Title: So what does it mean now that Bush is still President?
Post by: THX on November 03, 2004, 12:26:39 PM
I see a ton of overly dramatic people here and there that thinks the country is going to hell in a handbasket since Bush was re-elected.  I came up with some predictions and posed some questions just so people can analyze a Bush supporter\'s take on it.

Q. Will Bush attack another country during his presidency?
A. No.  The only way this will happen is if we get attacked first.  You could say he learned his “lesson” with Iraq and it almost cost him the election.

Q. Knowing what we know now would Bush have invaded Iraq?
A. Probably.  His cabinet just would have come up with a different reason.  After 9/11 the priority of his presidency was to keep America safe.  What we do know is that Iraq isn’t particularly liked among other middle eastern nations, Saddam pays the families of dead terrorists $25k, he has a past of invading other nations purely for personal profit, and he himself terrorizes his own people.  We also know there have been ZERO terrorist attacks on American soil after September 11, 2001.

Q. But don’t you know Americans are dying?
A. Yes, that’s why it’s called war.  It’s a necessary evil (deepening on who you talk to) that takes the lives of good men and women, but it has happened all throughout history.  Why would this war be any different?

Q. Is Bush a dumb guy?
A. Of course not.  A Yale grad with political and military experience under his belt.  He is NOT a good public speaker, he admitted that 2 days ago in Ohio (blamed it on his Dad :P).  What we have is a sheltered rich guy who’s out of touch with the people and is used to yucking it up with his buddies at the country club.  The same goes for Kerry here but he’s a much better public speaker.

Q. Will Bush be known as the worst president of the 21st century?
A. During his presidency, half of America thought Reagan was a loon.  He wanted to start up a missle defense program called “Star Wars” which involved lasers and other futuristic inventions.  Well here we are after his death and he is remembered as one of the greatest and most idealistic presidents of our time.  I believe the bitterness will pass later on in life and Bush will be remembered for his 9/11 speech and how he kept America safe.

Q. Is it Bush’s fault that unemployment is lower than Clinton’s presidency?
A. Maybe, but don’t forget about the dot com bubble bursting, 9/11, and the airline and travel industry suffering greatly.  Now we’re bouncing back but people still seem to believe (or want to) that our economy is in shambles.

Q. Will Bush start up a military draft?
A. No I don’t believe so.

Q. Was it a war for oil?
A. I pay $2.15 a gallon for premium and before the war I remember it was under $1.50.  I also haven’t noticed a huge trans-atlantic pipe on the east coast coming from Baghdad, but I’ll let you know if I spot one.

Q. Is Bush a changed person after hearing close to half the people speak in the election?
A. Yes.  His cabinet will definitely think three times before invading another country, which many seem to think was a huge mistake and we should have just let Saddam stay in power to be dealt with at a later time.  I think the rest of his term will be a quiet one with a steady incline in the economy, military/intel support, and the standard of living.

I did, go on and make fun of me.  ;]  I saw a lot of people that are really scared that Bush is elected again and to be honest I think it\'s silly.

And what makes you think Kerry was going to be the best thing since sliced bread?

And that was a very intelligent response to all those common questions, THX. 20 Cool Points for you.

Oil prices have not dropping because the plan is a long term plan. The oil is not the main goal, but it is a side benifet. Bush proposed the domino theory for democracy in the middle east, which would result in lower oil prices and the minimization of OPEC\'s economic power.

I still think Bush is abusive of his power on the civil side, and he, like other war-time presidents has seemingly ignored the Bill of Rights.

And what would be so bad about that?  Doesn\'t it bother you that there\'s a handful of extremely wealthy oilmen in the mideast when 85% of the rest of their country live in 3rd world conditions?  Democracy gives the power to the people, choosing where the money goes to, not a single dictator like unohoo.

No, it bothers me that this was probley taken into consideration when deciding if this war was worth-while.

No I don\'t think anyone is saying Kerry is all that. But what they are saying is things have not been good the last 4 years. And a what did the american people rewards us with four more years of hell. If things change I would gladly back my president.

Well, it\'s not that hard to guess what 4 years with Bush in office will be like, considering we already lived through 4 years of that.

Prolly means little, actually, to a lot of people.  How much does it really end up affecting us all?
