Title: Whatcha lookin forward to?
Post by: Eiksirf on September 20, 2004, 02:52:31 PM
I passed on Pikmin 2, but now Def Jam Fight for New York is out. Mortal Kombat Deception is on the way. GTA: San Andreas is coming.

I\'m gonna take a pass on Metroid Prime 2 and Halo 2, though. I didn\'t enjoy the first ones as much as most people seemed to.

I\'m kind of interested in Donkey Konga for kicks, too. That\'ll be out any day. And I\'m curious on Fable. I\'ll wait til its cheap and pre-played and then maybe pick it up.

Oh and the Nintendo DS should be on the horizon. I\'ll be all over that one.

What are you looking forward to in the coming months?

-Dan

In the immediate future? Metroid Prime 2. I was in the "MP = GOTY" camp in 2002. Fan-bloody-tastic.

Halo 2, although I didn\'t like Halo so much.

Half-Life 2..

Still working on Pikmin 2, Tales of Symphonia, and Four Swords.. for retro gaming I\'ve been on SOTN.. and just got Fable in the mail.

Nice to see so much love for X-Men Legends in this thread.  I can\'t wait for it either.  Should arrive via Gamefly this week.  First of all, before I get into what I\'m anticipating, I\'d like to talk about what I\'ve picked up since, oh, lets say since the start of September as that\'s usually the start of the holiday rush.  Some would argue late August, but that\'s usually just the sports game run with the exception of Pikmin 2 bringing up the rear on the 31st.  Regardless, here\'s what I\'ve played\\picked up so far:

Gradius V -- This one has been friggin AWESOME thus far and it\'s less then 30 dollars for the PS2.  If you guys decide to pick it up, I promise plenty of hours of good, fun, challenging gaming.  Also, pick type 2, get the max number of multiples, and get the laser updrade.  You\'ll be seriously in destructive bliss.

***Warning*** Don\'t buy if you suck at games.

Call of Duty: United Offensive -- An expansion to the illustrious PC game that came out last year.  I know plenty of people here enjoyed the first game and this one adds to it in a lot of ways.  It hasn\'t really lost any luster over this past year, but some of the scripted events are sort of annoying as enemies come at you non-stop until you reach a certain point to stop them.  Kind of lame in that regard but plenty cool and action oriented nonetheless.

Street Fighter Anniversary Collection -- I\'ll be the first to admit that ever since this one came out for PS2, my Dreamcast has been dead quiet.  I\'m sorry, I love you Dreamcast, but using adapters to parry was something me and my friend got used to at one time, but never again.  Parrying four or five hits in a row is no problem now.  I just love Street Fighter III Third Strike.

Burnout 3: Takedown -- A long time ago, I remember reviewing Gran Turismo 3 for this forum at great length and I remember dreading and discovering much love to be found in it.  Some of the cars handeled really nice and earning the licenses wasn\'t nearly as bad as I remembered it, but about a month later, I wished I didn\'t write that review as I started hating the series once again falling back to the much more proficient and user friendly Ridge Racer series.  Now, Imagine Ridge Racer overdosing on crack and speed, and then add lots and lots of crashing and you have Burnout 3.  It\'s so good, even Rya loves it and she HATES all racing games.  Even Mario Kart.

ESPN NHL2K5 -- It\'s fun.  It\'s hockey.  Not much to say.  It\'s $20.  BUY IT NOW!  :)

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War -- I played the demo that can be found all over the net and immediately found it to be awesome.  I love RTS games that make infantry powerful and a valuable commodity.  Too many RTS games trivialize them, but in Warhammer, you can outfit them with heroes, like the ones found in Warcraft, who can boost their morale and sargents that also keep them together and select different weapons for each of them to carry making each squad of soldiers unique in their own way.  Outfit them with rockets, gatling guns, lasers, sniper rifles and then upgrade those weapons with more range and more power.  It\'s just amazing what this game is doing with the license.  After playing the demo, I ordered my copy from Gamestop.  It\'ll be here Thursday.

Pikmin 2 -- I have not had the time to really get into this one yet as Rya has been playing this one mostly.  She says she likes it, but she is also stuck in a certain area as well.  I\'ll needto help her out.

Puyo Pop -- Not exactly Puzzle Fighter and the fact that it lacks four-player is kinda irritating, but the game itself is pretty fun.  Rya whips my ass in it almost everytime, but it\'s nice having a game we can really compete in.  Plus, it was a steal at $20 at walmart.com.

Sly Cooper 2 -- This has been sitting here since last Thursday, but I just have not had time to really sit down and sink my teeth into it yet.  Hopefully I will soon.

With that covered, here\'s what I am anticipating this week:

I was interested in Star Wars Battlefront, but that game fell off my radar after the mediocre ign.pc review.  I\'ll wait for the Gamespot review, but I don\'t expect much better, unfortunately.  Aside from that, here\'s what I want for the rest of the year:

I think that\'s enough.

B3 is instantly more enjoyable on Xbox because of the custom soundtracks.  This is the first game that made me start ripping my collection to the Xbox, and well worth it.  Now I look forward to the beginning of every race just to see what song will play. :)  Only gripe is 2-3 crashes can mean death when you progress further but I finally got Gold in that damn F-1 GP.

edit- wow 4 players for Xmen!  Another party game it looks like.

I bought B3 for XBox and ripped my CD\'s on the harddrive just so that I could listen to them while driving. I thought it was totally ass. Apart from the fact that it\'s totally drowned out by the awesome sound effects, some of the lesser, but more important sound effects (such as drifting) are drowned out by any music. It\'s lose lose. Much prefer putting the music off.

I bought MGS: Substance recently (hadn\'t played any MGS in well over a year), and I\'m actually looking forward to MGS3 now. Others include Silent Hill 5 : The Supermarket of Samael, and.
err...
That\'s it?

There\'s a plethora of other titles in my mind that I\'m not much "looking forward to" yet, but waiting whether or not they turn out OK enough, such as DMC3, Resi4 and...
err...
That\'s it.

I\'m in desperate need of more horror so I\'m looking forward to buying Forbidden Siren, Fatal Frame 1 & 2, Alien vs. Predator (cheap\'o!)  and Kurushi Final (\'orrible, eh?) in the near future.

^ I agree. Games like Silent Hill4 and MGS3 are and will be ported to PC. It\'s just that they release soooooooooo long after the console launch and most of the times the pc ports are quite buggy and very bare bones.

Indeed, you\'re better off playing these games on a console with some very good RGB scart cable.

Wow, yea, the 2D Mario adventure will be great. And it\'s loooong overdue. Like Post-SNES overdue.

I\'ve picked up most of my anticpated games. Still waiting for GTA: SA. Believe it or not, I\'m now anticipating Mike Tyson\'s Punch Out!! and Contra. My car NES project, after a long financial setback, is almost complete. :)

SH4 is already on pc.   As for waiting, i\'ve done it lots of time. So it doesn\'t bother me. I prefer to play games like GTA on my pc. They play heaps better then consoles and i rather have the better experience on pc. Better sound, graphics, controls. I just prefer to wait. :)

Ha. My ass. Dolby surround, Fat ass leather coutch and a huge ass tv? You can keep your resolution but Id much rather play GTA on console.... well... damn. I guess it depends. First time around its all about ps2 though. :p

why ohh why do people think a pc can\'t have surround..  I spit on dolby surround (if you\'re referring to pro logic surrond that is) I\'m on a 5.1 Dolby digital system with a fat ass wicked chair ;)
I like my rez, and my tv isn\'t much bigger then my monitor. I\'d rather spend a few grand on a big ass monitor then TV..  Since i don\'t watch tv much anyway. I\'d just rather not ruin the experience by playing that type of game on a console with crappy controls.  To each their own. :)

I\'m with Soulgrind on the monitor preference although I have nothing against playing on one of my consoles.

I practically don\'t watch tv programs either. I dunno.. I have so much better use for my scarce free time than watching stuff the channels want you to watch.

I prefer switching on my console, puting in a disk and enjoying a some good gaming on my couch without worrying about specs.
:)
If there arent huge improvements on the PC version I dont think its worth waiting.Otherwise I prefer playing the game on my console.
MGS2 or SH2 for example on PC had slight improvements.Nothing signifigant. These games are best enjoyied on a console IMO.

Yes. To each his own. Im talking about 6 (4) tower speakers, A big ass tv (no monitor unless your rich could possibly be as big. dont remember the size though). Leather couch or laz e boy ( i have both.)

On gta i think the ps2 controller far out does the pc. Two components instead of one just isnt going to cut it. But like you said - To each his own.

pfffft...  Yay for autoaim

oh, and if when u think about it. It\'s not really what pc can handle. it\'s what you can afford. A pc with a widescreen LCD monitor, ANY HT system hooked up to it will be imo better then a tv / ht / console system. Only reason why is because of the higher rez, graphic effects etc.  I still play fighters on consoles only though, only roms on my pc.

That\'s what i can\'t understand. Everyone seems to have it burned in their minds that pcs can\'t have peripheral devices. I\'ve got 2 psx controls running of my pc, a LT Rumble Gamepad and M$ sidewinder pad.  Its not about what it can do, because pcs pretty much do it all. Its about how much you wanna spend to get it to do it. Only draw back to pcs...  They\'re friggin expensive.

Yeah...I never understood this either...I used to have a sidewinder pad...loved that thing. PCs have assloads of peripherals...and patches...and upgrades...and freedom...
