It kicks, my only gripe is that it would make an awesme PDA but doesn\'t act as one :(. Aside from that and the price of games I htink I might just keep it, and if it sucks in a week I\'ll sell it on Ebay lol.
So does anyone else have one?
-
I\'ll be getting one for Christmas. I won\'t be buying any games until Advance Wars DS unfortunately.
-
Hell yeah, and it\'s fantastic even though the only game I have is a port!
-
psp rulz ds droolz lolololo
... No, seriously, screw the DS. :l
-
I beat Feel the Magic and played through a bunch of Mario. I haven\'t touched it in a week. Whenever I carpool to work, though, it keeps me awake.

DS seems alright. I played the metroid on it against a friend and i wasnt too impressed. The dual screen its all good but in that game it was nothing spectacular.
The graphics were decent for a handheld thusfar and the sound was standable.
Perhaps i played the wrong game to judge the DS. Then again i havent been much of a fan of Metroid ever since prime came out.
Its sad that the support for the PSP is dishing out a lot of ports. With some original content the PSP and DS could evenly compete on the same plain.
-
Yea i bought Mario Ds also, I love it. Great time killer and you know I\'m getting a PSP when that sucker comes out, I\'ll give the DS to my little bro ;).
-
I won\'t be getting one. Nintendo can have their N64 ports and gimmicks. I want PSP and only PSP.
-
That can\'t be my real homez Ethugg??
-
Yes, \'tis. Sadly, I\'ve become very disallusioned with Nintendo. :( The PSP is just... it. I mean, it opened my eyes: this is where handhelds should be at (powerwise), and all Nintendo can do is keep dragging its feet, telling me (and all of us) that we don\'t \'want\' to just keep getting better graphics. Well, I as a matter of fact do. I don\'t want to play my games with an electronic pen. I don\'t want a second screen for maps and feeling up my game system. I want the best damn graphics money can buy. I want analog control. I\'m kinda disappointed in PSP\'s nub, but its still a bigger step in the right direction than DS. Their (Nintendo\'s) comments regarding power/graphics and Revolution reflect the same thinking, worrying me about that too. They should be asking, not telling us what we want. This attitude worked for NES. It even helped SNES catch up and dominate in the end (arguably). But it hasn\'t worked this gen, nor last in the console realm, and that doesn\'t, from what they\'ve been saying publicly, seem to be getting through to them. They have the same attitude with handhelds, and fortunately they\'ve had weak competition until now (I liked GG and Lynx, but they were never a threat). When PSP was announced, when it was unveiled, Nintendo should have taken a step back, and reevaluated DS. Instead they have turned it into the much touted \'3rd pillar\', and say a new real GB is on the horizon still. Either that\'s true, and DS will remain a side project, in which case they are dividing their market up (bad idea), or it\'s BS, and DS is their real new GB, and they are content to sit back with old tech and assume it will keep selling. DS has done well so far, but the new handhelds are both very young. This time next year, 2 years from now, 5 years from now, will Nintendo still be able to be so cocky? Will this old tech with some extras slapped on really dominate the sleek, sexy PSP once its out in the bigger markets? I have pretty big doubts. Sony isn\'t Sega or Atari, Sony has a lot more clout than Nintendo. And if Nintendo finds this out too late and tries to play catch up with a GBA2, what will that do if not weaken their market share by splitting it? Lets just say I think Nintendo\'s about to have deja vu with what happened in the console market last gen.
I won\'t mind being wrong of course, but I\'m very cynical on the matter these days.

like the content, hate the form. Use paragraphs, please.:)

I think alot of people are taking what Iwata said out of context. If graphics weren\'t important then we wouldn\'t be seeing a successor to the Gamecube. ATi is working on the Revolution gpu, it will probably be a variant of their upcoming R5xx chips and that\'s nothing to scoff at. I say wait and see what Nintendo has in store.
This was brought up in another forum and I just couldn\'t help but ask what indicates that Nintendo is behind the technology curve? The games they produce are certainly no slouches, and the gamecube itself has kept up with the Xbox and PS2 offerings. The DS might display N64 graphics but on a handheld that seems to be adequate seeing as how it\'s in demand.

Sorry about the unbroken rant, I hadn\'t realized how long it was until I\'d posted, and by then I was too lazy to fix it.
I don\'t \'know\' Revoilution will be behind, tech wise, but I\'m just saying that his comments have me concerned that that\'ll be the case. We\'ll see. I\'d love to be completely wrong and find myself in line fall \'06 buying Revolution with Mario 256.

Is.. is there any one-word term for "graphics whore"? I can\'t find one in the dictionary.
-
Naw, graphics-whore words sowell anyway. And I won\'t deny it. After story, graphics are the most important thing to me.
-
I think games aren\'t for you then. There are these things called movies and they have much better graphics and stories than games!
-
Someone thinks they\'re funny. :p
I get no interactivity or options with a movie though. No sense of accomplishment. And before you suggest FMV games on Sega CD or 3DO - I played most of them already. :D

jumpman has a point
Gameplay is core to what makes a game... a game
Graphics & Story are Important to the game but like so many times before we all know of games that concentrated on graphics or story to the extent that it impacted on the gameplay.
Examples of Story being more important that gameplay
Metal Gear Solid 2 & Xenosaga both of which have far to many cutsceens and story getting in the way of gameplay.
-
I think KOTOR struck a good balance. But for the record, I\'m more interested in interactive movies (I guess thats what you guys want to call it) than a \'game\'. A game is a mindless waste of time, a thing for children. IMO. What I want is art. What I want is something that has me on the edge of my seat. Makes me feel something. Makes me think. Makes me want to get lost in the world. I had more fun simply exploring and wondering what awaited me in the story in KOTOR or Fable than I\'ve ever had with a \'gameplay first\' kind of game. The only games I play for \'gameplays sake\' are platformers and racers. Adventures, action/Adventures, RPGs (my favorite genres) I play for the story and graphics/immersion.
MGS2 and Xenosage - I wouldn\'t have a problem with all the cutscenes in them if I liked the stories or characters. The problem was, I liked neither. I generally play games (except for the two excluded genres above) with a \'I gotta get the gameplay/stat building/etc over with so I can see the rest of the story\' attitude. Combat is a chore imo, whether its MGS3 or FFX. If you took the story and good graphics out of all games, I probably wouldn\'t be playing them at all anymore.
But really, this is all beside the point. Graphics hype people up, make them say wow, convinces people there\'s a compelling need to move on from old hardware to new. Without the graphics pulling us along into each new gen, most casual gamers would never see much reason to upgrade. And Nintendo has expertly hyped the DS\'s features so far, despite my opinions of said features. But, and I\'m sure you don\'t agree, I don\'t think they can keep beating the \'were innovative\' drums and get people to march in stride with them. Eventually people are going to shrug and say \'enough of these gimmicky so-called innovations\'. Especially if Sony and MS are putting more distance powerwise between them and Nintendo with each new console.
Leave the innovation to the peripheral guys and the programmers - Nintendo as a console maker should be focused on bringing the most powerful console they can to stay competitive. There\'s a reason comments like Iwata\'s worry me. There\'s a reason a lot of analysts and game media people mention Xbox 2 vs PS3 and barely make a footnote of Revolution. I don\'t think everything going wrong in Nintendo land is their fault, but they aren\'t making me confident, or helping themselves with comments like that (and numerous others they\'ve made).
This is pretty off topic, no? I wanna play the puppy game. Wooo DS! :D

I thank God MGS2 is that way

True.......very true. Thats one of the things I hated about MGS2, besides the fact that it took hours to beat.
-
Wow...hours? That should be a standard in games now, shouldn\'t it? *goes to play Mike Tyson\'s Punch Out, beats the game in 15 minutes*

at least, punch out you probably spent months to master to get to Tyson.
it was chalenging. you had to stay focus and learn and execute most paterns almost flawlessy. When you beat a new character, you had a feeling of accomplishment.
MSG2 and others today\'s game are just, easy trials and errors.

Too true. Mario 1 is still hard. And dont even get me started on games like Kid Chameleon where there were like 188 levels and no saves.
About MGS2 though - i enjoyed the cutscenes and the length. Wasnt the best game in the world but the story was good enough for me.
-
I had that game for a week when I was like...4 years old and I beat it. It wasn\'t that hard, IMO. Still a fantastic game, though.
