Title: IGN reviews Jak 3

Every so often a game comes around that\'s right and it makes me remember. It\'s a game that makes piles of other lesser games very, very wrong. There are precious few words that can so accurately describe this "correct" product in its entirety, but there are plenty to describe individual parts of it. Jak 3 is right, but if you dig through your lexicon you can easily break the game down into chunks of gorgeous, wonderful, fun, slick, polished, tight, balanced, well-produced, hilarious, intense, diverse, and wondrous... Buy it or die.

Presentation - 9.5
No loading is the coolest gaming feature ever devised and the secrets are definitely worth unlocking. Jak 3 also has the sweetest sewer level videogaming has ever seen.

Graphics - 10
As good as it gets. Most other games utterly suck in comparison even if they happen to look "good."

Sound - 8.5
Perfectly appropriate voices, as was expected, but the music sometimes wavers. Generally outstanding, nonetheless.

Gameplay - 9.5
Challenging but not frustrating, Jak 3 is a brilliant action / platformer with a huge variety of play types.

Lasting Appeal - 7.5
You\'ll definitely beat the game twice, but the secrets aren\'t enough to keep the PS2 working for more than a week or two.

Overall - 9.6

It seems the game is still tough as the reviewer said he\'s died numerous times through the game, but he also goes to say it\'s one of the best games he\'s played...and one of the best looking this generation.

I didn’t need a review to tell me this game would be great, I could tell it was something special just by looking at PlayFrance\'s numerous gameplay vids. :)

http://www.playfrance.com

I\'ll preorder mine shortly, when is it coming out in the US btw?

Never played JakII though i played Jak and Daxter and i loved that. The trailers for this one look pretty good. I was worried that the reviews for this one were going to be not all that hot. I hear its not that much when compared to the new R&C.

With all the big titles coming out i dont know how ill have time to play any of these. School and Killer apps (more or less) just dont work out right.

Why is it if it\'s a Mario game I\'ll eat it up but if it\'s this guy I can\'t get into it?  I guess I have to play it but funny how that works.

Same problem. I love Mario, but for some reason none of the Jak and Daxter games have appealed to me in the least. Thought the first was medicore at best... Which really is sad, as I love Naughty Dog (Crash was a great series..).

I always liked R&C a lot more than Jak.

Mario I\'ve never liked though.

After mario 3 the only mario game i liked was mario 64.

I liked the first Jak and Daxter and the second Rachet and Clank. The other games in those two series i never played.

That\'s pretty much the EXACT same way I feel...and I\'ve only played the first Jak and the second Ratchet too...*weirdness*

Plan on getting Up Your Arsenal though. I heard Jak 3 isn\'t much of a challenge, and I like a challenge, so I don\'t know about this one.

Gamespot reviews Jak 3 (http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/action/jakanddaxteriii/review.html)

Overall - 8.6

Like its predecessor, Jak 3 is quite a hard game, but not in a particularly cheap or unfair way. Finishing a mission on the first try is rare, as obstacles and enemies are often thrown at you faster than you can reasonably react. But once you\'ve got the pattern or layout of a mission down, you\'ll typically be able to master it after a few tries.

I\'ve officially lost interest.  Having to memorize a scenario just to pass it is cheap, imho, it ruined Jak II.  If it weren\'t for the fact that a friend is picking it up tomorrow I probably wouldn\'t bother with it.

I liked Jak 2 but  the Jak 3 demo on the new OPS2 mag is crap, so was the Ratchet and Clank 3 one they had on a earlier disc.

Why would you even bother bringing Fable up?  I sure didn\'t, but if you want to draw any kind of comparisons...

All the reviews I\'ve read thus far have said you can get through Jak 3 in 10-15 hours.  Seeing as how this is a difficult game it seems as though the length of the game is depending on how many times it takes you to memorize a scenario...that\'s piss poor, imho.

It doesn\'t need to be too easy or too hard, the entire Ratchet and Clank series managed to find that perfect balance to be entirely enjoyable while a bit challenging at times, but never does the game rely on your knowledge of the scripted event.

Dumbass.
Honestly, what does Fable have to do with this? It isn\'t the same genre, the same developer or even the same friggin\' console.
Give it a break.

sorry but the only reason why i brought fable up was because the carter bro\'s quoted that they wanted the game level on a par with joe public... hence the ease of play.

and ease of play + very short story = sad faces all round.

Its nice to have games to challange you. or the ability for you to select how hard it going to be.

easy
normal
Hard
Nightmare

etc...

Jak 2 was just about right for me.

personally they could of either made it slightly easyer and longer... (to stop people moaning about "how hard it was")

or

the same level (for normal)but with the option to tone down(easy mode) the Or ramp up(hard mode) the Difficulty.

one of the things i loved about games like doom... finish it on normal or hard... then go back and play it on nightmare and its like a entire new game.

anyone who has played diablo 2 on HELL will know what i am talking about.

other games (not going to name them) please take note.

Its not hard to ad a simple feature that increases the AI\'\'s intelligence or numbers to a game or limits the players items and abilitys.

I have Jak 3 and it is a great game. It is challenging but I would rather have a game that tests me than just walking all over it. The graphics are alot better than Jak 2. The story line is pretty decent as I can tell. The new weapons are pretty neat and I am digging the new light eco. Overall I really am into this game.

I played jak 1 and only got started on jak 2. it was stolen. :-(

but i may check this one out. the ragdoll physics things sounds cool for the better character movement. that is what always frustrated me. and playing dexter sounds pretty cool. i\'d rather buy than rent though. that\'s just me

I have played Jak 3 for about one hour, and its pretty good.. The new "city" area, umm.. I forgot what its called, anyway its where the outcasts live, it feels much more alive, people walking around and even small animals running around the streets. Remind yourself not to piss the people off, as they now carry arms, hit someone by mistake and he will shoot at you.

No hover cars either, they have been replaced by small reptile looking animals which you can ride.

You cant drive the dune buggy’s in the city, they are only available if you want to drive around in the HUGE desert. The physics of the dune buggy’s are quite good, I have had the pleasure to drive two of them, one a simple race model and the other a more powerful one with weapons. There are lots more available to unlock in the dune buggy depot.

Jak 3 has some of the best graphics I have seen, great lightning, great effects (you should see the sandstorms going in full force, its even better when the sandstorms stops and the sun rays start shining through the sand in the air).. The animations in the cut scenes are better than ever, and yes I have seen bump mapping.. Not only in the cut scenes but also in the game. You can observe it in the desert city by some of the buildings.. Metallic objects have a bump mapped surface.

The game running at a pretty stable 60fps, I have seen some screen tearing though, too bad they didn’t get rid of those. Still 60fps with tearing > 30fps.

I noticed you can trigger Dark Jak on and off whenever you will, so you are not forced to play as Dark Jak for as long as his powers last, like in Jak 2 (think of it as the boost in Burnout 2 versus Burnout 3).

So far Im liking it more than Jak 2.

Sounds good, navigating a hover vehicle through a crowded city like Haven was not fun.

How does the dune buggies with weapons work?  Does it have one seat for a driver, the other for a gunner?  Or do you control both?

Do you get all the dark powers you acquired in Jak 2, namely giant dark Jak?

How does this one compare in terms of difficulty?

You control both, its like shooting from the hovercars from Jak 2, the difference is the weapons are mounted on the buggy this time, so no switching.

They might be avalible later in the game, right now I just have the Dark Eco bomb and another.

From what I\'ve played (still early in the game) its easier.
They have eliminated a lot of the frustration, this one mission where you have to shoot down four or five big dinasaur looking animals (you might have seen this mission on one of the GameSpot vids), well of course my car exploded when there was just one more animal to kill.. I was sure I had to do all things again, but when my vehicle spawned I saw only one blip on the radar, so no need to redo everything.. So the game is easier in that way.

There seems to be a lot of racing going on, already I have done 3 different races (they have been easy though, compared to the high-blood-pressure-near-heartattack-annoying race in Jak 2)

I just played some more, the game is freaking awesome! It just feels a lot better then Jak 2.. The environments are really great looking, gone is the grey city (even though I liked it, Im glad its gone for now), instead its replaced by "stages" more close to nature, desert areas, desert mountains, lava areas (not as boring as it sounds :) )
The story is just getting interesting with a few cool things happening.

I just learned my first light Jak skill, after climbing a huge ass wall.. So there are many platform elements.

Right now, the game almost feels closer to Jak 1, perhaps just because of the very fun "missions" I have done, and the way I feel like Im exploring instead of just heading to point A and B. Also I think the characters are more interesting this time.

You must give this game a try Ginko, rent if or whatever, I am positive you will like it! :)

My friend brought over Jak 3, it\'s a great improvement over Jak 2.  I only got to see him play it for about an hour but I really liked what I had seen.  The different dune buggies are a nice addition, and I was happy about the checkpoints within missions, makes it so much less frustrating.  The leapers >>>>> hover cars.  Also, I love how much platform action there is, seems there is a good balance between that and action.  Oh, it also looks badass, best looking PS2 game I\'ve seen.

Just beat it.:)

I give it a 9.9

The ONLY gripes I have, and they are minor, is that the dune buggies don\'t handle as well as they could/should have, imo, and that the camera could have been a little more helpful(smarter).  Very small complaints that don\'t really hinder the game too much, only a few spots.

The story is neat.  The humor is great and well placed.  The graphics are superb.  The gameplay, for the most part, is very tight and so much fun.  The difficulty level has been toned down from Jak II(thank you Naughty Dog:D) plus there are well placed check points within each mission. The game is not easy by any means, but it\'s much more forgiving than Jak II, very enjoyable.

I want more...
