Microsoft\'s efforts to tie the Windows PC and Xbox platforms closer together have moved forward once more, with Windows Gaming boss Dean Lester revealing that Xbox 2 peripherals will work on PCs.
Speaking in a recent interview, Lester confirmed that "Xbox 2 peripherals will all work on PC," while the next version of Windows, currently codenamed Longhorn, will provide support for Xbox Live functionality.
So it looks like Xbox Live is opening up! I would think that with XNA makes Xbox 2/Xenon a very attractive console for PC developers and also for console developers wanting to go PC...
Interesting:)

Now there making sure its a PC in a box..
why call it xbox.. Why not name it MiniMe.

This is the exact thing MS should not be doing. They have to seperate themselves from the PC, if nothing else due to the "
PC in a box" mentality. Another thing and I\'ve always said it, MS needs to secure big titles like Halo, KoToR and Fable for the Xbox only. Don\'t give people a reason to wait for the PC version, if they want to play it, make it only for the XBox. Will this happen? No. Why? Because either way MS makes money. Buy it for the Xbox, MS makes money. Buy it for the PC? MS makes money. It however, in my opinion has been the hurdle for MS and it looks like now they are just goin\' to ignore it altogether and bond them even closer together.

I don\'t agree with the Xbox only titles. Sure have some xbox only titles, but it\'s pretty unfair to pc users to have to go out and buy a xbox for a game which could easily be on pc. Even more so when these games like KOTOR, Halo etc are more pc orientated in game play then consoles, being the mouse and keyboard combo is far easier to use then a control pad. The type of games that should be console exclusive are the ones that started on consoles, not pcs. That being anything other then 3rd person / FPS games. Fighters, Racers, Sports wack em on consoles have some exclusive, but 3rd person and fps games is just going way to far.
M$ aren\'t stupid, they know theres a MASSIVE pc market, if they turn there back on pc gamers (when the fps / 3rd person genre started on pc) they\'d lose a lot of respect (what little they have)
If anyone shouldn\'t be getting this type of genre. Its consoles, not pcs.
-
Pfft, those genres started in the arcades, Soully.
And yes it\'s unfair, but since when has M$ played fair? They want to sell more consoles, MAKE people! Yes!!
-
i guess xbox live subsciptions are flailing and they want some of the PC market too

example? btw, i\'m talking genre here, not stand alones. From what i know, Wolfenstein 3D was what started the FPS Genre, google search confirms it.

My take on it is that the market is big enough to have both the pc and console market, ms is just trying to merge the two so both audiences can play together and profit.
I mean, how cool is it for the FFXI players to have the option of pc or PS2...and they play together!
I don\'t share your concern, LIC, about the PC mentallity and I honestly don\'t see why it\'s an issue. More functionallity and accessability from my console, erm...why not?

I think they got their feedback on Xbox Live being a Xbox only network and reacted. Square comes to mind when they said that XNA was of definite interest however they did not share the idea of a closed network. I suppose Xbox Live will still be closed down to anyone but Xbox2 and Windows owners but that\'s a good sized audience right there.

They gave in to EA which ran Burnout 3 on their own servers for the first Xbox Live game. Problem is, the service sucked, the support sucked... it was a big joke. Not sure if they fixed all the problems but I hope they learned their lesson.
-
wolf3d did not start the fps genre, there were several others before it
wolf3d brought it mainstream

On EA\'s servers? I guess MS didn\'t want to scare them away.
-
Yea they struck a deal didn\'t you hear? Not sure of the details but I guess MS gave them a slice of the LIVE! pie provided they host EA traffic on their own servers.

3 different sites saying the same thing. It wasn\'t until wolfenstein that the genre got its name...
-
but it did not start it, like you said
-
It started the genre... The games before it weren\'t known as FPS..
u starting to understand. There wasn\'t a genre name for these games until wolfenstein came out, it was because of wolfenstein the fps games became a genre.
