Title: The recommend a song thread.
Post by: Living-In-Clip on October 04, 2004, 04:30:17 AM
Alright - recommend a song to your other posters. It\'s fairly simple. You recommend it and if someone checks it out, they post what they thought of it.

Please do not discuss piracy. You can download the files if you want - but do not discuss it. We will all just assume you all are using legit MP3 services.

;)

Recommended :

A Perfect Circle - Imagine (iTunes store has it).

Cradle of Filth - Nyphetamine.

Grr! I have yet to hear Imagine! My friend told me it\'s great, and quite different. I\'ll get it tomorrow!

My recommendation:

Jeff Buckley - Mojo Pin

I just recently picked up the Legacy Edition of Grace, which features Grace, fully remastered, a bonus disc featuring some previously unreleased tracks (Forget Her [I think it\'s called] is a great, never-before heard song on this disc) and a DVD featuring an extended Making-Of documentary, and his video-clips.

For anyone who is a fan, I would highly recommend this album. Or anyone who is open enough to listen to an album with a lot of broad and varied inspiration, from a musicion with a maturity years ahead of himself and a voice so haunting and passionate it\'s enough to make you cry.. buy it now.

Didnt the video for this one just come out? I swear ive seen it. Maybe im getting my song names mixed up. Not too bad, though im not a huge CoF fan - really have to be in the mood for them.

Ill recommend a song later, but right now the recommendation to review ratio is uneven (as silly as that may sound).

Can I reccomend a whole CD?

Recently, Travis Morrison released his first solo album. Travis is the former lead singer of The Dismemberment Plan. I\'ve been patiently awaiting this for a while, and it sohuld be arriving at my house via mail tommorow.

But, for now, take a listen at this MP3 clip of the song entitled "Change" (which is also the name of one Dismemberment Plans better albums)

The Sheer - \'Something to Say\' or \'Right Now\'

check it out at The Sheer website (http://www.thesheer.nl)

It\'s a young Dutch band. Little bit like the Beatles imo. Maybe more sweet.

Well these threads are basically about advising people of a song that you love that they might not have otherwise come across..

I fail to see how it\'s not working.

In the past I haven\'t agreed with your taste in games/movies...or 90% of the things thats been talked about on this board.

but you taste in music is excellent :)

anyways I recomend Gary Jules - Mad World

for anyone whos seen Donnie Darko, it plays at the very end of the movie.

Having just optained APC\'s Imagine cover through a generous soul who shall remain nameless due to international copyright law I must say I\'m a bit dissappointed.

Don\'t get me wrong, the song is good and better done then most of the shyte out there, but I was just hoping that Maynard would display some of his vocal range with this song, but he kinda just mumbles though it IMO.

Anyhoo, I\'m in class I\'ll post some songs later.

toodles.

I agree to an extend, but I also love the piano / bass line and everything else. Still, if he showed a bit more range it would of been better.

By the way - I hope no one on this board pointed you to the MP3.
Thieving bastards.

Isn\'t that the song from Donnie Darko?

And how did my first post split into 2?

It plays at the end of Donnie Darko as the camera glides over every character from the movie.

The only part of the song that mildly pulls me out of the mood is the chorus
"You may say i\'m a dreamer, but i\'m not the only one"

However I still luv the song, been listening to it like its religon since I got it.

anyone know the date release for Emotive?

Nov.3rd, I do believe, I will double check later and edit if I am wrong.

As far as "Imagine", I am a huge John Lennon fan and cringe at the thought of almost anyone covering such a classic song. Still, I love what APC done with it, tho I think Maynard should of shown more vocal range during the chorus.

Unknown - I think the best BT was
"Blue Skies" with Tori Amos doing vocals.

Further looking, it does indeed come out on election day and here is a track listing.

Quote
01 - "Annihilation" (Crucifix Cover)
02 - "Imagine" (John Lennon Cover)
03 - "(What\'s So Funny \'Bout) Peace Love And Understanding" (Elvis Costello Cover)
04 - "Counting Bodies Like Sheep To The Rhythm Of The War Drums"
05 - "What\'s Going On" (Marvin Gaye Cover)
06 - "When The Levee Breaks" (Memphis Minnie Cover)
07 - "Freedom Of Choice" (Devo Cover)
08 - "People Are People" (Depeche Mode Cover)
09 - "Passive"
10 - "Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie" (Black Flag Cover)
11 - "Let\'s Have A War" (Fear Cover)
12 - "Fiddle And The Drum" (Joni Mitchell Cover)

All I know, as a big Depeche Mode fan and big APC fan, I can\'t wait to hear their cover of "People are People" (though I would rather hear a cover of "Blasphmerous Rumours").

BT\'s version of Blue Skies is the shit. I was playing it yesterday. But i dont think its the best BT. I dont know if i would even put it in the top tier. Its classic BT, and still good BT but not my favorite.

Though im sure id get slapped for saying Kimosabe was one of his best :p. Too many BT songs.

Blue Skies
&
Kimosabe

classics

Whats your opnion of Marilyn Mansons cover of Personal Jesus?and thx for the date :)

I hate it. Manson didn\'t really take any time to make that song his own, he just made it a rock  song instead of a pop song, that\'s all. Then again, as a DM fan, Personal jesus is my least favorite tune anyways.
