Title: Internet Explorer vs. Firefox vs. Opera vs. anything else
Post by: Mr. Kennedy on September 15, 2004, 05:55:26 PM
Ok ok, so I got a new laptop the other day and a few days later I put firefox on it, and all I can say is that it is a GREAT program.

However, the graphics load slower for some reason.  At home I have I.E. because I use outlook express.

I can\'t really decide which one I like better, and it\'s hard for me to reccomend one over the other, I.E. is of course what everyone uses because it is part of the Wintel monopoly.

What is your favorite browser? And which one would you reccomend?

I\'ve tried \'em all and I really haven\'t found anything I like better than IE.

Firefox does get rid of popups.  It even has extensions that will kill webpage flash ads as well or block ads from specific websites.  It\'s amazing what you can do.

I would say that IE is the best since it\'s obviously the most used and most supported browser, but the security holes, the hijacks, and all the other crap that comes with it is really unacceptable.  I hate having to have 5 different spyware programs just to kill the crap that IE incures over a single day\'s use.

Ryu\'s right, in my mind it\'s not worth quarantining your comp every other day just b/c of browsing the internet.

i find myself using IE over firefox simply because its simple...   i don\'t need every extension over the moon.. i have hardware firewall and spyware/spybot monitoring my system. so spyware has little effect on my system.

all is well.

Firefox I find is just as, if not more simple than I.E. Just my opinion though.  This is a new laptop so I don\'t want spyware on my compy.

isnt IE faster? Firefox is kool but i havent had too much time w/ it. My popup blocker is the best that i know of and gets rid of basically everything. The time a pop up slips is about 1 every 300 or more pop ups. So as far as that goes im fine.

Im not one to love MS but IE is simple and doesnt take up as many resources.

where the hell have u been? :D

PS- Of the 4 comps in my house the ones that had IE always got spyware.  Spybot would turn up hundreds of files over a couple week\'s time.  I switched every puter over to Firefox and there are no problems at all since.

Firefox is also faster for me.  I don\'t have to run any firewall outside of the NAT shiza in my router and no resource-wasting monitoring programs.

Then Firefox?  Definitely not.  Just the \'open in tabs\' feature puts IE to shame in terms of speed.

Like many above posters said,

I used to use IE until I got pop ups, and worst of all lots of viruses that it make my computer unusuable.

I have to reformat my hdd and reinstall Window XP because of it.  Afterward, I quickly download Firefox and haven\'t got  any problems with computer viruses that make my computer start doing strange things since.

Not much is mention about Opera...

what is it?

shift press link is just as quick as firefox\'s alt and press link.   just not as neat.

i have been using firefox at home / work since you guys suggested it to me. Its really nice, easy to use.

some website, IE is wayfaster then Firefox.

just try http://www.nwguild.com/forums/index.php?s=&menu=2

see how firefox open the page strangely.

go to the same place with IE, and the page loads up way faster.

Anyway, i dont have any pops-up and tracking cookies stuff since i have firefox, so i am sticking with.

haha, Firefox loaded it all in about .7 sec.  Opened IE, pasted the link, clicked go and all I saw was the top banner.  Waited 7 seconds, still nothing so clicked refresh.  Load time about 1 second total.

Poor design is not to be blamed on the browser but the designer.  For some reason the left sidebars are seen in the middle of the page in Firefox.  The designer probably has them set on centered somewhere in his code and doesn\'t know it, then the bars default to the left when the forums open.

In IE it just stays blank until the forums load.

Ya that site looks bad cause they didnt make it IE and Mozilla friendly. Personally I use firefor for the extensions. Being a webdesigner there are tons of cool tools that come with it including a button so I can see what the page looks like at any screen size I pic now that cool If I ever want to see what it looks like at 800X600 bam the browser automatically resizes to that very cool.

That Nightwatcher site opened up in about half the time in Firefox while IE, as THX said, had the top banner loaded and it took a little bit longer to load the forums list.

Dont have firefox on this computer but IE loaded it up pretty quickly. The banner was there for a second or two but after that everything else just popped up.

It could change each time. Either way im not complaining really. Its better than AOL thats for sure, heh. Dont have to worry about pop ups either.

I just switched over to Firefox as my default browser and it\'s great. No hijacks, no pop-ups.. good speed/functionality.

Also, Cyrus\' avatar doesn\'t work properly with IE. It\'s all slow and choppy, while on Firefox it\'s full-speed and smooth.

IE has no connection to Outlook Express.  You can run Outlook Express without IE.  BTW full blown Outlook is better.

I really don\'t need the full outlook, all I do is send and recieve, I wouldn\'t even know what to do with those other functions.

Any browser without tabs is not a true browser.

Firefox hates me. The damn screen starts bouncing when I use it.

Mozilla will suffice.
