I purchased the new PS2 over the past weekend. And it\'s shut down on me during gameplay twice now. What has happened is it will shut down and the red sleep mode light will flash. Now it has no fan and could be a serious problem with all of them. They become really hot after hours of gameplay. I called the place where I bought it and they told me to get in touch with Sony because they haven\'t heard of it yet. Now I\'m severly pissed off here because I just traded in my immaculate XBOX for this.
Has anyone faced this problem?
-
Take it back, don\'t let them give u a "call sony" bs. They\'re liable for the problem, its their job to send it to sony or call sony (whatever the f@#k they do)
take it back to the shop and show them the problem. If you bought it from them, they have to deal with it.
-
yes, any average store should replace it with a new one
-
Wait..
mm, did you just agree with Nathan?
-
Assuming the store you bought it at has a 30 day return policy then take it back there, if not I think you might have to take it to Sony unless you got a product replacement plan or whatever the hell they call that warranty they offer.
-
Did you buy an extra warranty on it? This is Sony we\'re talking about. I think Circuit City has the best warranty policies, I buy all my electronics there.

booby, he\'s really my love bytch... even clyde likes to join in.. You didn\'t know...
damn that monkey has talent.

Actually,
the new PStwo console DOES have a fan. It\'s totally concealed internally, so you probably can\'t see it.
Anyway, usual guidelines are of course to not place the console in some drawer or cupboard while playing. Never put it on a carpet.
Of course, I suggest you have the store replace it.
-
That\'s weird, I never thought it had a fan, either. There\'s no vent, right? I\'ll have to look. I hope you weren\'t kidding and then I\'m wasting my time, heh.
Solrac.
My PSTwo hasn\'t had any problems like that. Something like three hours straight of GTA is probably the max that I might have used it so far.

Yeah, some gamesite.... Gamespy I believe (not sure though), had pictures of the PStwo internals.
The fan is positioned parralel to the disc drive and it\'s very flat of course. It makes sense of course. No passive cooling heatsink would be effective/sufficient in that small cramped space.
-
*pats first shipment PS2 from 2000* Still running strong, except those disc read errors that involved me opening the damn thing. After I fixed the laser height, she worked like a dream :)
-
^^^^^
Same here...I\'ve had my PS2 forever, and nothing has gone wrong...except it just renectly stopped reading discs, so I bought one of those lens cleaners and now it works great.
-
1. *lol* @ Nathan
2. Where is Clyde ??? I miss that chimp ! ;)
3. I doubt that it is an overheating probl. because the powersupply is not inside the PS2... the CPU is only getting warm, but not hot !
-
Best way to fix this?
Cut a new spot for a 120MM fan.
Take out the old fan.
Hook up the big fan.
If that doesn\'t work, try cooling with dry ice.
You also need some bling-bling lights, that helps with the cooling.
-
Have you tried the freezer?
-
I love people that are so proud of their functioning PS2s... except, of course, for those instances when it became inoperable and had to be repaired.
Even the good ones have broken by now.

speak of the devil. My PS2, which has been absolutely running perfectly since I got it, just started making the grinding noise of death. It\'s been doing it all week. When I heard that I said " well, I guess it\'s time for the glue factory old friend." I was going to just buy an old refurbished, but I didn\'t want to deal with this again so I\'m getting the PSTwo. I\'ll take my chances with a brand new product over one that\'s been used.
-
It can\'t be any worse, right?
Least that\'s what I hoped when I picked up my PSTwo.
No wonder they make so many millions of sales...

Nope...4 years and the only thing that was wrong was a little dirt on the lens, that I fixed by putting one of those cleaners you plop into the drive and it spins while cleaning the lens. Took about 10 seconds and it works just as good as when I got it. No grinding noises...it just works fine.

Does the PStwo have adapters for the hard drive?

I would say it\'s too small to have a hard drive, but that\'d be false. Just look at the iPod...they have like 60 gigs now...and those things are TINY!! Oh well...the new PS2 still looks cool.

THANK YOU!!
I hate people that don\'t buy them. I had a guy buy a new Vaio with the flatscreen and he said he didn\'t need a warranty. I saw the guy had 3 lil girls!
A couple of weeks later he comes back after he had one of the girls basically take a knife and slice the screen. WOOPS! We can\'t do shit about it sorry! Dude got pissed and left.

Thank you for posting that 3 times. I had to delete those. Don\'t do that again...leave the posting of the same thing ten trillion times up to Sammy :p
