Title: Hopkins vs de la Hoya
Post by: GmanJoe on September 20, 2004, 05:07:53 AM
I predicted Hoya would be KO\'d in the 9th. I was right.

Anyone else see the fight? Hopkins could have ended it ealier. Then when he decided to end it, he threw a left hook to the liver and it was over. Oscar de la Hoya was crying!

Maybe he isn\'t the Next Great Champ after all.

Is he really going to quit this time?

I don\'t think he planned that body blow to take him down like that. I was a little surprised...I was like WTF?? I like Live TV, when De La Hoya said f*ck really loud :D He got up and was fine, dunno why he didn\'t do that earlier. I would have stood the funk up, and not cried like that. Then again, I have no idea what he was feeling.

De La Hoya was way above his best fighting weight, but he also didn\'t use any of his trademark moves, which really pissed me off and made the fight quite boring. I\'m still surprised when he fell to the ground. I kind of expected that Hopkins would win, he\'s just too damn good. I just wanted to see Oscar give him a wakeup call. Guess it didn\'t happen.

Hoya is a SELL OUT.

Shit after suffering so damn much he just got up like nothing. I would of expected some damn liver damage.

I lost 20 bucks b/c of that sell out.

I shouln\'t know that big black muscular guy was going to win.

SELL OUT

No. He expressed some interest in the Trinidad/Mayorga fight this Oct 2. If Trinidad (the first one to beat Oscar) loses, then he\'s interested in seeing who wins in the rematch between Wright/ Mosely. Mosely beat Oscar twice.

Many years ago, when De La Hoya fought Pernel Whitaker, I thought (for sure) that he lost. Pernel was too slick to be caught with a punch by Oscar and he tagged Oscar most of the night. Oscar got a gift decision.

Liver shots are difficult to get up from. They cause the body to seize up like a dead motor. Only way to relieve it is to stretch out your back by laying on the floor on yer belly. That\'s what Oscar tried to do. But Bernard Hopkins\' liver chop was hard and hit him below and behind Oscar\'s right rib cage. Most fighters can\'t get up from that.
