Hi, new membe,r to the forums, my wife bought me a PS2 for christmas to give me something to do.I am 44 and suddenly find myself retired after a massive stroke. i am trying to hook it up to the tv, but i can not get it to work. I am not sure what i am doing wrong, i have the av cable plugged into the rear of the unit and the jacks plugged into the front of the tv white to white yellow to yellow and red to red, the power adaptor was plugged into the unit and the plug of course into the wall. The console powers up,and the red light is lit on the front of the unit. Not sure what else i need to do. I need help.
-
Make sure it\'s on channel 3, and make sure you\'re in the right video mode.
-
You flipped the console switch in the back to the on position, right? Sounds stupid but a lot of people overlook that.
-
once you have turned it on at the back you need to press the power button on the front also (the one with the red light on). That will switch the console on.
-
I dont see a switch on the back of the console
-
if plugged into the auxilary plug in the back of the tv, tune your tv to the auxilary channel, hit AUX on your tv remote.
-
OK,all the plug ins are in the front but i will try the aux button, once my wife has finished watching her movie
-
Wait, what PS2 do you have? The original or the slim one? I was thinking of the original. I don\'t know shit about the slim model.
-
I have the slim model, hey no problem i do not know poop about them ethier
-
I\'m sure the problem isn\'t anything major. Probably something stupid. I need to mess around with my brothers slim PS2 and get a feel for it. Try reading the owners manual a bit more. It might have some troubleshooting.
-
it\'s hooked up right.
1) Make sure you press the red-light button to make it turn green.
2) Look on your TV\'s remote for an Input/Game Mode/TV Video button to switch inputs to the front AV jacks.
-
There is no power button on the back of the slim line. Just plug it in and hit the red button top right. Should turn green and you are good to go. Look in your tv\'s menu for what button controls the A.V. inputs on the front of your tv. Push that button on the remote and you should have a picture. In other words what THX said. :D Let us know if you get it working.
-
turn red to green and change the channel to your aux input. Some TVs switch to aux when you go below channel 3. Some you hit a tv/video button.
Welcome to the forum. We need more oldies!!!!
WOOHOO!!
-
Vid feels all alone being the only old fart.
-
Not only am i a parylized old fart i am also blind to boot, seems i missed the av button on the front of the tv av3 did the trick. Do you know of a joystick i can use with this PS2?
-
There you go.
As far as joysticks go. Just about anywhere they sell games will have joysticks. Heck, you can even buy one at Blockbuster.
You may want to get wireless ones. THen you don\'t have any cables to worry about. ;)
Oh, and since you are new here, I have to inform you that it is proper to use the Gman smiley on every couple of posts.
:gman:
-
Ok cool, my wife had bought me a Logitech extreme 3Dpro twist handle joystick but i can not seem to get it to work. what games do and dont work with joysticks.
8-)
-
Ace Combat 5 would work. I guess its the same as Ace Combat 4 which is a great game. (iv only played AC 4)
Iv been hearing Ace Combat 5 sucks or is the same as the 4th so id pick AC4.
-
Ok, i hav, e ace combat 5 how about need for speed underground 2, or any other racing games
-
Maybe some games don\'t work with the joystick. I just stick to the classic wired controller. I hope that they come out with a wireless for PS3.
I just realized something. fre4d4 is the only new person we haven\'t scared away yet. You are strong. Stay with us, you are one of us :)
-
there hasnt been enough ghey in the thread to scare him away.
*fondles titan*
-
Freezer trick. Wack the ps2 in the freezer, remove after 24 hours and it\'ll work perfectly fine. You MUST start the ps2 straight after removing it from the freezer.
-
*lol* Good old Soulgrind... still doin\' it the freezer way ! :stick: :nerd: ;)
BTW: Better use the Joypad, it is needed for most of the Games.
-
DOn\'t get any racing games. GT4 is coming out and that will own all.
-
I do not scare easily, problem is i do need a joystick, i only have the use of my right arm,my entire left side is parilyzed,so the controller that came with the console is difficult for me to useGT4,hmmm i will have to keep that in mind.Actuallymy wife bought me,some racing games, need for speed underground 2which i like,a drag racing game-- smugglers run. Also GTA,Vice city. This is a pretty cool forum,i like it here.
-
I find it ironic that you only have the use of your right arm and your user name is typed completely with the left hand.
or
I\'m just bored at work.
Do you have your Playstation hooked up to the internet?
-
I was tired when i signed up, and no i do not have it hooked up to the internet.
-
Well you could certainly drive GT4 with one arm. Hell, it\'s just like real life.
Drive with your knee while talking on the cellphone with one hand, a burger in the other and a map on the wheel.
-
OH,how i long for the use of my left side again, first i need to get a good joystick, the controller that came with the PS2 is a little difficult to use with one hand.
-
How long do they estimate the paralysis will last?
Does it feel strange, like completely numb, or is there feeling, but no control?
Can you force your arm to move?
I\'m curious.
-
It, could take several years, i have no feeling at all, ecept for a occasional itchy feeling.I can not force it to move, sometimes if i have a good stretch i can get it to move but i can not controll it. My leg seems to be returning faster, i can walk with the use of a cane, and i do not do to badly when walking, that is if i can actually stay upright. Yesterday i took a header into the stairs, that hurt alot. Now my neck hurts.

Its actually impossible for me to do in my car to drive with my knee. I\'ve tried. My steering wheel is high up.
-

Isn\'t your steering wheel adjustable?
There is usually a lever on the side or bottom of the steering column that let\'s you raise or lower your wheel.
Fred,
Do you go to any type of physical rehabilitation center?
I\'ll ask the Universe to help you along with your recovery.
-
Rehab is over for right know, until i start to see improvements i appreciate your prayers,i have complete faith God will heal me completely

I think it is as low as it goes. Its just my wheel sticks out over my knees and thighs.
-
So what are you saying titan?
-
I think he\'s saying that his car seat needs to be farther back
-
that could make things a bit more comfy, dont slam on the brakes,OUCH
-
What happened to cause the stroke?
If you don\'t mind me asking.
-
Right Said fre4d4.
-
someone had to say it.

Juslight i am enclosing a letter my wife wrote to people for christmas, concerning the strokeHermanson Holiday Herald
In any given year, families go through changes – but 2004 brought drastic changes for Fred and I.
January began normally but ended with an emergency room visit that began a year long journey. On the night of January 31, Fred woke me up at 2 am complaining of the “worst headache he ever had in his life”. One look at him indicated an immediate trip to the hospital. By the time we arrived at Holyoke Medical Center, Fred was paralyzed on the left side. He rapidly worsened and was put on a ventilator. A Ct scan revealed a large bleed in the right side of his brain that required immediate surgery to save his life.
A number of events showed divine providence that spared Fred’s life. The ER doctor had lost his wife to the same condition so he recognized the symptoms immediately. At pre-dawn, a neurosurgeon was available to read the Ct scan and perform the surgery. Until just recently HMC did not have a neurosurgeon on staff. The medical staff performed with the orchestration of a fine symphony. God also provided enormous emotional support by having a dear friend come to the hospital to be with me at 3 AM, and by 5:30 six pastors and their wives were in the ICU waiting room beside me waiting for Fred to come out of surgery. Since I work the 11 to 7 shift in this ICU, my co-workers were a great support for me. I had never been on this side of a hospital bed before….I can never look at family members the same way again.
The surgery stopped the bleed, but Fred was flown to Mass General Hospital that afternoon to be stabilized and to have an angiogram done to define the area in his brain that bled which still needed further surgery to remove. He spent a month at Mass General, 10 days in Neuro-ICU, then in a step-down unit before being transferred to Fairlawn Rehab in Worcester. During Fred’s month in Boston I stayed with my cousin and her family in Newton so I could be with Fred each day. Daily one to three people from home traveled to Boston to be with me, giving me the support and love that I so needed at this time. Friends also took care of my mom’s needs at home since I couldn’t be here.
Fred labored through rehab for 7 weeks, relearning balance, bearing weight on a limb he could no longer feel, and day-to-day functions, even eating and drinking because the left side of his mouth and throat were affected too. On April 13, Fred returned to Mass General to remove the arterial venous malformation from the right side of his brain. Without this surgery there was a 7% chance of another bleed each year. After that surgery, he returned to rehabilitation – this time in Ludlow – for a month, followed by 3 months of out-patient therapy three times a week.
To date, with a full leg brace, Fred can now walk with a quad cane and get up and down stairs using a right sided handrail. He has regained most daily functions but still has limited sensory perception in the left arm and leg, and no motor function in his left arm. The doctors believe, because of his age, he will have a full recovery….but who knows how long that will take.
Aside from the obvious challenges, life goes on. I’ve cut way back on my visiting nurse work but still work 32 hours a week in the ICU (that job carries our insurance). I have expanded my photography business and Fred helps me with editing and CD production.
As we look at the gifts under our Christmas tree this season, we are reminded of greater, less tangible gifts – like life itself. It has been a difficult year but we are thankful. It’s times like these that make you realize what is really important in life.

-
Nice to hear from you ! How\' about your PS2 ? What Games are OK for you to play ?
-
I play, need for speed 2 alot, i am able to use the controller with one hand. Takes a little getting used to but not immpossible..I also, play a snowboarding game alot, but can\'t think of the name at the moment, i still want to get a joystick and a steering wheel soon. It\'s good to be back, i have missed posting here.
-
Too bad you didn\'t have a gamecube. you\'d be able to try the donkey konga drum games or donkey kong jungle beat. you could conceivably hit both bongos if you opened your palm and it can be fooled to think your clapping just by tapping the side of the drum.
I don\'t know how the hell you use a standard controller like that, but more power to ya.
I saw on tv a blind guy who is able to beat Mike Tyson in Mike Tyson\'s Punch Out!! using sound cues for timing. Anything\'s possible.
I thought I was bad ass cuz I could beat him. This bastard can do it with his eyes closed!

Fred, good to hear from you. I\'m glad to hear that you are getting a bit better. Post here more often. Its rare when we get a new person that stays for a long time. theomen likes to sodomize the new comers. That is why we don\'t have any girls on this board.
-
Ok,i will post more often
The way i use the one controller is steer with my thumb and accellerate with your forfinger and middle( i know thats gonna pull in a barrage of crap). But oh well i dont really give a flying barnum & bailey. Believe me i hit more then my fair share ofwalls and other cars, but its still fun.
