I hated warcraft (cuz i sucked at it) a while ago so i never got into these kind of games until now, thats why i bought an old game. I can play offline fine but im being blocked from online.
Whenever i try to join a game it says i have a firewall thats blocking me. I dont have a firewall on my actual computer, but i am connected to a router (with two other computers so i cant really turn off the main firewall). So i think i have to open ports. I tried a few that a friend gave me, but none of them worked. He said some were for TCP and for UDP, but that didnt make sense since all my router admin thing says is "port" and "ip" (where u type in the port on the left, and the last 3 digits in the computer\'s ip that u want to open the port to)
The Router i have is a DI-704P D-Link. And the Modem i have is a Motorola SB5100 SURFboard Modem.
Do you guys know where i would find the ports?
-
View the Readme, I had to open a bunch but I think the some patches helped that.
And just fyi, the online is kinda bad. People do some really cheap stuff just to boost their rank.
-
yea i know. Im only going to play with 5 or 6 people that i know. The guy that got me into it told me about all the cheap ho\'s that play.
edit: It says:
TCP ports:
80, 6667, 28910, 29900, 29920
UDP ports:
4321, 27900
If your firewall does not allow outgoing packets to open ports to incoming traffic, or you experience problems connecting to other players, you will have to specify which port you want Command & Conquer Generals to use for communicating with other players. To do this, perform the following steps.
Go to your “My Documents” directory, and go to the “Command and Conquer Generals Data” directory. Right click on the options.ini file and choose "Edit."
Look for the "FirewallPortOverride" entry. If you don’t see this entry, add it as a new line. Then assign the port you want to use to the port override entry. After making this change, this entry should look like:
FirewallPortOverride = XXXX
Where XXXX is the port number you have chosen. You will need to open the chosen port in your firewall for communication with players external to your firewall or NAT device. If you use the port override feature, the port you have chosen can not be masqueraded by a NAT device.
I tried those ports but they didnt work. But i didnt do the second part because i didnt understand it. Do i just pick 1 of those ports and hope for the best?

ok chump.
Step 1 Open your web browser and enter the IP address of your router (192.168.0.1). Enter username (admin) and your password (leave blank).
Step 2 Click on Advanced and then Virtual Server.
Step 3 Create the rule:
Click Enabled.
Enter a name (C&C Generals).
Next to Private IP, enter the IP address of the computer you are running C&C from.
Select UDP for Protocol Type.
Enter 4321 next to Private Port and Public Port.
Click Always or configure a schedule.
Step 4 Click Apply and then click Continue.
Repeat for all port numbers u listed Including the TCP ports.
hope it helps.

On my router admin page (Advanced- Virtual Server), theres nowhere to enter the name C&C Generals. On the left is a column that says ID and has a list of 1 to 20 (Cant fill in anything), a second colum that says Service Ports (where u type the port), another column where u type the IP, and a last column that has a check box to enable it.
And it also doesnt have a way to select UDP for a protocol type. Closes thing to something like that is at the bottom, there is a list that has:
AUTH
DNS
FTP
POP3
PPTP
SMTP
TELNET
WEB
with some numbers next to them. Not sure if thats a security thing or waht so i didnt include it.

what version is your router?
-
DI-704P D-Link
-
err, i mean revision, not the model.
DI-704P (revC)
DI-704P (revB)
etc.
-
I looked in the booklet and put it in the cd-rom but i couldnt find what revision it was.

Edit: My dad said it was revision 4.7
wohoo..we got it to work
-
linking to a website that has the router doesn\'t tell me the revision. Under the modem it should save Ver:C1 etc or something similar..
anyway if you got it working good work. :)

Zero Hour has exploits and serious performance issues. EA has no intention of resolving these.
Do yourself a favor and go buy Dawn of War. It\'s much better.
