opinion when it comes to the speeches,..tho i feel it\'s more favortism on your part when it comes to the republicans...i feel that both speeches were well written and one was not better than the other...
i did hate rudy\'s speech tho  he\'s so far up bushes ass,..he makes bush look pregnant.."thank god president bush was prez on 911" "rolleyes: that just made me want to puke...
just had to add..it\'s unfortunate that only the rich get to become prez..why not let the common joe or average day to day worker run for prez? these are real people and such are those that are more grounded in reality...do you really think rich folks has our best interest in mind?...nope..i REALLY just thought about that when you stated that only the rich can run for prez...
-
The reason I really like Arnies speech is because it wasn\'t focusing on race - it was focusing on the opportunities in America for Americans and how great it is to be a citizen in this country regardless of whether you were born here or immigrated here.
His speech was uniting, not dividing - which I perceived Sharpton\'s to be. I have been consistent in that view since we started discussing Sharpton\'s speech.
As for tonights Cheney speech - I think I am going to pass. He is pretty dull and I am not a big fan of his.
-
Saw Cheney\'s speech durin\' break at work. It was so boring, it inspired me to cut my break short and go back to work.
-
From the Daily Show:
Arnold: To those critics who are so pessimistic about our economy, I say: "Don\'t be economic girlie men!"
Jon Stewart: Yes, to those 1.5 million people who are now below the poverty level, Arnold\'s message is clear. "SUCK IT UP, FAGGOTS"

Out of intrest i was watching the rerun of Arnols speech...amoung the others already made... (Dicks iclucded)
and have to say....
Have the Republicans presented any REAL policys other than to continue the fight on global terrorsism (which is a NO BRAINER anyway) ?
Giag...Titan.....Ace can you guys point out at least 3 US domestic policys that have been made during the confrence ?
-
Meh, the RNC is so much more entertaining than the Democrat one. Sharpton...and whoever else spoke there were boring(can\'t even remember their names). Clarke, Rudy, and Arnold on the other hand were all pretty interesting. They almost make me forget how incompetent their leader is.
-
The domestic agenga will come tonight ooseven, when Bush lays out his plans for the next 4 years. Education has already been brought up - though the platform is focusing on national security. Also, for those who don\'t know - the unemployment rate is exactly the same as it was during Clinton\'s reelection. This whole hysteria over the economy is being falsely created to divert attention away from Kerry\'s weakness - national security.
I really liked "Give em hell" Zell Miller\'s fire and brimstone speech last night - maybe that is because I lived in Georgia when he was Governor. Then again I liked his speech back in 1992 for Clinton. Cheney had one or two bright moments, but he is a pretty dull speaker. I also think he had very valid point in that "his party" is not the same party that is was 12 years ago. It really is a shame the Kerry is the best the Democrats have - as even I would vote for a moderate Democrat with a backbone, unfortunately Kerry and his what\'s that kids name? Oh yeah Edwards don\'t have one. BTW does anyone pay attention to anything Edwards says? I almost feel that when Bush/Cheney and Kerry/Edwards are trading barbs - its like "be quiet and let the adults talk sort of thing."
I thought the RNC did a great job in pointing out the differences between GWB and Kerry. One of Cheney\'s best lines of the night was "Senator Kerry says he sees two Americas. It makes the whole thing mutual. America sees two John Kerrys."
The more this race goes on the more I see Bush winning it. Depending on tonights speech I think Bush could come out this convention with a sizable lead.
TITAN CLEAN OUT YOUR INBOX.

Miller did deliver a great speech. The best part was our army armed with spitballs.

Again, it is also worth noting that Clinton inherited an extremely large unemployment rate that was lowered dramatically during his first term (and even more so during his second). Comparing the two is like saying that a launching rocket and a crashing plane are similar due to their being at the same height at one point in time.
Although to be fair the unemployment rate has seen a nice drop since last year. Whether this is due to more jobs being created or less people being eligible for "unemployment" is arguable.

So you are saying he inherited the unemployment rate from himself. If he did such a great job with the economy why is that Bush inherited Clinton\'s failing economy when he took office?
The truth is we are no worse off now than were during the Clinton administration, but that is really a moot point as the economy is only slightly, if at all effected by the actions of the President.
And by the way BS, stop being a "gurlie man". ;)

Hooray for Cheney and his lesbian daughter!!
Arnold couldn\'t have sounded more mature...
And Bush\'s speech...Nice way to tie on 9/11 to Iraq there...
Restraining federal spending huh...A little too late no?
The dude was cocky as hell. I would be too if I had somebody write speeches to make me appear as something I\'m not.
I had to watch the RNC for school. My damn teacher made me. I have to write notes about it. And I hate writing down about idiots, hypocrites and liars.
-
Bush\'s speech started slow but he ended strong.
When he got to the point where he joked about his flaws and talked about personal experiences with families of soldiers who were KIA I was a lot more into his speech. The personal aspect really overshadowed his deliverance (which IMO was a good thing).

I don\'t think you saw what I was getting at...
1. Who in the hell schedules a National Convention right when football season\'s starting and there are 3 different games on TV on a Thursday Night?
2. I avoided it simply because I didn\'t want to listen to it. I knew I\'d come here and see all of the relative conservatives on the board come out and talk about how great "So and So Speaker" was despite the fact that, well, they sucked. It happened during the DNC, only vice versa. Apparently overusing the phrase "Girlie Men" automatically makes for a brilliant speech.
I also don\'t listen because I know half of the stuff that Bush is talking about quite simply isn\'t true. He\'s had a nice history of saying things and, well, doing the exact opposite, and that grates on my nerves. His "Brilliant" job on medicare doesn\'t do SHIT for Senior Citizens, he keeps touting the economy which to this day is still in relative shambles, and have yet to see ANY improvement. Of course, there\'s other stuff, like losing jobs to other countries and claiming that he\'s "creating jobs". Yeah, right.
I could bring up the entire "gong to war for no true reason" thing, but that\'s already been beaten like a dead horse. Remember, he\'s "A Uniter, not a Divider." Man, haven\'t heard that line in a while. Was happy to hear Bush\'s other catch-phrase of being a "Passionate Conservative." That\'s my favorite.
See Yuz.

How about Kerry\'s midnight news conference? I think a more approriate name for it would have been Kerry\'s midnight "damage control". The dems are going nuts after what was overall a fantastic convention by the GOP. The protests didn\'t work, the GOP came across as moderate, Kerry\'s weaknesses were exposed and Bush laid out a good blueprint for domestic policy for his next term.
Sorry Mystiq, but once again you are wrong and are showing your ignorance. Bush came across as very strong and sincere - he even highlighted his own short comings which I found lightened the mood of the speech. Great convention - the best I have seen in quite a while from either side. End of story.

The President addressing the nation > preseason football
Your priorities show your true colors. If you were even vaguely interested in what is best for this country you wouldn\'t even be whining about the RNC ending the same night football starts. I suppose it is for the best that you are pro Kerry as if there was some football related activity on election day we all know where you would be.
You don\'t even want to hear issues, but would rather stay uninformed. The economy in shambles - I guess you didn\'t see todays headlines have you? 144,000 jobs added in August.

Bush seemed like he was about to cry when he was talking about the families praying for HIM after losing family members. He came across VERY well in his speech. I would not be surprised in the least if that speech brought a ton of swing votes into the GOP camp.
My only problem is how he talked about implementing all of these new financial benefits and reforms. Why didn\'t he do this during his first term?
If you think about it, I am almost the opposite of Giga in every single way and I was watching Bush close out his speech like "wow, he did his thing". If that is how a progressive like myself looked at it, imagine how some independant voters took it. I expect Bush to get a nice jump in the polls.
Kerry better get on damage control QUICK.
-
Very true BS. I think the reason he didn\'t do any of these things during his first term was because of 9/11. It isn\'t an excuse, but rather the reality of the matter. 9/11 and terrorism has diverted alot of time and resources away from his domestic agenda.
However, he did accomplish some of his major domestic policies that get little attention. Home ownership as at an all time high and the Bush adminstration has spent the most of any administration on education. The problem with the latter is that the money is not reaching the schools - whether it is due to corrupt individuals or redtape I don\'t know, but you really can\'t blame Bush for that problem as it seems to be happening on a state and local level.
Personally I liked how this convention didn\'t really focus on religion. Issues like abortion were vaguely addressed, but for the most part this definitely wasn\'t a "Christian Coalition" agenda.
Also 2008 is going to be very interesting if Bush wins. Maybe the DNC will realize like the RNC did before this convention that moderation is what America wants. I believe most Republicans and Democrats don\'t want radicals dictating their party\'s platforms.

Actually, that\'s kind of what I was going for. I\'m not saying I don\'t care, I\'m saying it\'s the same rhetoric I\'ve heard for the past 3 years, know what I\'m saying? Every time Bush makes a speech, it\'s the same thing. I don\'t think it\'s just Bush, I think it\'s Presidents in general. I watched the DNC, and that put me to sleep.
It\'s just a show. Both Conventions are a show to present what one party has over the other, and personally, I just wasn\'t into it this week. That, and I didn\'t want to hear Arnold Schwartzenegger make a speech about how all Democrats are "Girlie Men", while the conservatives on the board call it a great speech. C\'mon.
144,000 jobs in August? That\'s nice. How many did we \'add\' combined in every month before August? I\'d like a number. You\'re good at presenting numbers, and I want to see some. Yes, I\'m aware of the issues, and I\'m aware of where they both stand. I just didn\'t want to hear it again -- Republicans bashing Kerry, Kerry flip-flopping on the issues, Democrats having no stance on anything, it\'s all there. Personally I\'m bored with it, and Election Day can\'t come soon enough.
See Yuz.

I can respect that - hell sometimes I get tired of hearing them go at it, but I think this election is much different than any other election I have seen. We are at war with an unorganized enemy and that enemy has the power attack us without us even seeing it coming. It is a much different world we live in compared to when I grew up in 80\'s and the USSR was our biggest worry. At least then you knew where your enemy was and could see them.
As for your numbers request - from the link above:
While the new jobless rate was the lowest since October 2001, the drop in the unemployment rate in August came as people left the work force for any number of reasons. Economists were predicting the jobless rate to hold steady in August.
Considering that 10/2001 was 10 months into Bush\'s first term - that is a very good figure.

Yeah...Hopefully that speech can bring back all the dead soldiers. Or capture Laden. Funny how he stayed off that subject.
Fantastic convention...Yeah, especially when you have the terminator calling others "gurlie man"
I wonder how much Bush will stay on that "blue print"...What president stays on their "blue print"?
You mean how he joked about his speech flaws?
The guy steered off all the main topics people wanted to hear about and focused on his stubborn decisions, unability to change and his failure to use useful intelligence. Then again why would he if he\'s trying to convince people to give him another chance?
Overall, money can make any convention good. I bet he paid top dollar for all of those speeches(sp)
I don\'t know what\'s worst. Losing so many jobs over a period of time...or being happy that we get a couple of months with a job increase and we take it as if the sun has shined a new face on this president.

Mystiq - read the post above - jobless rate lowest since 10/2001
Bush paid for the speeches? :stick:
Please get off the Republicans are richer than the Democrats kick - they both spend relatively the same money for conventions. I know for someone like you it is hard not to be bitter that the RNC was better than the DNC.
Bush also talked about the domestic topics people wanted to hear for the whole first half of his speech - education, healthcare, the economy and jobs.
Also what useful intelligence are you referring to? The British, the Russians and our own intelligence stated the same thing. He also said he was not willing to take the chance that Saddam could have WMD\'s that could be used against America. I completely agree.

Hmm...let me check my memory vault...YUP I KNOW THAT.
I know all speeches are written by somebody else. But people are praising Bush for a speech he wouln\'t have come up with if God had given him a new brain.
I didn\'t watch the entire RNC so I wouln\'t know. I didn\'t watch the entire DNC so I can\'t compare the two.
And the whole money issue had nothing to do with Republicans being richer than whomever you said.
Today at work I was talking to a Vietnam veteran who supports Kerry. He told me that after he got back to the war, he was completely against it also. And so were alot of his friends. B/c he saw it as a religious war when people began not only attacking his troops b/c they were invading but because they were Christians...b/c they were American...And he didn\'t feel like the war did anything but put lives on the line. Too bad Bush can\'t tell stories like that huh?

Too bad Bush can\'t tell stories like that huh?
WTF are you talking about Vietnam being a religious war!?!?!?!?! Really kid, you need to get an education. Vietnam was purely a political war - Communism vs. Capitalism.

Giga...stop putting words in my mouth. I said "money can make any convention good"
I DIDN\'T SAY "Republicans had a good convention because they have more money"
Get an education?
I don\'t know if you read that I was TALKING to a VIETNAM VETERAN. I wasn\'t stating it as a FACT. Damn Giga. He said it had an impact on him when a Viet priest covered himself in gasoline and burned himself and said something about dying instead of letting Americans take him. Holy shit, you should work for your boy Bush, you two are really good at making things look like they aren\'t.
I didn\'t watch them completely. I didn\'t say I DIDN\'T WATCH THEM AT ALL.
Bush\'s convention was a "There is hope! Just let me try again!" type
Kerry\'s was a "If you let him try again he\'ll screw up!" type
And LIC I\'m not old enough to vote. By 5 months. But I do have an opinion. And believe it or not, there are alot of people in my class that DO listen to my opinion and ARE voting for Kerry. Even the ones that didn\'t register decided to register just to vote for Kerry. So please STFU and hopefully Bush doesn\'t get selected again so people like you can just sit back and take it.
Now let\'s all sit back and watch the 1K+ dead soldiers roll in...and counting.

In case you haven\'t figured it out - it means the same thing.

Yes, get an education - the US wasn\'t over there fighting Buddhist monks - they were fighting Communist North Vietnamese. You/he or both of you are idiots. I can\'t determine which one of you said what, but since you are posting that mindless babble I will lean toward you misinterpreting what he said. Read...
The first self immolations in regards to the US and S. Vietnamese government happened in 1963 - The first US troops didn\'t arrive in the country until 1965 in Da Nang. What year was this so called Vietnam vet in Vietnam? Secondly, "the Americans were not coming to take him" as you or your misinformed friend claim. These self immolations were a sign of political and religious protest mainly against the S. Vietnamese government due to religious grievences. In other cases they were against the war in general - not because American troops were rounding up Buddhist monks. Buddhists have used similiar tactics since the year 4 BC when Alexander the Great invaded India.

I really want LIC to answer this one, but I just have to comment - what moron would listen to you? I really am curious. Does MTV Rock The Vote know about you and what mad motivation skillz you have? Why hasn\'t Kerry called you to be one of his key advisors since you know how to manipulate people with your witty political insights?

I think the problem is that Sir lacks any kind of focus on the actual subjects at hand - he is what I refer to as a person who just wants to follow whatever is different and at this moment, Kerry is different. Don\'t get me wrong, I will vote for Kerry also (if I indeed do vote), but unlike Sir, I can provide arguments about it, instead of just repeating myself like a broken record. Which is all he does.. Blah blah, I\'m mexican, blah blah I don\'t agree with the war.. Give me a break and come up with an original thought, if that is possible for you.
I truly doubt anyone has ever been influenced by your opinion, due to your complete lack of debating skills.

Wow funny how much you can see through letters.
You honestly don\'t know anything about my debating skills or how I think other than the fact that I don\'t care to amuse some egocentric couple by posting stuff that would please and encourage a right-wing nut job and a left-wing shame.
No it doesn\'t mean the same thing. I didn\'t allude to Republicans being richer than Democrats. That is what you said I typed and that is what you claim I intended to say.
I know what the Viet war was about. Don\'t try to lecture me. Honestly you know nothing of my intelligence. But we all know how great you are...
The dude was a Viet veteran with a cap and everything. I talked to the guy for a couple of minutes, I\'m not best friends with the guy. It seriously crossed my mind that he was kind of looney but it was an interesting view.
Both of you LIC and Giga go hand in hand in these forums. Both of you consider yourselfs established in a certain level of intelligence that runs through these forums. You have no equal because in your mind all you see is my age and how much I don\'t agree with you. That translates to you automatically judging me as stupid and yourselves as superior. Kind of sad if you think about it.
How do you debate online? Post. Wait a couple of hours. And post again?
I\'m in the debate team and one of their top ones. Debates? How is posting online a debate? You have hours to look up stuff just to prove somebody wrong, in a debate you have to be quick on your feet and come up with something quick.
I\'ve always gone Democrat. I don\'t believe that the government should be run by people who want to tell others how to live. I find it sad that religious groups claim the Republican party because they feel as if that party is the only one that supports whatever it is they feel is right. Religion should stop trying to become politically involved because history shows how much it can screw the people over. Republicans encourage and praise these kind of thoughts by religious groups and take advantage of it.
Republicans view the non-rich as people who need to get up their ass and do something. They don\'t focus on the middle or lower class and would do anything to cut back on the amount of welfare and so on these people get. I stand firm on the believe that the role of the government is to appease and comform to the people, which is what the fathers intended and when government goes too far somebody has to stop them.
Tocqueville once said that this country is unique because all people have the opportunity to become richer and make a better life for themselves. The fathers wanted this country to be that way.
I want kerry to win because I think Bush has led this country in the wrong direction. The situation in Iraq was overhauled as critical and dangerous when in reality it became dangerous the moment our troops got there. Enemies of the US are using Iraq as a battle ground in order to get to US lifes. There had never been so many car bombings and suicidal maniacs in Iraq but now more and more religious extremist are finding a home in Iraq which in turn isn\'t going to help the Iraqi people. It isn\'t going to get any better.
He has also cut ties to other nations. Which in time will come back to haunt us. Russia just went through an extreme terrorist act. And they don\'t feel as if the US is helping them at all. Bush is leading this country in one direction. Terrorism will not end at the hands of Bush. Russia can be a helpful ally on this war but I doubt Putin would want to talk with Bush. Any country which was ridiculed by the Bush Admin. would be too proud to begin anything.
His tax cuts are for the rich and I don\'t think Bill Gates needs the money to put his kids through college.
I think Kerry should win because he will lead this country in a new direction. And that is what we need. We can\'t just keep pushing a mans agenda which hasn\'t worked to expectations over the last few years. A new face in the oval office would hopefully convince other nations to help us in Iraq and overall end the conflict without further deaths.
Kerry can be as any good a leader as Bush. I don\'t view Kerry as a "flip flop" The guy is willing to change with time and with what the people want. Not how he feels about it. If our first president would have been as stubborn as Bush, we would be living in the stone age.

LOL. Nice.
I call it a moment of inspiration.
I don\'t recall what the post was about exactly but alot of you even Giga said I copied and pasted. I didn\'t. But I didn\'t want to say anything because you wouln\'t believe me so W/E. I don\'t remember what it was about.
Anyways.
Instead of focusing my threads on pissing off Giga I would try to be more objective about it.
I thought the RNC was good. The speeches and all. I just don\'t feel that Bush concentrated around the issues at hand. Not only that but he seemed too stubborn and single minded.
Kerry on the other hand needs to get his ass to work. The GOP has burned him about anything you can think off and he needs to do something about it quick.
The debates will be far more interesting to watch. I think we need a president that has the intelligence and capacity to think for himself. Bush will look silly on the debates. And that will be Kerrys golden opportunity.
-
If that was your inspiration, I have to say, I\'d hate to listen to one of your debates.
His tax cuts are for the rich and I don\'t think Bill Gates needs the money to put his kids through college.
It is quote\'s like this that show you lack any actual knowledge of what the hell is going on. You resort to bringing someone else into your pathetic analogy.
The debates will be far more interesting to watch. I think we need a president that has the intelligence and capacity to think for himself. Bush will look silly on the debates. And that will be Kerrys golden opportunity.
The debates do not hold near the amount they use to. While I favor Kerry, I\'m not blind enough to not see his campaign is failing. Why? Because he doesn\'t have a clue what the people want to hear. Focus groups show they the number one priority is the handling of terrorist and the war on terror, but Kerry continue\'s to run his campaign on an extremely weak war story. It\'s not enough. Discussing the economy is not enough. The Democractic Convention was weak as Kerry\'s campaign and that is the problem. He had a great monemetum (spell check!) at first, but as recently slacked off and in a campaign for the Presidental spot, any slacking or missteps can be fatal.
I truly doubt that Kerry\'s Adminstration will be capable of taking the country in an entire new direction. Provided they get elected, there is far to much already set in stone by the Bush Adminstration, a national debt, army stretched thin and many other problems.

How many times have you alluded to or said that the Republicans are rich and all they care about are the rich????? Wait a minute! You even say it in this post a few paragraphs down!

You on a debate team? You don\'t even know simple facts - let alone present them in a convincing manner. I also call into question your truthfulness on these forums as you have made claims regarding your real life in the past here that have been proved untrue. If you really are on a debate "team" what book should every member of a debate team have memorized? Lastly, while this isn\'t a standard debate forum, I usually respond within a minute or so when I am online and usually go by what I know - yes I am that great ;)

Funny, religion wasn\'t a main topic at the RNC. I think this was a smart move on the part of the GOP. If you don\'t believe government should be run by people who tell others how to live then you are voting for the wrong party. Democrats want to put taxes on food they feel is unhealthy for you, taxes on gasoline to limit your ability to drive as much as you would like to, etc.

Ahhh here it is - you allude to Republicans as being rich people who don\'t care about the poor... Anyway, they do focus on the middle class - I pretty much get my full income tax back at the end of the year. Cut back on welfare? That is a bad thing? It sounds to me like you support people getting something for nothing. Sorry, it doesn\'t work that way in this country and statements like that further my opinion that you expect this country to give you and other immigrants a free ride.

Bush isn\'t a an appeaser. You can\'t negotiate with terrorists and lead a more "sensitive" war on terror.
If our first president wasn\'t stubborn we would be part of the British Commonwealth.
