Title: Who else has TIVO?
Post by: MPTheory on November 08, 2004, 05:45:34 AM
I just ganked mine from my dad (cause he thought it was stupid).  I think hes getting to the age where electronics are scarry.

bonus for me :)

Anyways, Im having a small issue setting it up.  I had to reset the settings because I only have cable and my parents had satellite.  The problem is that when you setup for the first time, you cant use the ethernet connection.  You have to use phone line (as far as I can see).  well, we dont use a landline at our house.  we all have cell phones and we are all so busy, we decided to cancel the phoneline.  Is there some kind of hack or download that I can use to allow the tivo to setup using ethernet???

Here\'s the link to the Tivo site where it shows how to repeat the guided setup:

http://customersupport.tivo.com/knowbase/root/public/tv1196.htm?

Maybe you can hook it up to your neighbor\'s phone  line just for the setup.  Or take it to work one day and use their phone line.

Here\'s a forum of Tivo users:

Sorry that you have had so much trouble getting that thing set up.

I live like 45 minutes away from my parents, so  I dont want to go all the way back there for the setup.. Ill have to bring it to work or something.

This is a stand alone Tivo, to the DTivo or whatever they call it.

Thanks for the help last night J.  Too bad I still ran into this snag :(  I was looking forward to some tivoing :)

Thanks, G :D I\'m pretty damn tired of the whole VHS scene. The things I record look like a pile of cow fun, and then the tape gradually gets crappier with age. And then there\'s commercials. I must spend a lot of hours watching ads every week. Especially those hour-long shows. There\'s about 10-15 minutes of commercials in those. Meh.

Plus pausing live tv while I go take a leak sounds pretty cool.

*Can\'t Wait*

ReplayTV 5090.
Bypass commercials.
Pause live TV.
Network it with PC.
Convert shows / edit commercials out / author DVD\'s.
Online Scheduling.
Easy HD upgrade.
Dual HD setup.
Get a Replay 5090, screw the TIVO.

But still not as much as me, due to the fact I can simply network it to my PC (which I have) and the fact that I can easily put two 160 gig drives in it. That\'s the beatuy of the ReplayTV. Only wish they would get an HD version out.

I\'d take a 20 minute HD Tivo over a 20 hour SD tivo any day.  There is nothing more freaking cool than recording two shows in HD while watching another all on the same box.  Plus I have another 2 HD tuners as well.  :)

Meh, I\'ll just grab an AIW and use my half terabyte to store shit.  Then once another good HD deal comes along, I\'ll go with a full TB.  But I\'m just HTPC kinda guy....Off Topic, but Meedio + saving DVD\'s on your HD = GOD!

PFT, Jae asked me to record the O.C. for him... I laughed at him.

Its ok. It has its moments. I can definately see it appealing to a lot of the Adult Swim crowd.

Tivo makes watching TV almost like a game.

PS - the 30 second skip code is:

select,play,select,30,select

then the skip-to-hash button will skip forward 30 seconds during playback.
