I found this on another forum. You can\'t view the articles on the source site without registering, so I didn\'t bother. Anyway...here\'s the Article...it sounds interesting:
"TOKYO--Enabling the shift towards "ubiquitous computing," Japan\'s Toshiba Corp. and Sony Corp. late Monday announced the world\'s first 65-nm CMOS process technology for embedded memories.
The process technology will enable single-chip devices, said to be one-fourth the size of current embedded chips in the market. The process also enables a 30-nm transistor with the world\'s fastest switching speeds, as well as the world\'s smallest cell for embedded DRAM and SRAM.
Toshiba and Sony have utilized 65-nm process to fabricate an embedded DRAM with a cell size of 0.11um2, which will enable a 256-megabit memory to be integrated on a single chip. It also fabricated the world\'s smallest embedded SRAM cell of only 0.6um2.
The technology will bring the market towards what the companies call "ubiquitous computing," that is, total connectivity at all times, according to Toshiba and Sony......In a release issued late Monday, the companies described some of the details of the process, including the development of a high-performance transistor with a 30-nm gate length.
Fabricated with 193-nm lithography tools and phase-shift photomasks, the transistor is said to have switching speeds of 0.72-ps for NMOSFET and 1.41-ps for PMOSFET at 0.85-Volt (Ioff=100nA/um).
The transistor makes use of a nitrogen concentration plasma nitrided, oxide-gate dielectrics to suppress gate leakage current. This optimization reduces leakage current approximately 50 times more efficiently than conventional silicon dioxide film and allows formation of an oxide with an effective thickness of only 1-nm.
To reduce wiring propagation delay and power dissipation, a low-k dielectric material is adopted. The target effective dielectric constant of the interlayer dielectric is around 2.7.

that sounds disgusting
in a good way, me loves technology
:nerd:

Well it\'s an important thing to know. People kept saying Sony couldn\'t pull off the Cell to a great potential, due to current cooling system limitations. Obviously the team working on the Cell has proved them wrong.
I have no idea what to expect from Sony in the next year and a half :p
-
i\'m taking everything I read about cell with a grain of salt. Until it\'s official and reviewed by independent sources.
But it\'s still gonna be a mighty fine piece of hardware... until PC\'s catch up like they always do.
-
This is official information JBean...it\'s only talking about the cooling system, so it\'s not giving away any vital PS3 information. It\'s ok, don\'t worry :)

/Still waiting for the Emotion Engine to impress someone.

*impressed by the Emotion Engine*
:D

Yeah, well I\'m still waiting to be impressed by Black Samurai.
..that means YOU!

Well, the PS2 has proven itself already.
But Sony hasn\'t released any usefull info
on PS3 save hyping for media format (BluRay)
and now this cooling stuff.
With recent rumours about PSP\'s ultra short
battery life, imho Sony needs to get their act
together.
Ow, did I mention their inability to meet
consumer demand for the PStwo ?
ah well,... maybe it\'s all a little early to judge things, eh...

They have been crapping out on battery life issues...which they plan on fixing, but it shouldn\'t have been an issue in the first place.
But I agree...it\'s probably too early to tell at this point.

You mean teh Halo killer didn\'t impress you @ 17fps running at 640x480i?? For shame!!!

I was impressed with the level people went to to convince themselves they bought a great game.

No one stays King forever. Ask Nintendo. Sony has slowly been making mistakes, they better not continue down the same road with the PSP and PS3.

100% agree !!
thats why PC world is great, you can customize everything to "your fit"
-
Not much different there imo ;
AMD vs Intel
Nvidia vs Ati
etc.
-
But we get to enjoy the same games.
The PC component brand wars are nothing compared to the scuffles people have over PS2 vs Xbox.
That said consoles arguably get the best games. It\'s hard to be considered a true gamer if you haven\'t played Mario, Metal Gear, Zelda, etc...
-
I\'ve barely played Zelda simply because i never got into them, does that mean i\'m not a true gamer..
wtf is a true gamer anyway, someone who buys every AAA title there is.
