I\'ve been thinking about getting into flight sims (well, MS Flight Simulator 2004). But if I get it I\'d also want to have x amount of joysticks, yokes etc. So it\'d get quite expensive. :D
Any of you guys doing some of that stuff?

I have been into flight sims since, FS 98. Ihave FS98, 2002 PRO edition and 2004 a century of flight.
All I got for it was a 40$ joystick. You can fly any of the planes with a joystick, but you will need aids for the rudder etc.
There are thousands of addon aircraft to download on the internet. http://www.simviation.com http://www.flightsim.com
I have not got a yoke.
Flightsimulator (Microsoft) is very deep. There are alot of places to fly besides the MSN gaming zone online. There are dedicated servers for the very hardcore Flightsim guys. If you get into some of the hardcore online flights it is very tough. The air traffic talk is very realistic. My brother is into planes planning to be a pilot and he knows alot about this. He is able to understand them and fly.
My brothers computer is 1300 mhz 128 mb geforce 4 512 ram. The game runs at about 24 fps with normal settings. That is fine. You will soon find out that you will spend most of your timelooking at yoru instruments and not outside so framerates above 20 will do.
The learning curve is, in my opinion, the toughest of any game out there. Not manuvering of the plane, necessarily, but using and learning your instruments properly can be very tough.

what\'s the purpous of a flight sim? Do you just fly from point A to point B?
<---- has never played one.

Yes, basically. And learn how to crash into buildings... otherwise there isn\'t any action going on, unless you play a combat sim. But that\'s a whole other area. :)

:D
I like flight sims, FS2004 is quite good. The longest flight I have flown as Arlanda - Newark (not in realtime :P )
Im on a long ass flight now as well but with stages: Cairo, Jerusalem, some Polish city where I had to crash-land in order to refuel, Kalmar, Bergen, Iceland, and now Im in Newfoundland. :)
I use a Saitek Cyborg something, it has a pretty cool throttle which looks like a mini-version of the once they use in airliners.
Still IL2 Fogotten Battles is still the best flight simulator. Playing the dynamic campaign as a Finn was very fun.

Like stated earlier, Simviation.com has addon planes. I used to go there often and download the fighter planes. A lot of them are absolutely sick. I need a new control stick, then I\'m gonna get back into the flight sims. That and a new computer.

what\'s the scenery like?
