Well, he has a point.  The crooks are there to serve time because they are a menace to society.  We shouldn\'t be spending tax dollars to make their stay more entertaining.

This does not serve the public interest.  What\'s going to happen when these inmates are released, and their fragging skills have atrophied to the point where they can\'t even beat a 12 year old in Counter-Strike, or complete a single level of THPS2?  They will be completely unprepared to reenter society!

All that money allocated for video games and no one to spend it on. Maybe they can hook us up?

I\'ve always felt that prisons should be about rehabilitation in addition to punishment. I think rehabilitating a criminal is better for everyone in the long the run and serves to reduce the number of repeat offenders.

Hey, but its cheaper to throw them in a box and let em rot for 10 years so fuck em.

/I still don\'t think they should have access to video games.

Good point.  If everyone had some personal time with a psychiatrist or pastor I think it would be more than worth the money.  But then again I see a lot of these criminals being a hazard to another person in a room with no supervision.  Mental help works the best when it\'s one on one.

The punishment should fit the crime. Eye for aneye. Maybe then we would see less crime. Sure we might lose a few innocent men and woman but in order to make an omlett you have to break a few eggs...

They should have video games. Just put a Teletubbies game in there. That is motivation NOT to play. But really, screw the games.

Wow. Way to trivialize what Ghandi did.

The guy fought for Indian independance from British rule. He is roughly the equivalent of a Thomas Paine in US History.

He used non-violence to protest British rule and that makes him not worth listening to. Nice.

Assclown.

Project, if you are willing to do whatever it takes to stop crime, then I hope to god you never gain any political power. Anywhere.

Don\'t worry DH, project has as much chance of gaining a political position than you have at winning a spelling bee.

I think this might be the first time I agree with DH ;) They should be reformed, not killed or whatever.

Some one steals something from the local store, what would exactly be the eye for an eye there?

that actually happens in other countries..if you\'re caught stealing, they actually will cut your hand off...or at the very least some fingers...

Statistics show that crime rates are considerably lower in countries with this form of punishment.

I don\'t agree with an eye for an eye. It isn\'t the best way. I think make prison a place for rehabilitation. This way, we can salvage a person that was once a criminal. Murder is the exception. If he can be rehabilitated, great; otherwise put the bastard away.

Do you pay taxes bud? Considering that I pay for their rehabilitation it makes more sense to nip the crim in the bud before it starts. Make a spectacle out of a few then others will make a better decision in the end. It\'s more proactive than reactive.

But if you cut off a dudes hand and he can\'t work anymore, my taxes are going towards his welfare and he\'s not doing anything productive with society. If we spend that money on rehabilitation, he gets out and does something productive with society.

He would not be able to collect welfare for any physical problems caused by his punishment. Besides, people can still make license plates with one hand…

Please elect me for Dictator of the United States of America.

Criminals will be publicly humiliated. Death Row Inmates will be hanged in public and televised on Fox TV right after The Simpsons.

All women, and I mean ALL WOMEN, who are physically able, will be forced to exercise and tone their bodies. They must wear mini skirts and no tops. Fat ones will be forced at gun point to get on the tread mill at various wheat farms to grind out flour.

NASCAR will be destroyed and replaced with World Rally Racing.

Vegans and vegitarians will be part of the food group - FOR OMNIVORES TO CONSUME. It\'s only natural that herbivores be eaten.

I will have the Mexican/American Canal built. Mexicans will call it a moat....I call it a canal.

They can bitch about it with Canada, the 51st State.

I don\'t quite get eye for an eye... someone steals something and you cut off his hand... um yeah, that\'s exactly the same! And if someone jaywalks he should have his feet cut off.

They wouldn’t cut off their feet for j-walking. They would be flogged at the ankles.

Your theory is flawed.

People don\'t commit crimes expecting to get caught.

Jail does not stop criminals, it punishes them.

Well, considering that prison is three square meals a day and a free trip to the gym along with cable television and before today… videogames… I would say that prison sounds all right when compared to the street being left with no hand because I stole somebody’s car.

Not all prisons are like that. If you commit a petty crime like pick pocketing and get caught, they aren\'t gonna throw you in a maximum security prison, and you aren\'t in for more than like 10 years. In most maximum security prisons, you are in your cell 20-23 hours a day. I did see on the Discovery Channel one maximum security prison where the prisoners could roam for 23 hours a day as long as they attend classes and study. They could use computers, study law, medical, and other career. They never had a problem to this day. No attacks, no nothing. They could get jobs within the prison like cooking and they use real knives. No problems. Now that is a great example of rehabilitation prison.
