geezzz seeing how that is the price of a freaking console. I don\'t see how sony expects to sell these things at the price.

This is for the Value Pack, and they aren\'t selling it as a stand-alone console at the moment. That\'s why it costs so much. I think it\'s a good deal for what you\'re getting.

yea..i\'m not too interested in any of the portable gaming consoles...i don\'t play games on the go...

$250 and it comes with the added bonus of not being something you want to use on the train or in public where someone could grab it out of your hands. $250 is just dumb.

$250 for a PSP + all that shit that comes with it (UMD Movie, Spiderman 2 I think, 32MB Memcard etc), is a pretty good price.

USA is way too used to low consumer electronics prices.
Here in Europe we\'ve always been paying such prices, in Euro\'s, i might add (which is stronger than USD atm)

Sounds like a superb price considering all that and the fact that its very powerful considering its just a handheld.And its just the launch price

Will parents spend that much when they could grab their kids a Game Boy? Will adults buy it for themselves since they\'d never use it?

Kids nowadays get what they want, so it wouldnt surprise me. how many parents bought a portable DVD so they dont hear their kids ramlbing while traveling in car? it was the hardware that sold the most this holyday seasons.
Many adults use train, subway to go to work... a PSP will be nice :P

The PSP will sell fairly well to hardcore gamers but will not become a phenomenon like so many of you think it will. Sony seems to be banking on older gamers clamoring for one when in fact most older gamers don\'t care about handheld gaming. Other than playing with the display model at the counter while waiting in line at a gaming store I have never touched a GBA/DS.
Older gamers are not going to buy it as an MP3 player because there are better/cheaper MP3 players. They are not going to buy it to watch movies because no one but Sony is signed on to support the format and it is a small ass screen. When it comes down to it its a more advanced GBA with a couple more bells and whistles.
NOW if Sony somehow figures out a way to make this a viable addition to the PS3 then its a whole new ballgame.

He\'s pretty much on the mark, well here anyway. I haven\'t got any mates that play with handhelds. Most of them prefer to update their pcs or buy consoles...

Out of the guys I know IRL who are shared their opinions on both DS and PSP, a majority favours PSP.
However, the guys who said they prefer
the DS are actually gonna buy the DS. Dunno if the same applies to the guys who
prefer PSP.......
Anyway, the newest of news is that the European PSP won\'t make it in March, so I think the DS\'ll have a great opportunity to set solid base in Europe.
Personally, I\'m not gonna buy either handheld. At least not right away. I got a GBA 1st edition collecting dust in the cupboard.
I think DS is gonna be quite a succes, although I certainly don\'t like to see PSP fail.
The major concern i think PSP has is it\'s UMD format ;
- the drive slurps up way too much battery power
- the UMD, no matter what they say, will always be more prone to disk skipping than solid state media.
On the other hand ; there have already been reports of DS ROMS on the net....

Will buy DS eventually for the new 2D Castlevania - for no other reason.
Still waiting for compelling reason to buy the friggin\' PSP.

Seriously...the graphics are the best of any handheld in history.

Real life looks pretty realistic, too. Maybe he wants something more in a handheld console.
Course, if that something is Need for Speed Underground and a Metal Gear spin-off, he\'s not looking hard enough.

PSP\'s graphics are amazing.
Check out Ridge Racer PSP, it seriously looks better then Ridge Racer 5 on PS2.
Vomits all over that Asphault GT game.

No.
It uses a UMD minidisc.
And it eats babies.

UMD disc size is only 6 cm in diameter, while MiniDisc is 8 cm, and regular size disc are 12 cm.
So, psx games won\'t fit on UMD...not to mention storage capacity of UMD is higher than 12 cm CD...and it uses it own laser pickup that is probably finer than DVD.
the spec said 6 cm UMD can store up to 1.8 Gbytes. While 8 cm DVD can only hold up to 1.5 Gbytes...

the price is ok for what your getting. I already reserved mine and traded in all the games that I never play anymore, so all I have to pay as of this point is $130.00 for my psp bundle :D.
there are many reports of defects for the japan versions, lets hope that they have corrected this before it hits us shores though I doubt it will.
I\'ve heard of flimbsy breaking analog sticks, dust collecting behind the screen, turning it on and the screen doesnt work, dead pixels, the notorious sticky square button, etc. etc.
I havent owned any handheld except the DS and I returned it a week later because hell, I want a PSP and I\'m not nerdy enough to own both.

Agreed. It looks very fun and the music is awesome imo. I have some pretty neat videos on my computer that really make me want a psp. If only it wasnt so much. After a few pay periods i should be straight on buying one depending on how much i spend on gas and crap.
It will take 6 weeks. Idk. I want it, but for a price that i could get a new ps2 and some is kind of eh...
