Title: nVidia users: Leaked Forceware drivers
Post by: THX on October 03, 2004, 02:21:14 AM
For some reason I only seem to use the official ones posted on their site but it\'s still at 61.77 and now there is 66.81 floating out there now.  And apparently there is a noticeable difference:

Taken from OSNN.net, tests w/6800U
Half-life 2 VST @ 1280x960 AA2 AF2:
61.77 - 45.345448 fps
66.02 - 72.021233 fps

Everyone sticking with the official releases?  If not here\'s this:

Well, I am not switching from 61.77 until they officially release new drivers. The performance gain looks real good though :bounce:

I\'m sure around the time HL2 releases Nvidia will have drivers to download which\'ll prove the 6800\'s are good at more than just one game (Doom3).

Any new info about new games on the shadermodel3.0 list btw ?

I don\'t think Nvidia really needs to worry about proving anything for a few reasons.

(1) For the most part, the people excited about DOOM 3 are not the same group of gamers excited by HL2. They are both different FPS.

(2) I am sure with some better drivers released near HL2 it will be almost as good as ATI\'s. Probably not as quite due to Valve\'s love and dediction to ATI. (:D)

(3) The extra pipes and SM 3.0 will make Nvidia\'s newest card the more future proof one.

I will be buying a 6800Ultra come next week , I\'ll keep everyone posted on what I think of it.

Wow

Not happy with your vanilla 6800?  Or was that just your hold over card?  I\'m still getting a 6800 GT in a few weeks... although my funds are getting close to where an Ultra could be a possiblity.  Which brand are you looking at?

Your assertion that polarizes Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 fans as nVidia and ATi fans (respectively) is pretty silly, LiC.

Anybody in their right mind would want the best of both worlds, given that it\'s more about the API\'s than the games themselves.

Well, obviously. Hehe.. I just thought your comment was a little weird.
