Title: Trip to DC / Montreal - 56Kers MUST DIE Slowly
Post by: videoholic on September 06, 2004, 07:28:58 PM
Wifey is on her way home now.  I am in a hotel in Motreal.

And yes, I was in DC when the storm hit.  Here\'s a pic of my boy kicking back in the Jefferson Monument.

This is at th FDR Monument.  I have a couple good ones of this.  This was a second and a half exposure wedging the camera up against a rock.  I took about 10 and got a couple good ones.

Here are 4 pics I messed with on the plane.  I may do this for real when I get home.  I need to mask out the people though.  They look odd all colorized.

These are taken at Glen Echo Park outside of DC.  Same place as the Crystal Pool above.  It\'s a run down place from the late 1800\'s early 1900\'s I think.  They are trying to fix it up, but right now it\'s just a cool place to take pictures.  I have a ton, but this is enough.

This is also at FDR.  That monument is just flat out cool.  So many elements to it.  This is done with about a second and a half shutter with my camera shoved up against a wall about 30 feet away.  Sucks not having a tripod.

WW2 Memorial.  This is a shot looking towards the Lincoln Memorial.  I really wish I had a nice camera to shoot with.  This thing is a little cheapy.

That Crystal pools is pretty neat.  Inside you can kind of make out where a pool may have been, but there are trees towering through it.  That thing has been run down for at least 50 year.

Logan is great.  He is such a poser.  I asked him to look sad in that pic.  What a ham.

Very sweet.... he must have been tired, I can\'t imagine him standing still for that second and a half exposure.

Dude, my kid loves to pose.  The one with him lying on the floor of the Jefferson Memorial was classic.  He was hanging out listening to the park guy and I asked him to come over and sit down.  Because of the long exposure I couldn\'t do it with him sitting, so he laid down and was as still as he could be.

The pic looked clear in the camera or I would have taken it again.  I did a couple effects to it to make the blurry face look more natural, but I was bummed when I saw it.

Logan was in rare form last week.  Lona told me on the flight home he would not stop asking the guy sitting next to him questions.  They even discussed the color of their houses.  His was yellow.

Let me guess... That shirt in the second picture says "I love Dad".  I need to get Ethan one of those.

your kid doesn\'t seem happy.

He looks rather shy and sad.
Does he have any friends?

I think you should hang out with him more and make him socializable.
Cheers him up more.  Makes him more outgoing...

Yo Vid, you check out the Holocaust Museum?

Might be a little too gory for Logan\'s taste, but it\'s a good one to check out if you ever go back.

See Yuz.

I wanted to go there, but Logan just wouldn\'t have had fun.  We hit the air and Space and also Natural History.  I have some cool dinosaur pics, but no big whoop.

I told Logan to act sad in that pic.  You can\'t really see it, but he was holding a ticket in his hand.  Kind of like his ticket to get in the pool.

I loved the FDR memorial when I went back in 8th grade (class trip for a couple days. Kicked ass). I have a few pics of that....I just can\'t find them :( . I went into the Halocaust Memorial back when I was in 6th grade. Too young to take for granted what it was. When I was in the Air and Space Museum in 6th grade, they had the Star Wars exhibit which was cool. I got lots of pictures of that....I just don\'t know where they are. When I went in 8th grade, I took lots of pics of planes and stuff, since I\'m really into aviation. DC=cool place to go. Vid, was the Washington Monument open when you went? That\'s been closed a long time.

It was open, but the grounds around it were all torn up.

As a matter of fact all the grounds around all buildings were barackaded.  I guess they are in the process of reinforcing all the buildings for truck bombs.

One thing was very unsettling though.  Went to Union Station to catch the 10:20 train to Baltimore.

Got there at 10:15.  Bought our tickets at 10:17.  Had absolutely no screening of any kind and jumped on the train with a minute to spare.

I was floored.  Any terrorist could easily walk on a train as it goes over a key bridge or something and blow it up.

One more of the WW2 memorial.

They had pillars all the way around a real nice fountain.  The pillars represented the states.  THey had a wall of stars for fallen soldiers and a lot of inspiration etched on the walls and on the ground.

OK, now I\'m in Montreal.  Any of you ever been here?

We got done early so we drove around a bit.  Got here late, but this is St. Joseph\'s Oratory.

There is no way to explain how freaking huge this place is.  It\'s on the isde of a large hill too.  Well they call it Mount Royal, so maybe it\'s a mountain.  I dunno.  Anyway, those darn Catholics really know how to spend some jack.

I\'ve been to St. Joseph\'s before. It\'s magnificent. Like my cock. Anyway, Montreal is quite nice. They have tons great restaurants and the people there....well...they all speak English perfectly yet nearly all the damned signs are in French!

Gotta admit, Canada is clean. Hardly any litter. Then again, they get educated immigrants unlike in the US. ;)

I love Montreal. Man i had such a good time there. Better than Toronto and toronto is pretty nice too. Its very clean and some of those french canadians are cute. They have this pretty neat club from what i hear over there. I had a flyer that a guy gave to me but its lost somewhere. I dont even know why i kept it.

They have the fake Notre Dam etc. Well at least where i was. Nice restaurants too. Take more pictures too.

And that first FDR shot - Did you tell them to stay still becuse for a 1. w/e second shot they would have to be incredibly still.

The fountain shot?  I took like 10 - 15 of them.  I got like 3 good ones.  All the others had motion blur.

Yeah, it was getting nasty when I left.  It was real bad when we took off.  You couldn\'t even see the planes taking off from the runway.  Nasty.  I was on a little jet too.  12 rows.  We had a couple nice drops of turbulance.  BUt I\'m back in Tampa now.
