So after six years, players will be able to finally experience the continuing adventures of Gordan Freeman when Half-Life 2 hits PCs next week. After that, players can look forward to an Xbox version of the game, which Lombardi confirms is under development right now, though we don\'t know if it\'s being handled by Valve or an external developer. We\'ll be back with more on both versions of the game soon.

Hadn\'t heard anything on the Xbox version in a long time, perhaps those Halo 2 numbers woke them up.:D
Me thinks they should just wait for Xbox 2...

This game will look crappy on the Xbox compared to the PC version. I love the Half-Life original...really looking forward to playing it (on the PC)
-
Even so it will probably still be a good looking game on its\' own. I\'ll settle for that as I have no desire to upgrade my PC.

Yeah...upgrading can be a bey@tch...and expensive. I\'d like to see it on the PS2 as well. They already made the first one on it...don\'t know why it\'d be so difficult for the second.
-
Perhaps the A.I. and the physics are too much or maybe there\'s some truth to the rumor that it\'s coming to PS3.
-
From what I\'m hearing it would have to be dumbed down quite a lot to make it onto a console. The game is just really too much at this point, even for X-Box. I wouldn\'t even want to think about a PS2 version of this game.
Some games were just meant for PCs, this is one of them.

You have to take in account that both Half Life 2 and Doom 3 are two games that using top of the line engines, engines that take advantage of the newest generation of videocards. Not only that, but Half Life 2 and Doom 3 also task the CPU to a limit, Half Life 2 with it\'s AI and Doom 3 with it\'s host based sound engine.

No offense, but that is fairly ignorant. When Half life came out the PS2 was not even out yet and buy the time it was ported over to the PS2, it was a few years ago. It wasn\'t the newest technology.
On the flip side of all this, with a console a developer knows what they are developing for. You have one set standard of hardware, which means a lot of cuts and optimizations can be made. While I am a hundred percent positive that the console versions of Doom 3 and Half Life 2 will not look near as good as the PC, it will allow the developer some slack when porting over.

What LiC says is true. If Halo 2 can be done on the Xbox, then surely Half-Life 2 can be performed on some level.
BTW, Half-Life was designed to run on a P133 and it worked reasonably well on my P100 6 years ago with a card slower than a Voodoo1..
-
I have no doubt it can be done. At this point all three big engine games (Far Cry, Doom 3 and HL2) are being ported. The main thing is what will have to be sacarficed and how the developers will optimize the engine with the streamlined hardware.
-
The developers of Half Life 2 commented that they already believe the Xbox can handle the physics and A.I., their concern is with the graphic capabilities.

Thanks ass (no offense), but I meant like a sh*tty version of Half-Life 2. And yes I realize the ignorance in that statement now, as I didn\'t read it after I typed it. And I know about the crappy technology of the first Half Life, as I used to play it on my friend\'s computer many many years ago, so that\'s nothing new.
I\'m getting it on the PC anyway, and I don\'t think it belongs on any console...except maybe the next-gen ones.

Or the complete lack thereof...

I suppose that was meant to be funny so I\'ll give you a "haha".;)

Before anyone jumps to conclusions, just remember that HL2 was designed to be so incredibly scalable that it almost baffles the mind. I remember at one point Valve saying that a GeForce 2 could play this game and that\'s a videocard two or three generations old at this point. It would be no surprise if HL2 looks at least decent at a decent clip on the Xbox. However, I think it\'s a waste of development time to bank on a quick port to release before the Xbox next comes out. It would just be a better idea to concentrate on something for Xbox next and PS3 and make sure both consoles take full advantage of the hardware rather then just be a quick and dirty version.
