Title: Foreign opinion
Post by: Eiksirf on November 03, 2004, 05:48:13 PM
Wondering what people who don\'t live here think of our election results...

Heh, if you have no opinion, that\'s cool - I don\'t follow what goes on where you live, either. ;]

Most of the world hates the U.S. period... I highly doubt Kerry would have made even a dent in foreign relations.

I think he would of, because a fundemental reason the foreign relations is in shambles is because Bush is a loner, it\'s his personality. Not only that, but the war in Iraq and the fact we ignored the UN  makes other countries worried. If we are going to go on our own and ignore the UN and what they recommend, why should those countries be our active allies? There is no reason.

I am not saying Kerry would of been a magical ticket that would of lead America back to its hey-day where all the countries adored us, but I do think it would of been a step in the right direction. At the very least, we can be safely assume that with Bush in office, we will see more of the same.

heh. u know at one point I thought the US citizenry were smarter than this, but I guess the average is a little lower than I thought. certainly if bush were john howard, the liberals+nats would\'ve been kicked out of parliament faster than you can say streuth(SP!). I mean jesus, massive job losses, huge budget hole, a fudged up war? he shouldn\'t even have been in contention.

Nah I don\'t think that\'s an accurate assessment. But Bush Jr. himself certainly is disliked around the globe. :)

Its no secret most of the world wanted to see Kerry as the new president.

The opinion in sweden from all but one party leader (six out of seven) wanted to see Kerry become the president. Now thats not gonna happen, but the EU is still interested in "rebuilding" our friendship.

I personally think America probably has missed a guy that could have been a great president when it comes to both national and international affairs.

I talked to a guy from Iran today, he does not like Bush one bit, and he is convinced we will see a WW3. He said the situation in Iraq will spread into Iran, Turkey, Israel etc. He also said if anyone would mess with Iran they will use all the weapons at their disposal to take as many enemies with them as possible, even if it takes nukes, they already have the capability to strike at Israel. He "promised" this, so I dunno..

Personally I think Bush has learned his lesson, I think he will calm down, I hope he will try to make a positive footprint in history.

There is also a popular school of thought in Mexico that we stole their land ie. the southwestern US.

I guess going to war and getting your ass kicked and having your capital occupied is stealing.

Israel seems to favor both Bush and the US the most...

For myself, honestly it didn\'t bother me too much. I don\'t particularly care for Bush, but I know that Kerry didn\'t look like a good alternative to me. His plans for getting more help from outside countries seemed extremely shaky and, most likely, he would have asked for more troops (and special forces) to be sent from Australia. That is not something that I would want to happen.

That\'s not to say that I was hoping Bush would win again, as that\'s not really the case. But from my viewpoint, it seemed like a lesser of two evils situation, as opposed to who would be the better man to run the country.

Mainly coz they battle terrorism every day and that the US supplies them with arms and ammo. Also satellite info that\'s crucial for their defense/offense.

Its not?

Why would that NOT be considered stealing? I always thought taking something that was not yours is stealing?

/Off to "occupy" a new car.

It\'s too bad we can\'t see what the world would look like in 20 years if Bush didn\'t do what he did.

These pussy assed Euros might rethink their vote.

PS: I\'m glad I live here in the US where we don\'t really care what they hell people think of us.  As long as we don\'t have car bombs and shit here I don\'t really care what a Frenchy thinks.  Let him deal with the bombs.

Chances are, Kerry would place limits on trade with other nations including it\'s largest trading partner, Canada. This was the general conclusion most analysts came to. Thus, hurting our economy while improving their own. The Bush family on the other hand has done great things with trade in regards to us. You\'d think W would be a clear winner for us...but everyone I speak with on the matter doesn\'t think so.

Bush was given the election with 9-11, then he made a critical error in going to war with Iraq and wasting billions upon billions of dollars thereby giving the democrats a good chance of winning. I don\'t think the economy is as bad as some make it out to be there, but please.  Fix one country before moving to the next.

I think America should always remain the dominant power in the world, but with someone who constantly ignores foreign opinion it doesn\'t work. Better to trust the devil we know than the devil we know? Not this devil...

It accually isn\'t stealing because us getting that land was part of a treaty that they signed. So, they accually gave us the land. I think.

Correct - they lost the war and it was part of the treaty.  Now they send illegal invaders here to squat on that territory. ;)
