Title: Something I pondered about cloning
Post by: Titan on January 10, 2005, 07:04:25 AM
I was in Ecology when I had a thought. I asked my teacher the question but she didn\'t know. Now I really want to know. If I cloned myself, would the clone be considered my brother or my son?

I first thought it would be my brother because it has the same DNA as me and I got the DNA from my mother. I then thought more and thought, woulnd\'t it be my son since I am really the father? What do you guys think? Son or brother?

He wouldnt be your son because he would have the same DNA as you exactly. He would be YOUR CLONE...

I guess if you wanted you could call him your brother if your parents took him in and raised him.

That being said if I was to come out and move in with you and your parents started to raise me I would be your brother too. Brother is a pretty loose term.

Of course I could be the Son they would be proud of I actually made something of my life. And didnt post really stupid retoricle questions that made no sense what soever.

You could have pondered something more profound like:

Would he be you since he had the exact same DNA or would he be someone different?

he would be neither son nor brother, look up the definitions of brother and son for the answer....

and for cyrus\' question, he\'d be someone different, because monozygotic twins also have the same DNA and they\'re considered twins, not the same person

If you cloned someone, they\'d start out at birth, right?

I\'d consider him a little brother because I wouldn\'t want my own self as my son. Just seems creepy, heh.

He would be your clone. To be a brother or son he would need the DNA of another person (or persons in the event of it being your brother) through conception.

Techically he wouldnt be your brother or son.

He would just be you, and you would be him.

That\'s what some of my friends said, just a clone. Maybe if you look at it from a different perspective. If you raise it, I guess it can be considered your son. It would be an entire new person, just the same DNA. The person would have their own personality.

I remember in Metal Gear Solid, Snake is a clone of Big Boss, but the Snakes consider Big Boss their father. Just a tid bit of fantasy.

BTW, the mods managed to gay up another topic ;)

He would be neither. He would be an abomination of nature. Or \'clone\' if you prefer, sinner.

If he was your identical clone he would have your memories.

Since he has his own memories then he is his own person, so technically hes a clone but at the same time just a twin. Oh and the fact he was made in a test tube pretty much settle the brother or son argument.

You watched that crappy Arnold Schwarzeneggar movie about cloning, didn\'t you? [or that horrible "Godsend" movie]

There\'s simply no way to know if the memories would be passed on to the clone, or if memories are even tied into genetics.

In conclusion, cloning blows hard.

Let go of your trouser mouse Soulgrind and settle down. It will be at least 13 years before his clone is old enough for your tastes…

As for the memories part, there is no such way a memory could be handed down genetically. Maybe through teachings but they would never be the same. So in theory the child would be a CLONE. Nothing more, nothing less. Leave it to a student to over theoreticize a subject… :p

No I have not seen either movie, it\'s just something that i guess most people dont take into consideration.

A fly for example passes onto it\'s you all the memories and information it need to know so that it can survive etc. So why wouldn\'t they be passed onto a clone?? It\'s just a theory, there is also a theory that we carry in our mind the memories of lives before us, our great grandparents etc. but we cannot acess them due to our shitty brain usage.

I dont know unknown I think that instincts are a far fetch from genically embeding memories for one thing the day you come out your momma you are "genitcally" complete.. meaning at no other time in you life does you body genitically change that being said you have no memories yet so how can the be written to your genitic code?
