Stole LIC\'s idea and altered it to be cooler, since I\'m better than LIC in every possible way and all.
Run Lola Run
Great German movie, I\'d give you a rundown of it, but it\'s a hard movie to explain without spoilers, but it\'s a must see.
-
Station Agent - Indy film fun
-
Naked Lunch, it has Robocop in it
-
Legally Blonde
-
I have to be the resident pecimist (of course we all know that really isnt me) but i can see this going in the direction of the recommend a song thread really fast.
-
There was a recommend a movie thread just a couple of weeks ago, wasn\'t there?
I said Chopper last time, and I\'ll say it again. If you get past the fact that it\'s very 80\'s and very Australian (an intimidating combination for you foreigners) it\'s an incredible movie.
-
I\'m just trying to chose movies that were crap :)
-
That\'s because you\'re crap.
...
-
there may have been a similar thread, but this one is far better because I started it, so end of discussion.
Another movie; Fog of War
if you can watch documentaries this one kicks ass, about Robert Macnamara and his role in the US govt back in the old days (WWII and Vietnam)
-
Boondock Saints - Boston based violence.
Bad Santa - Just because.
-
Since the purpose of this thread is to recommend films that many people have probably not seen, I will recommend a couple that meet that requirement and are also very good.
The Killing (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0049406/) was one of Stanley Kubrick\'s earliest films, and it is truly amazing.
Year of the Dragon (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090350/) was a stunning chinese crime drama directed by Michael Cimino in the 80\'s. It was supposed to be Cimino\'s comeback picture after the disaster of Heaven\'s Gate (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080855/), which by the way was also a fascinating film in it\'s own right.
Anyone who hasn\'t seen Billy Wilder\'s The Apartment (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0053604/) (Best Picture, 1961) has been leading a wasted life. "Staaaaayyy with it, Buddy Boy!"

Boondock Saints, good pick

I stongly suggest everyone go see "Saw" when it comes out.
looks to be very intense and so far i\'ve heard good things about it.
I also reccomend "Irreversible" staring Monica Belluci and Vincent Cassel, its a french movie so theres sub-titles. Be warned tho, the violence is intense and the 10 minute rape scene is hard to sit through.
also another french film "Brotherhood Of The Wolf" is good.
and I recently watched "Thirteen" which was pretty good also.
-
The Big Lebowski!

Loved it as well. After watching it i had this urge to run for miles :bounce:
Anyway, I suggest "Captive" . Hmmm, it\'s a 60\'s or 70\'s sci-fi thriller about humanlooking aliens who keep some humans captive in some forest cabin. Quite tense stuff.

Long Kiss Goodnight...
That was my video store sleeper alltough would have been better if she would have said bettlejuice just one time.

I\'ve seen this before and I agree. I think it\'s amazing. I wouldn\'t have thought so but my ex-girlfriends sister recommended it with the subtitles and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Agreed. I love this movie. After seeing that, it opened my eyes. I mean Gena Davis as an action star is the last think you think of when thinking about her.
I was actually listening to Santana\'s version of "shes not there" - It was playing when she changed her hair etc.
Good movie if you ask me.
-
Well i have two to suggest
Equilibrium - not sure on spelling there pretty good flick that a lot of people i know havent seen - action sci fi - pretty fun
Donnie Darko - very cool flick

Who was it that recommended "Night of the Comet" in a thread a while ago?
I tivo\'d that movie and burned it to dvd.
Now, I\'d like to send the person who recommended it a copy.... with some anthrax.
There should be a law against zombie movies that have "Girls just want to have fun" in the soundtrack.
Let me ruin the movie for everyone....
A comet passes by earth... everyone dies or turns into a zombie except a few people... some teenage girls go on a shopping spree to celebrate... The end. (cue Cindy Lopper song)

I was not the one who recommended Night of the Comet, but let me just make one little statement about it.
It does suck. Hard. However, many of the scenes were filmed in the streets surrounding my building in downtown Los Angeles. The final scene at the end, where Chakotay throws the guns into the trash can, and the annoying chick is almost run over by a preppy dude in a Mercedes was filmed in the plaza right across the street; right next to the BP tower. I eat lunch in that area almost every day.
So anyway, it\'s weird for me to watch that film for that reason alone.
-
Equilibrium - one badass flick. My friend Sean showed it to me before school got going, and it was a pretty interesting flick. Too bad the chick that the main character keeps seeing looks like hell.
See Yuz.

Note: the humour might be lost on those who haven\'t spent any discernable time in the presence of rural Canadian heshers.

that kind of looks like cd packaging is that a movie?

Yeah, I was hoping no one would notice; it\'s the soundtrack, but it is nearly identical to the DVD cover. I was having troubles with the original image after it was posted, so this had to suffice for a quick fix.

City of God - A bananas movie about a ghetto in Brazil known as the "City of God" and a young kid who wants to be a photographer. Crazy violent and scary to know that it is based on a true story.

Damn, I was going to recomend that.
Oh well I can second that reccomendation.
If you liked Run, Lola Run, you might like Memento.
It has a weird timeline but is an excellent movie.
In the theaters right now is a Zombie movie spoof, Shawn of the Dead and it is pretty funny.
Well worth matinee price.

Equilibrium
Naked Lunch
Man Bite Dog
Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas
Audition
Cannibal Ferox
Last House on the Left
Lady Snowblood
Any of the Zatoichi films.
I own Samurai Fiction, but have yet to watch it.

a new addition
Full Time Killer- Hong Kong movie, with a good story and good acting. Doesn\'t rely on super action scenes, but is instead story driven.
-
Eraserhead- David Lynch\'s masterpiece. I suggest some mushrooms and a deadbolt.
Fire Walk With Me. also Lynch...hell watch the whole Twin Peaks thing, including the Pilot...
