Title: The best adware/spyware remover
Post by: Seed_Of_Evil on September 27, 2004, 11:05:13 AM
I installed yesterday a couple of programs in my PC and some of them should carry a ****ing adware module that was installed together with the application. Now my starting webpage is continuosly changed, new elinks appears in favourites, ad windows... this is a disaster. Could you tell me what\'s the best program to remove this shit? I have Search and Destroy but it seems not be able to uninstall this crap.

Thanx a lot.

Ah something similar happened to the other computer (which I never use anyways, but sometimes my brother does), I don’t know how but a lot of shit ended up on the system. The desktop was full of ad-crap and it was impossible to change back to the original startpage..  Ad-aware did not solve anything so we did a rollback in Windows.

Now everything works fine.

Adan which version of Spybot do you have?

The reason I ask is that version 1.2 was recently upgraded to 1.3 final and it is much better.

I use this along with Ad-aware 6.0  and things have always been okay for me.

I did have a bad trojan at one time that needed these two programs plus another program called CWSshredder. CWS shreder is good for getting rid of some of the nastier ones that other programs can\'t fix.

Ad-aware 6.0 In combination with Spybot has given me the best results.

i used spybot and ad aware too...

so that makes me three?

:D

But, i do notice that it doesn\'t always entired get rid of all the horror viruses...nor does it fix some "weird stuff that start doing strange things to my computer"...

So, that mean i need to upgrade it or something to get rid of the newer viruses or something...

but so far so good...

Just a bit of info for most of you all, if you run Panda anti-virus, it conflicts with a lot of Spyware remover programs and causes your PC to come up with a NT AUTHORITY /SYSTEM error.

Panda is still the best antivirus out there. Please no dissing.

I would suggest ad-subtract pro. with IE6 in xp sp2 if you must run IE. Not one piece of spyware on the pc in over 6 months. Not even a tracking cookie.

Bah! No dissing? That thing caused me much heart-ache yesterday! I was blaming my error on Creative Labs, until you came over yesterday. :D

Still, I would imagine that will be fixed in a newer release.

I need to pick up that ad-subtract Pro.

Lic no need if you are running firefox.

I really think the panda problem is the version you dled. It had more of an internet security thing going on. Total coverage or some bs.

Maybe so . Either way, thanks for the help on trouble shooting the problem.

Oh and those 4.9 ATI drivers I installed apparently caused me to take quite a hit on Aquamark 3. According to the HardOCP forums the drivers help with DOOM 3, but other games / apps take a hit. Go figure.

Ah, the beatuy of a new PC...
Go APPLE .
