Title: NBA 2k5
Post by: theomen on October 01, 2004, 06:32:53 PM
anyone pick this up, so far I\'m a bit frustrated as I\'m playing on allstar and it seems a bit cheap on the ability of cpu players vs my team, but other than that, it\'s pretty impressive....It\'s cheating I tell ya

I was wanting to pick up a NBA game but cant figure out what to get. I played NBA Live 2004, beat the hell out of that. I was looking for a game that relies more on outside shooting than driving to the lane like Live.

well, so far I\'ve found in NBA2k5, driving is damn hard.  However, the damn cpu will not take a single shot out of the key, it\'s driving me frick\'n nuts.

I have NBA Live 2005.  Mind you I bought ESPN NBA 2k4 and played NBA Live 2004 very sparingly, but Live is sweet.  Improved spacing and midrange game. A lot of fun to play.

well, I\'ve had it....It\'s going on ebay.  I can\'t stand the lack of jumpers from the cpu.

whoopee would have been better.

Anyways, my impressions of live so far;

Dunk contest is fun, but not the greatest addition to a sports game it\'s pushed as.  Gameplay is great, the players hit mid range J\'s, as well as 3\'s and dunks etc...  I still have to get used to the controls though, but so far it\'s pretty fun.

put the price up to $39 and maybe people will snatch it up.  i\'m pro 2k5 just because i get a better gaming experience than i did when i rented live.  aside from a few fun things, i thought live was shallow and didn\'t look at hot as 2k5.  2k5 just plays and looks better and has some killer movement.  also the soundtrack kicks my a$$

plays better?  Quite funny fanboy.  Just look at what your own people say about how bad the control and feel is over at operation sports.  Isocraption feels like.... crap.  Graphics and presentation, NBA 2k5 gets an A, gameplay... kind of like hitting the sleep button on your alarm in the morning.

^^
TRUE

Presentation is great, but the game is just not fun to me.  And the fact that Shaq plays like he\'s Dirk Novitzki doesn\'t help.  However, I will admit that Live has already gotten boring for me, I wish they could make a NBA game that is on the same level as the current NFL games, but Live is the best basketball game this year.

i have to disagree, squaremaker. i think 2k5 has it all over live when it comes to gameplay. i played my brothers copy of live and i found to be frustratingly sluggish with only semi decent player control. also the environment just didn\'t seem real. i was skeptical about picking up a game that cost LESS than live, because i figured that was step in the wrong direction, but imagine my surprise when it turned out that the cheaper game is actually the better one. 2k5 just has better graphics and more fluid player movement. the game plays and looks better and that\'s pretty important to me in a bball sim. live is still not bad, but for 50 bucks "not bad" just doesn\'t cut it.

bandit -

that may be quite try about the Live feeling sluggish because I know what you are talking about.  NBA 2k5 does feel a lot smoother but I just can not take isomotion^2 or the momentum that carries you to shoot ever shot offbalance.   It is just an annoyance on my behalf.  I suppose it is all a matter of preference.  Live may feel a bit sluggish at first but I would take freestyle over isomotion anyday, plus, I like Live\'s post game a lot.

s**t i never bought any of this current generations b-ball games,..for the simple fact that it seems both companies can\'t get it right...this was tru even in last generation...like omen stated why can\'t they polish these games like they do the football joints?

i was really hoping 2k5 was going to be good this year, but i read in a review that shaq takes shots from the outside like 80% of the time   that\'s just not good programming..take that extra time time to polish specific players as to how they really play in the game,..it\'s probably hard work, but seein shaq do s**t like that, regardless of how pretty the game is, is just a let down...

clips, I wouldn\'t read IGNs review of NBA2k5.  It is a very bias review, read over gamespots instead.  I have played the game and several with and against Shaq and he rarely is outside.  He is setting a pick of he is almost 90% of the time.

you took the words right outa my mouth square..that\'s were i read the review...thanks for the comment and i feel little more reassuring of it now...i\'ve seen vid of it and it looks like it moves really smooth...i also like that 24/7 aspect of it too...also helps that it\'s 20 bucks as well...

yeah the reviewer at ign and i don\'t exactly see eye to eye on 2k5. i agree with him on some points, but on stuff like the shaq thing, that just doesn\'t phase me at all. likewise isomotion doesn\'t bother me, though i think it does take a little getting used to.  all in all i give the nod to 2k5 just because of the smoother gameplay and player control. i don\'t wanna knock live, because i\'ve played it and it\'s okay, but it just seems to me that 2k5 takes the cake this time out.

Live is the better sim and that is what I prefer.  I enjoy this years live so much more. Sega BBall always has that arcade fill to it. And plus I can\'t stand *sucko-motion*.

i think you got the games flipped, Qud.  live is frankly as arcadey as a game can get.   and i\'m sure you can come up with a better ISOmotion name than that.  it was uninspired.  good luck with the dunk contest.  when you want to play a hardcore basketball sim go back to 2k5.

I don\'t have it but I hear good things

I got up on espn 2k4 after listen to you last time clips so I may get up on this one.
