Title: I didn\'t see a thread about "Hero" so here\'s a spoiler thread about it.
Post by: GmanJoe on September 07, 2004, 07:13:24 AM: I thought it was better than Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. It stars the little dragon chick (her name in the movie -forget her real name) but here role is minor. The story, the cinematic scenes are jaw droppingly beautiful. The Chinese folklore are quite into flying warriors and this movie does not shy away from its high trapeze martial arts. There are a few overly dramatics but that\'s expected from this type of love story. "Love story", you say? Well, it wasn\'t a love story until towards the middle of the movie. It was only then you realize the truth. And yet, the truth is still wrapped in mystery until towards the end of the movie.

Jet Li, speaking in his native Mandarin, was superb. He actually sounded like someone who could kick your ass from here to Beijing and without sounding like some Chinese tourist.

Jet Li\'s moves are real and not sped up. I think the Iron Monkey guy was in the first fight scene. Sky was his name. He kicked ass too.

Post by: Coredweller on September 07, 2004, 11:45:47 AM: It\'s funny how everyone likes to lay claim to having seen it months or years ago on DVD. We all know it\'s been completed for a long time. No one cares. A theatrical presentation is better anyway.

It was a very good movie. Zhang Ziyi is the hotness. I like the expression on her face when her master Broken Sword finally grabs her. :)

Fist of Legend was sped up, very subtedly in some fights. Donnie Yen rocks too. I wish he didn\'t die so early into the film, or wish they all worked as a team to free Jet from the king\'s palace instead of him dying in it.

As for the DVD I\'ve had the DTS import but I\'ll be getting the R1 release. It looks like it will have the original Chinese soundtrack and hopefully proper 3:2 pulldown flagging this time.

I thought the wire fighting was sloppy and kind of broke the mood a few times but other than that the visuals were quite stunning. Very good use of color and an interesting story.

I know!!! One guy in the theater kept telling his friend to watch for Quentin\'s cameo...I laughed.

From what I understand Quentin just helped get it over here.

I\'ve never encountered that level of stupidity, but I\'d like to. Every now and then it\'s enjoyable to laugh in someone\'s face.

I can\'t get over that loser who got eliminated in IFC\'s Ultimate Film Fanatic because he couldn\'t think of any more James Cameron films. :laughing:

A lot of people were irritated at the fact that certain things were changed by "Miramaxe" to fit their likings. I hear a scene was also cut which makes me wonder because i would have liked the film to be longer.

I cant quite explain how much i liked the movie but there were just little things here and there that i didnt like. To some degree i hated the fact that some of the swords were so plastic/wobbly. Then again at some points it made some sense. IDK what im saying.

Well i guess to make this short, i wasnt thrilled with the way the movie ended but It was still good. Worth the money.

Some chinese traditional swords are flexible/wobbly.Especially Shaolin monks use many spears and swords that are like that.And btw.Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon also had swords that were like that

He was on Jimmey Kimmel and was talking about this movie he was kind of explaining it as an "endorsment" Jimmy said so you put your name on it to sucker in people to watch it. Quentint says well I guess thats true too :)

I loved it!

The plot, the story, the action, the scenes, they were all fascinating. Sadly, there were some moronic teenagers in the theaters letting everybody know how much they thought it sucked and how it was so gay.

Seriously, people can\'t appreciate movies. Teenagers really need to get their heads out their ass.
