Electronic Arts today announced an investment in international game developer and publisher UbiSoft Entertainment, headquartered in Rennes, France. The investment represents approximately 19.9 percent interest in the company -- shares purchased as a block from Talpa Beheer B.V. to be completed upon obtaining antitrust clearance from the U.S. government. Financial terms were not disclosed.

 OMFG ! Please let this NOT become a take over buy out.
Go away EA ! Leave Ubi alone !
-
I predict that in 5 years EA will the the Microsoft of games.
-
Can you imagine the beloved Splinter Cell franchise in hands of friggin\' EA !? :( :crying:
-
Damn I imagine the next Rainbow 6 to involve car chases and rescuing a hot & unusally unproportioned damsel in distress if EA takes over.

O_O *runs out and preorders Rainbow Six 4*
New detail- it reportedly cost between $85-100 million. http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=6016
-
damn, there goes UBI. This will indeed suck
4 words.
**** OFF EA
-
Hmm, its kind of getting out of hand right now. Prepare to have "EA Trax" in the new Splinter Cell. ;) "Hi, this is Dude Dudesson on Stealth FM, bringing you the stealthiest music around!"
Now I hope DICE says no and stays independent.
-
UBI has been pissing me off too. Anyone play R6: Raven Shield? It took them like 2 years to make a patch to fix all the cheaters and bugs and the patch didnt do sh*t. Granted they will always have hackers, but they had a plan to add something more than Punkbuster but they got lazy and gave a half-assed patch and people still only have to type in the console some kind of cheat. Not sure if UBI noticed but more people are playing Raven Shield than Athena Sword showing their addons/updates suck ass.
Now some of the screenshots for the new Rainbow 6 looks like they went in a worse direction. They were console screenshots so that might be the reason it looks worse than Raven Shield.

EA possibly : hostile take over Ubisoft (http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=topNews&storyID=7142324&pageNumber=1)
OMG. Please let it NOT happen !
-
i guess i\'ll be in the minority here...get it minority?..cause i\'m a minori...ah nevermind...seriously tho..only game i picked up from ubi was beyond good and evil..which i thought was excellent..and i plan on getting that prince persia joint....the 2nd one...
sheeit if ea keeps this up they will surely cause the big crash ofthis generation...for those of us that are old enough..remember when activision was basically the only developer makin\' games for the atari 2600?...shortly after that the console industry died for a small hiatus until the emergence of the NES system...that is what will happen if EA or any other developer becomes too big in this business...
-
^ Yes, I know Nolan Bushnell\'s story. Atari had a truly nice development atmosphere.... until the money greedy suits ruined it.
-
 This is getting out of hand. EA is run by dumb asses.
-
Boycott EA :p
-
I already have ;)
-
It\'s definitely bad news. Monopoly is bad, and EA is bad. An EA monopoly = double-bad.
... And they\'re moving right in that direction. Sega had better tuck their pants into their socks because they could be next!

A donkey was a horse designed by a committee group.

^ On the mid to long term basis such CEO\'s ruin the game industry. This is only beneficial for their own bankaccounts.
Any sane person sees this is not a good thing for the \'whole picture\'. By taking such a big piece of the sweet cake they\'re
making the whole thing turn sour. :o

*ahem* That was the last game I bought from them. I\'m mostly referring to their sports games...
-
aah but you will have no other option but to buy other games of theirs though. You cant boycot them
-
Meh...I\'ve decided...no more EA...
-
its funny to sit and watch as you literally think your gaming lives are over, EA may put out some crap, but just because they bought some shares of ubi soft doesn\'t mean they run the company. Besides I\'m sure some other up start gaming company is around the corner.
-
With the rising costs of game development, would you rather smaller companies cut corners and eventually fizzle out or would you rather they get financial backing from big time publishers like EA.
Either way EA is going to get their hands on these franchises. You can get it the good way where EA controls the development house or the bad way where EA buys the franchise at a liquidation sale and puts a crap ass team in place ( or worse, shelves it indefinately).

Vive La France ! :D

Stay the F away EA ! :stick:

The amazing thing is that people complain about a certain company buying up developers like Bungie, but when EA does this and secures massive deals with the NFL, it is looked over.
Personally, I was never a fan of Trip Hawkins. Screw 3DO and screw EA.
Thank you and goodnight.
