Downloading...... will reply with what i think.

after viewing it, its a lot faster imo then T4. Seems that they\'re playing a quest mode like in VF4. I don\'t like the fact that the fire on the ground didn\'t seem to effect them in anyway, maybe they should get damage taken from the fire..  Looks good.

A quest mode?Is there such a similar mode in the arcade version of Tekken5?
I believe thats the common arcade mode with two players competing each other.

lol they kept Kaz\'s WR~1, 2 whorish as ever but with some lag time at the end.  This is gonna be fun for Bruce. :<

Thanks for the vid.  Castel has been posting preview vids but no good gameplay footage yet.

edit- The personal name is the IC Card system.  Read about it here (http://www.tekkenzaibatsu.com/news/index.php?mode=article&newsid=347).  Basically stores your personal info and what you\'ve accumulated by playing.

Last, but certainly not least, your local arcade machine will have the ability to keep ghosts of other players to match up against in the single player arcade mode. The machine will take note of other player\'s playing styles with their custom characters, and it will mimic that against you during a single player match. Since there\'s no Tekken.Net service in the US, this option will be limited to the players from your local arcade, but it should make for a great addition to the often lackluster computer playing experience.

I liked that part a lot :)
No more fighting with the same CPU opponent tactics. This could mean that in the PS2 version the CPU may start mimicing and learn your tactics. So no more boring, stupid, flawed fights against the CPU

I got to play the game a few days ago, got up to devil Jin and lost :(  i\'m not used to arcade sticks however, the game is far more open then T4 is, you don\'t fight up against walls much at all. Even if you reach them they\'re pretty easy to sidestep away from. The game also has more of a T3 feel, while keeping T4s moves etc.  Can\'t wait for the ps2 release. It\'ll entertain me for a few days.

Dunno about Oz but in the states they have a controller port on the side of the Tekken cabinets.  Kinda nerdy to bring your PS2 controller to the arcade but if the sticks suck...

Post by: Sublimesjg on February 15, 2005, 01:04:03 PM
yea just got it in my city and it has the controller ports - i dont find the sticks on the arcade that great - not very responsive and very loose imo

so when about 10 of us are there always ends up with someone bringing controller
Title: Tekken5 Movies
Post by: clips on February 15, 2005, 01:25:56 PM
i will definitely be picking this one up. part of the reason is besides the gameplay, i like to see where the storyline for each character ends up, even if it is only 10 -20 seconds of in-game or cg :p

Then why don\'t you just go to TekkenZaibatsu to read about it?

All of the characters have been revealed (out in time release in Japan) with a few surprises. It\'s a MASSIVE cast, and every character is as good as eachother. It\'s extremely balanced. In fact, the two highest ranked players in my city (last time I saw them a week or so ago [5th Dan]) were using JACK!

I personally use Julia, as I wanted to start over with a character I had never mastered before, and as such I took quite a beating early  on, but I can be deadly now. She has a few combos which can take off up to half of your opponents health. Next I\'ll move on to learning Lee. Then I plan to create a card using Mokujin. :D Nobody else in my city appears to have done that yet, but due to my relative inexperience, I will get whooped.

I\'ve been addicted to the game since it was released here on new years eve, and I\'m going back in to play again tonight. :D IMO, the best Tekken game ever made, and gives me high high hopes for Tekken Tag 2\'s potential. :)

In case you doods didn\'t know the Tekken 5 US National tournament is going on right now.  The East Coast regional was this passed weekend and another guy from VA won.  That makes our state #1 for the past 4 tekkens.  You should see the arcades here, nothing but asians as far as the squinted eye can see.

Which I would imagine, wouldn\'t be all that far.

Oh, and no controller ports in the machines in AUS.

My local arcade just got the machine today, so tommorrow night I\'m going to set about improving on my 35% winning ratio. About 75% of my losses are against the top 2 or 3 players in the damn city, it makes me look terrible. :(

Just started my Mokujin card, and thinking about starting my Lee card. It\'s just a pity that the game costs so damn much ($2AUD a pop, I\'ve asked the manager if they can put it down to 50cent continues as in the city arcade, so here\'s hoping).

..anyways. Carry on.

Just recently started a Feng card (4th Kyu after one day), he seems to be a very good turtler, which is why I picked him, as those people who are using Brian have a major advantage in that he\'s DAMN fast with a lot of very powerful combos. If anyone wants an easy but very dominant character without much leaning involved, use Brian.

You know, I\'d probably save money if I flew down to where you live Sooly and played you. :p Have you gotten into it yet? A card?

Well, the demo kinda sucks. One round playing as Raven p1 or Asuka p2. The sound is screwy so i haven\'t recorded it, and the fact it isn\'t setup through my pc.

Only thing with this game is, is that it\'s VERY offensive based. If you sit back and block, you WILL be destroyed. Simple low attacks alone (and everyone has a very quick one) can lead to 40% damage combos, so watch out! And make sure you duck!

Tonight I took my new Feng card (I lost my 1st Dan one. :() to the city and played against about 15 people who chose Mokujin, then they would keep switching who I was fighting against, depending on which person was best with which character. Was GREAT fun.

Damn!I thought it was more balanced than previously with defense being as important as offense.
Something I love aout VF4 is this balance.
Title: Tekken5 Movies
Post by: Bobs_Hardware on February 23, 2005, 03:09:28 PM
Well you have to be able to defend. A pro-active defense is the best defence, though. For example, Feng has 3 different kinds of parry\'s.

I\'m just saying that the game is a lot faster paced than, say, Tekken Tag, and waiting for your opponent to make the next move (unless you\'re very skilled) is suicide. If you see even the slightest opening to attack, you simply have to take it.

Otherwise, great game with some excellent graphics and animation.

I think Jinpachi is a great idea. Someone who you can\'t play as, but really overpowered.. like a final boss should be.

You\'ll find he\'s easy to defeat, as long as you\'re continually attacking. My Julia has the best time in the city (4 minutes 5 seconds), other than that I average about 5 - 6 mins to beat the game.

Some people who play at my local arcade have just gotten the American version on DVD... soon they\'ll be able to use every character fluently, while I can only use maybe 4 or 5.. :(
Title: Tekken5 Movies
Post by: §ôµÏG®ïñD on March 01, 2005, 01:20:29 AM
I have NO idea wtf namco was thinking in this one, the gameplay has improved shit loads, but man are the story lines just out there. Most of them are boarder line stupid. Its like they\'ve gone the fantasy route and couldn\'t be fucked making a decent story line for half of the characters. Some of the backgrounds are just stupid too, some are very good.

Fighting wise its improved heaps. The characters have more of a individual feel while being pretty well balanced. Jinpachi is just imo the most tacky bs character ever made. Although he\'s pretty easy to beat, he\'s just totaly tacky and can take out half of your life bar with 1 move.  I personally think he should be playable, but only in his normal mode, not when he powers up into that demon thing.

They\'ve also thrown in Tekken 1, 2 and 3 (arcade versions) which i guess is pretty cool.

I\'ve been playing it in progressive scan mode, gotta love it. I\'ll make some vids of the endings and i\'ll do the Ps2 Intro if u guys want it.

Mmm.. I\'ve been mastering new Jin. Far more challenging. I love taking on people who choose Kazuya and Devil Jin. Even though they\'re good characters, they\'re easy characters. Far less rewarding.
Title: Tekken5 Movies
Post by: Unicron! on March 03, 2005, 10:09:06 AM
Yeah I know what you mean.I like Jin\'s newer fighting style as well but I simply cant forget Jin\'s original style which I loved and was practicing on at TTT and T3.
I dont know about T5 though but in T4 it was unfair that compared to most characters his juggling(and generally ground) combos werent as strong or as extensive as others.I think this is the case again thats why he is more challenging to use.Even in Tekenzaibatsu this was evident in combo movies by checking the damage the opponent takes.
It was more of mastering the timing of his special block leaving the opponent for fractions of a second open for an attack.
Title: Tekken5 Movies
Post by: §ôµÏG®ïñD on March 03, 2005, 10:55:13 AM
Yea Jin in T5 rocks, they\'ve tweaked even his normal T4 moves. He\'s far more effective then he was in T4. Even kazuya has been tweaked to a point where he isn\'t a useless character. In T4 Kaz was so unbalaced it wasn\'t funny. You pretty much had to relie on only timing to get anything in. He was just to pradictable.

I\'ll make another vid to show what new moves the mishimas have...  Just outta boredom hehe.

since you mentioned it.How\'s the AI?Is it still weak at some points?
For example in TTT Ultra Hard Mode I noticed that each time I ran towards the CPU and sidestepped I could perform a sided throw almost anytime on it.
Or for example in T4 the CPU tried to recover fast each time it was knocked down giving me chance to hit it again while it was recovering.
Other times for some reason some specific attacks were rarely blocked(examples: Heihachi=pressing back+left punch, Jin=down+right punch, Howarangs unblockable hit while the CPU was knowcked on the ground. The CPU would remain there to get hit and it always worked)

anyway i\'ve done the kazuya vid.

here (http://www.users.on.net/~torskin/Tekken5/Kazuya.avi) it is (even made it more professional with sound)

whoah the last stage is impressive
I believe they should have made Jinpanchi that strong only when you play against the CPU in the last stage.

I get the impression btw that the AI still has some weak points like recovering too fast.
Title: Tekken5 Movies
Post by: Bobs_Hardware on March 06, 2005, 06:50:36 AM
Naww... I like that this time the AI learns, and if you keep doing the same moves, you\'ll get smashed.

Also, at least it\'s cool at the arcades, when you\'re playing against the Ghost of a human opponent, being hit by moves, chains, and juggles that the human normally does... AWESOME.
Title: Tekken5 Movies
Post by: THX on March 06, 2005, 09:12:33 AM
^^^It\'s the same thing for T5 for PS2 in arcade mode.  They copied a bunch of human players\' fighting styles and you can see their individual screen names too under their health meter.

You can also choose what character and experience level of the enemy you\'re going to fight next.  They pretty much went all out in this one, though I wish they included 4-player Tekken ball. :)

Post by: Unicron! on March 06, 2005, 09:19:48 AM
Thats awesome. You cant imagine how much I am glad this is the case :)
In previous Tekkens I never had that sense of satisfaction no matter how fast I ended the Ultra Hard Mode because I always saw the CPU missing opportuinities otherwise a human would have exploited.
Great!!!
Does ths CPU also copies your fighing style?Like using your own techniques and jaggling?

What, you mean will you play against your own Ghost? Yeah, I\'ve played against my own ghost a few times. Sometimes I\'ve been at the arcades watching someone play, and my Ghost will come up against them. It\'s always quite funny if they know me.  All sorts of shouting. :D

^ no it doesn\'t. Infact it doesn\'t seem like the cpu learns much at all. Just pre-programmed skills or type of fighting like low attacks only etc.

anyway, Heres (http://www.users.on.net/~torskin/Tekken5/Heihachi.avi) heihachis vid. He has a lot of new moves, most of them are just simple 2 tap shit. So i didn\'t include them.

I am impressed by the number and variety of new moves they added in Tekken5.I havent seen so many new moves since the shift from Tekken2 to Tekken3.Tekken4\'s new moves were insignifigant and few

Can you make some videos featuring other stages as well btw?

I think it\'s a bit harder to do in a console version. Remember how in Virtua Fighter 4, you had to teach the AI yourself? At least I think you did, I never bothered to do it myself..
