Title: SPDIF output
Post by: acemaverick on January 02, 2005, 04:53:34 PM
...before I get the whole noob thing chucked out here I \'have\' already searched the forums for a topic of this description and nothing came up......

basically all I want to know is whether or not it is possible to use the digital out from a PS2 to connect to a pair of headphones...in other words outputting the sound directly from the PS2 to headphones.  My TV doesnt have a headphone socket on it and I want to be able to listen to games via headphones (somehow) the digital out is one way ive thought might be possible but any other suggestions are appreciated.....Thanx...

no, not without some kind of convertor.

You are better off going to radio shack and getting a stereo RCA to mini plug/phno adapter.  Then you can plug your headphones into the red and white RCAs.  To mess with the optical out is pointless.

I HATE THESE F&)#&$CKINGH N00BS SCREW UP EVERYTYHING

btw you need an amp, something like this (http://www.headsave.com/govibe.html) will be fine for headphones.  Then use this:

(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.radioshack.com%2Fimages%2FProductCatalog%2FProductImage%2F274%2F274-883.jpg&hash=d88aeeb128595fc1c4904a7d12c3a1d78bceb7f1)

to go ps2 > stereo analog cables > adapter pictured above > headphone amp > headphones > ears > eardrum > brain > enjoyment.

If that doesn\'t suit your fancy check out the prices for used mini shelf systems.  They can have analog and even a digital optical input for audio, and almost all of them have a headphone jack.

I use the Creative Extigy Soundblaster for Dolby Digital sound on my PStwo. I hooked up Sennheiser HD570 headphones to it. Sound is great :thepimp:

THX, you have the male end on the mini there. You need a female end to plug the male from his headphones into.

Honestly, do I have to teach you that the male end goes into the female end again?  No swordfights!!!

Actually the adapter is the right one if that headphone amp is involved.  If he plugged it straight into his headphones he\'d have no way to control the volume.

ps- my dad\'s philosophy is why talk when you can do?
