It\'s tough to top the current crop of established action games with a brand new franchise, but that hasn\'t stopped Sony and developer Guerilla from trying with Killzone, a new story-driven first-person shooter developed for the PlayStation 2. The game features a fairly lengthy single-player campaign, an interesting story and art direction, and a fully developed online multiplayer mode. But Killzone\'s recipe for success falls flat once you actually delve into the game, where you\'ll encounter an array of minor technical issues and an unfortunate lack of overall refinement. It\'s a functional shooter, but with a couple of extra coats of paint, it could have been a whole lot better.

...Ivan, from ign, is going to be receiving some apology letters.;)
EDIT: Killzone received a 6.9

after playing 10 minutes of NAM \'67 all hopes for Killzone went down the tubes. So i\'m not terribly shocked that it\'s not that great.

Thanks for the update. MakaveliUK you got some explaining to do. ;)

*wipes tears*
Oh well, Im about 10 minutes away from playing Killzone, on my television 3 meters behind me. :)
I will come back with some highly bias impressions just for you LIC (min kuk :D ).

Ok, I have played the demo for about 5 minutes in a game store.
Slums level, as Luger.
Graphics look good. When you play in front of the demo pod the game looks a bit jaggie ; but since ppl don\'t play 2 feet away from their tv screens at home, I guess it\'ll look better.
Controls felt a bit clunky. Certainly wasn\'t as smooth as GoldenEye 007. Beh...maybe I\'m taking that game too much as a reference point when it comes to console fps\'s.
You have to go through the menu options using the D-pad btw ; Analog sticks didn\'t work in menu\'s. Kinda sucky.
Framerate felt ok. Maybe me not being used to the controls stood a bit in the way to get a good feeling of the framerate, but it was certainly NOT bad.
If the USA Killzone code was like this demo I can slightly imagine why they gave it a 7.5 Of course, my 5 minutes playing this demo isn\'t very indicative of the final game. It\'s due on 26th of November here in the Netherlands, not 3rd December like I thought at first.

Some short impressions just for you, my love, my life, my LIC. :)
I have joined up with Hakka (sp?), the Helghast spy, so now the team consists of four members working their way through the maps.
Anyway, IGN complained about the framerate, sure its 30fps but really, its quite stable! So far I have not seen one place where it hinders the gameplay. If you are wondering, yes it has been improved over the demo.
The LOD engine is buggy yes, one time I ran up to one of the guys fighting on my side, I was standing 1 meter away from him and he had this far away LOD model, so when he talked it looked like he was wearing a hood.. Quite funny, but it changed to the high res one after 1 second. But this has only happened once, you do notice how the Helghast models change though, nothing major but its visible.
The AI, it varies a lot, so far the team mate AI has been nothing to write home about, but I have noticed an improvement in the last level (three episodes). The enemy AI is so so, they are masters at taking cover, they react to gun fire and sound, but they are no Einstein.
The graphics are IMO, excellent for a PS2 FPS. Some maps look better than others, the one I am on now (docks) looks especially good, with lots of grass, open areas and structures. The draw distance is different from map to map, no where close to far cry, but still quite OK.
The weapon design is especially good with good sound (supports surround too, I’ll be able to check that out in a few weeks when I get my 5.1 system :) ), I wish they had recorded some more comment audio for the friendly bots, as their comments can get tiresome.
I don’t have a NTSC PS2, so I cant check out the Online Multiplayer, I have played it against bots though, from not caring at all about the multiplayer I have moved towards very interested, it seems fun with a lot of modes available.
Those are my highly bias “sucking off Sony” impressions, I hope you enjoyed them. :)
Right now KZ gets a 8/10 from me. I can grab pictures if anyone wishes to see more of Killzone.

:sconf:
???
The online beta sold me on this game alone and the demo was enjoyable, so if the single player game follows the demo it\'ll suit me right down to the ground. But the online multi-player is so good this alone warrants an instant purchase (https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.psx2central.com%2Fforums%2Fimages%2Fsmilies%2Fwink.gif&hash=a94da21c94eaaf7922673e51e38a4f71d6f0217b).
It\'s so much better then the Socom games online. Killzone has zero lag (in my experience) with crystal clear voice chat, great maps and modes, and bundles of fun. :D

I am sorry but I give no respect to any game that so obviously rips off a classic anime such as Jin-Roh. Infact, I am not sure how Sony is getting away without being sued! The suits of the soliders are friggin\' identical.
Oh and Faston, we expected you to find a way to like it. You are after all a Sony whore.
;)
I however will take the reviews of an established site more seriously than that of someone who always finds a way to enjoy a Sony first party / second party title. The very fact that two sites back up that the game is a letdown, is enough for me to go, "haha, told ya\' so!".
