I saw this Saturday. It was a really really good movie. Some people are mad saying it didn\'t go along with the book, and saying that people who haven\'t read the book will enjoy it more. I loved the movie...any comments?
-
I enjoyed the movie and I love Jim Carrey. Um...this movie is very unique. And it definitely wasn\'t a kid\'s movie by ANY means. A lot of parents left because of it, which was good because their kids were loud and annoying. And nothing EVER goes along with the book...that\'s Hollywood for ya ;)
This is the strangest movie I\'ve seen in a LONG time. I\'m still frightened from the first 5 minutes of it :/
-
I never heard of the book, but I saw the movie and liked it.
It wasn\'t the greatest for me, but I enjoyed it. Carrey plays a freaky guy. It\'s a creepy performance from him with only hints of his goofiness.
I think it was John Cleese from Monty Python who also had a big role. Oddly, now that I think back, I think he played Uncle Monty and had a pet python.
Cool.
But yea, I actually thought it was more of a kids movie fantasy, but I liked it.

Im surprised to hear that this movie wasnt just some bootleg childrens flick that Jim Carey did just to get a buck (that and not drop of the face of the planet). I was wondering where he was but if its "entertaining" then thats all i need to know.
The trailers made it look terrible but perhaps ill check this one out.

Why did they leave? or during what part?

LOL...we actually were asking if we had come in the right movie

Yeah...I was like...???

Edited for spoilers [sp]by EviX[/sp] :stick:

Jim Carrey is a really capable actor IMO. And he\'s funny to boot - it\'s just too bad that "because he is teh funny he can\'t act".
He was amazing in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (great movie by the way).

Yeah...I forgot about the spoiler tags right after I hit the submit button...I was like...SHEE-ITE!! ;) Thanks for pointing that out  It was haunting me all nite...

If you didn\'t notice, then...

I don\'t remember what I posted, but what I think I said wasn\'t really giving anything away... imo... My mouse isn\'t working, I can\'t click the spoiler thing to reread it (assuming it wasn\'t edited away).

highlight it genious

I have audio book of this story. Quite entertaining. It\'s very dark and in no way for children under the age of 13 years. I can see how the trailers could fool unwary parents into bringing their kids to see the movie. Three children as the main characters? Jim Carey? How dark could it be?
Very Dark.
-
Yeah...it\'s pretty f^cked. I was surprised...

With what, my penis? My mouse isn\'t working, genius.
I didn\'t think it was that dark. The thing near the end that I think I mentioned in my other post was the only thing I would feel weird about letting a13 (and younger) year old see, just because of the sheer creepy immorality of it.

Brilliant f**kin\' movie.
One of the best this year.

John Cleese playing Uncle Monty?
Egads man, it was Billy Connelly.
Didn\'t care for the movie that much, though Carey was solid as usual, and Dustin Hauffman had a great cameo.
Also, haven\'t seen Spotless Mind or Eternal Sunshine yet. Much to my shagrin.

My God, no kidding!! Tonight I saw the new movie, "Lemony Snicket\'s A Series of Unfortunate Events," and when Billy appeared (as the orphans\' jovial reptile-expert uncle), I could\'ve swort it was John Cleese. He was even doing a Cleese-type upper-class "good old chap" character. The resemblance is remarkable. It makes me wonder how many parts Billy gets because he\'s so much like John, and no doubt much cheaper.
Guess it\'s not just me. ;]

Billy Connelly mistaken for John Cleese?
John Cleese who starred as "Nearly Headless" in the first Harry Potter movie?
Well....they do look somewhat similar.
Anyone want to help me with this? I finished the first book of "Series of Unfortunate Events". However, I feel this movie was possibly a compilation of the other books? But I have not read them. Am I correct here? I think it was better than the book. Coz it was quite short and this movie had far more to tell.
-
I thought it was John Cleese too... in both this and the Last Samurai. pwned. :(
I believe its a compilation of the first 3 books, if I\'m not mistaken. I never got into the books myself, I\'m too into HP to give anything else a chance. lameness. :(
-
He looks nothing like John Cleese!!!
BAAAAHHH!
He\'s only one of the greatest most versatile comedians of all time!
.... Billy, that is. Not John....
... sorry. :(
-
Without the hair they could look quite a bit alike.
-
The movie is based on the first three books, The Bad Beginning, The Reptile Room, and The Wide Window.
I haven\'t read any of the books but I\'ve been searching for something to read inbetween Harry Potter books...after seeing the movie I don\'t think I\'ll be picking up the Lemony Snicket series. I was mostly bored with the film, admiring the beautiful sets than staying interested in the story.
meh.
