Alright... I\'m a business technology major w/ a concentration in international business, and since the overall workload isn\'t too intense, I think it would be wise for me to double major and pick up a language along the way. The problem is I\'m not sure which route to take. I definitely want to study abroad though, at least for one semester. Just tell me which of these will probably be the most valuable to employers when I graduate.
1. Chinese (Shanghai) - China\'s economy continues to grow, and they are definitely on the rise.
2. Japanese (Tokyo) - Another business superpower.
3. Australia (Perth) - Probably the easy way out, as no language prerequisite is required. But they do provide courses with emphasis on business along the Pacific rim, and there are hot Aussie women.
Those are pretty much my top 3 choices... If anyone else has any suggestions for other countries then please say so. Keep in mind that I will be living in these places for roughly half a year so keep in mind those elements (weather, girls, fun, etc.).
-
Go to Asia. I hear they have good surfing.
Forget Australia. Only thing good coming out of that hemisphere is LOTR and that series is cooked. Plus there is no telling what will happen to you when you jump in the shower. Those aussies like to wrestle at the strangest times.
-
I was thinking Asia too. I really want to have lots of sex, so I thought Aussie would have been a good bet.
-
yeah, but they only do it in the two hole.
-
I think Chinese and Japanese are kinda hard, looks at those characters. Its crazy trying to remember them.
Why not just try something that uses western alphabet?...
such as Vietnamese...

Well I did two years of Chinese in high school... it isn\'t really that hard if you apply yourself to learning the characters.
I don\'t think Vietnamese is real useful in the business world.

Japanese is much simpler in terms of the language itself. Chinese sounds all the same to me, and it becomes very hard to decipher what a Chinese individual is saying when they speak at a fast rate.
I\'ll probably end up doing some educational endeavor in Japan, either teaching English or some business-related thing. Plus, like you said, it\'s easy to get laid ;)
As for the characters, they aren\'t hard if you apply yourself [like stated before]. They even have some books on the similarities of the words and then compares them to actual pictures, so you can grasp the meaning visually. It still gets a little strange when you have to read it backwards.
I wouldn\'t choose Japan though if you don\'t want to spend a lot of money, because the cost of living there is insanely high and you get small housing for it, which isn\'t a very good deal [bastards].
Aussie would probably be the easiest thing you could do, but learning a new language is a really fun thing to accomplish in life, and there\'s something very cool and spiritual talking with another individual from a culture vastly different from your own.
The choice will ultimately be up to you, and I\'m sure you\'ll make the right choice. I\'d love to do things in all 3 of those great countries. But um...good luck with that...
-
Chinese is an awesome language, but i think its harder than Japanese personally. All the inflections and rise of tones etc. Japanese is just straight - ka ki ko ku etc etc. Not easy but seems easier.
Im a Japanese nut so id choose Japan but they all sound sweet. Both Tokyo and Shanghai are major cities so you\'ll probably find things to do in both.
Like Evi said, in the end its all up to you. Pick the culture/language etc, that you are more interested in learning about the most. If youre lazy then go to Australia.
-
Go Asia. The chicks are cuter IMO.
-
Australlia
Why go somewhere for a few months by yourself not knowing the language?

This way you can say sexual and obscene things in English and they don\'t understand what you are saying :)
-
Swiffy\'s future itinerary for his extensive "asian odyssey".
1. Bangkok
-
Australia.
I just watched an old doco called \'Shocking Asia\'. I am never going to another Chinatown again...
-
Asia, you don\'t need to be part of racer\'s next shower story.
-
Perhaps I\'m just sceptical, but I doubt very much that you\'ll "pick up" Chinese or Japanese in a semester or two. Perhaps if you stay there for 5 years.... you\'ll have a small grasp of either language.
-
Japan.

Well the semester experience is simply to bulken up my eventual resume. I\'ll be studying the language prior to going abroad. This is why I\'m asking now (I won\'t go abroad until spring semester of 2007), so I can see what language I need to start studying now.
My dad is pushing China, and saying it will be great for business. My gut is leaning towards Japan. And my dick is leaning towards Aussie.
-
"bulken"?!
hmmm....perhaps you should study English before you try anything else.
-
Well you can\'t argue against learning Chinease with what, 80 billion people? Those chinease chicks love the sex.
And do they really write in symbols? I thought that was outdated. I mean, it is outdated. I just thought they finally realized it.
-
chinese chicks like big dicks.
-
well that could be a problem.
-
I heard Japanese girls are quite partial to ginger nuts. ;)

If you really wanna go to Japan, the language isnt to hard to pick up. I\'ve been here for 9 months and I\'m getting the hang of it just by hearing it. But than again speaking Japanese and reading Japanese are 2 totally different things.
-
The entire tsunami catastrophe really has me leaning more towards China. I really don\'t want to have to deal with that. And I know thats naive, but seriously, dying sucks.
-
Errr...
The tsunami didn\'t affect Japan...
Anyway, both countries suffer from earthquakes...
-
Not this recent tsunami, but I was just saying how I really see the havoc thats comes with it.
Regardless though, I\'m thinking about Japan now.
-
Swifdi, base your decision on what women are hotter and what they will give you. That would motivate me ;)
-
*BUMP*
Okay, fast forward 5 months, here\'s where I\'m at:
Intended Business Major: Finance
Double Major: Chinese
I\'ve decided to learn Chinese. Therefore chances are I\'m going to either Shanghai, which another buddy of mine is also doing. First year of college kicked my ass tho, after the smoke cleared from the second semester, I\'m tight-roping on a 3.0.
But yeah, the new thing is finance. And I want a job on the west coast, possibly Las Vegas.
Feel free to chime in.

congrats on your engagement...I didn\'t even know you were heterosexual....

Yeah, you\'re friend sounds like he enjoys tripping on acid in Japan.
Either way, I\'m pretty set on Chinese. Figure it would be a waste to just jump into another language after studying Chinese in high school.

Hah, that was my only assumption but I didn\'t wanna go out on a limb and look like a heterosexual, beceause I really like to take man cock in my ass.
-
That\'s a shame, a fiery red-head with an accent that can swim would be able to get all the man cock in his ass that he ever wanted down here.
Probably get a shitload of pussy too, if that was your thing.
