So I installed HL2 today and I was playing for about an hour or so. Then all of a sudden, it was during the hoverboar part, the background got all blocky and was over lapping in like 4 layers. I shut down HL2 then tried to play CS: Source later and it was even worse...
I triend lowering al the settings in the games. I tried it in Call of Duty and the same thing happened. I also upgraded and tried the passed 4 versions of the ATI drivers and updated my sound and BIOS. I unistalled Steam and HL2 after all that and the screen is still ****ed...
ALso, when windows boots up, there are yellow dashed lines.. I dunno, I\'m lost now, anyone have any insite?

sounds like your gpu could be cookin, have u checked to see if the fan is running on your card?
-
are you overclocking your card?
-
No, not at all.. could it just be dusty?
-
is the fan running on the card?
-
I agree with Sqid Grind, check your fan and maybe enything else that would cuase it to overheat. If you have a diagnostic program check your running temp. Does it show more artifacts when under stress?
-
Right now it says it\'s running at 50 degrees celsius..
-
what type of card is it? is the fan running?
-
that\'s about normal....
maybe you fried your gpu already.
-
ATI Radeon X800 Pro :(
-
dood, is the Fan running on the card or not, check to see if it is, it could be simply a dead fan and the gpu is overheating when on load.
-
If your artifacting that bad then yea its gotta be your gpu overheating, hopefully you didnt do any permanent damage to it.
-
I just checked the fan and it is running. This ****in blows... I can\'t believe $400 down the drain... so ****ing unfair.. The first game I try to play that actually needs the power messes it up..
-
why don\'t you just RMA it and get another one? Where did you buy it from?
-
RMA??? I think I might have to.. I just switched in another video card and this one works so it\'s definitely my X800.. I got it from CyberPower PC so I\'ll just have to call them and tell them what happend..
-
you usually have to pay a restocking fee when you Return (RMA = Return Merchandise Authorization)... and it usually runs about 15%, but every vendor is different.
Hope all works out for you
