Title: Anyone A+ certified?
Post by: theomen on February 06, 2005, 05:25:25 PM
I\'ll be taking the test for the hardware in about a month and a half and then the OS part in the summer, and was wondering how nasty it is.

My friend is doing all those tests, now he\'s on his 3rd MCSE test for networking or whatever.  All I know is it\'s a ton of reading and if you fail you really pay for it. :\\

If you have a good head on your shoulders though you should do well, like my friend.

Post by: mm on February 06, 2005, 07:45:05 PM
it\'s a joke

i hope you didnt pay for classes to study for it.

they (a+ and n+) are kinda dated anyways, no real point in having them.  i dont even put them on my resume.

skip them, and go MSCE and CCNA unless you wanna work the helpdesk
Title: Anyone A+ certified?
Post by: §ôµÏG®ïñD on February 06, 2005, 08:34:39 PM
A+ isn\'t dated mm, they\'ve changed it to the cover the newer technologies.  I\'m just doin the A+ Cert outta boredom really, EP are paying for it, its not a course, just the tests. But it also helps somewhat get a techy job.  If i\'m not working by june i\'ll be applying to do the electronics diploma anyway. I want to wait till i\'m 25, but if i\'m not working it\'ll be pushed forward.

Only type of work i\'m after is techy or something in electronics engineering.

Theres a sybex Test engine u can use to get examples of the questions.

mm, A+ isn\'t dated like souly said, but you do have to cover stuff that isn\'t bleeding edge tech because not everyone (companies included) out there has brand new pc\'s.  None the less, I\'m still going the CCNA route next semester.

Wow, I wish I was as cool as you mm.  Maybe someday I\'ll be enough of a bipolar social outcast where I will spend my waking hours trying to annoy and insult strangers on an internet message board.  All the time while proving that I\'m a unknowledgable, self loathing individual who will eventually make the news after shacking up with a hard trick named Jim and dying from a masive overdose of vitamin J.

BTW mm, I said I will be getting my ccna and mcse over the next year and a half, but if trying to insult other people so that your own inadequancies aren\'t quite so obvious, is your thing than by all means continue.  I mean after all, you got that going for you.

odd, us aussies can get anyware from 18 to 25 ph for pc technician work.

anyway, its what they call a Level Entry job for me. A step up to being a computer electronics engineer.

oh and mm, i heard u work at blockbuster, don\'t have any certs whatsoever and you\'re just totaly full of s@#t.

When u think about it, its probably true, I barely see u help people if at all and you\'re always harpin on about movies...

soully, you live in the asscrack  of the world.  they pay you blokes in wood chips.
please stfu, thanks
if i cared to spend 5 seconds to satisfy your pathetic insult, i would  post my resume.

theomen,  i\'m trying to help you out and avoid the pitfalls i almost fell into entering the computer field years ago.  don\'t want my advice?  i care very little, you\'ll just have to find out the hard way.

when you pay all the money to take the a+ test, i want to you think of me and ask yourself, "wtf am i taking this for?"

here\'s a few A+ sample questions:

Which of the following is port address for serial port COM1?

A.    3F0-3F7
B.    2F8-2FF
C.    320-32F
D.    3F8-3FF

Which processor has first combined the L2 system cache inside the processor CPU package?

A.    80486
B.    Pentium
C.    Pentium Pro
D.    Pentium III

i bet bill gates doesn\'t even know this high tech stuff

mm, if you\'re truly trying to help then I\'ll accept it at that, but what I\'m saying is that I\'m not focusing soully on the A+.  It will only be a part of my certs along with the CCNA and MCSE
Title: Anyone A+ certified?
Post by: mm on February 07, 2005, 03:38:23 PM
bah, had a nice long post typed up and firefox crashed

what im trying to say is this:

the A+ test will cost you 300$ to prove you memorized for at least 5 minutes the very basics of computer hardware and how an OS handles it.

skip it, A+ is meaningless.

MSCE and CCNA are hard, took me a long time to get both while working a full time job.

Good luck, i mean it.  the computer field is tough to get into without being laid off in a year or being hired as a contractor.
Title: Anyone A+ certified?

well, the A+ test costs me $70 so it\'s not that bad.  As for the computer field, I have lots of other areas I can go into, I\'m a certified personal trainer, certified EMT,  an AS in administration of justice, and will have a Bach in English in a year or so.  Though I would like a job in the computer field, I have a few things to fall back on.

errr, who said i\'m focusing on A+ cert, i\'m doing it simply because i\'m not paying for it. Its just to help me get work till i go to school full time.. Electronics is my field choice.

and mm, its not my fault the states are so full of techys that so many go for jobs they get paid crap all for it.  Thankfully Australia is different. Ohh please post your resume and infact scans of your certs. I\'d LOVE to see them.

MSCE hard, my brother didn\'t seem to have much trouble.

theomen, don\'t listen to mm, just do whatever courses/certs you want. He\'s just a grumpy old blockbuster worker.

Have A+, and can\'t say it has ever helped me. If anything it is a nuisance. Dont put it on my resumes at this point either.

Suppose it is a good intro to the certification process.

I got my A.A.S in computer programming. I was going to take the A+ test about 1yr 1/2 ago. But found out like MM is saying there really was no need to take it. And I could have taken it for free.

I mean if you just wanna have something on your resume then I say go for it. From what I hear the test is based on how many question you answer in the amount of time.

Title: Anyone A+ certified?
Post by: THX on February 08, 2005, 02:53:31 PM
Simple answer: just browse hotjobs or monster.com for the job you\'re looking for and see if they list A+ cert as one of the requirements.
Title: Anyone A+ certified?
Post by: §ôµÏG®ïñD on February 08, 2005, 05:39:44 PM
Did it, Got 4 jobs. All pretty much techy jobs (http://jobsearch.monster.com/jobsearch.asp?q=%22a%2B+certificate%22&cn=&sort=rv&vw=b&cy=US&re=14&brd=1%2C1862%2C1863)

In Australia you get pretty much asked at every IT interview what certs you have. My brother has been turned down for tech jobs because he\'s over qualified. So that’s the main reason i\'m not going into MCSE or CCNA. I just want a tech job for a little while then go to school. Computers aren\'t my career choice, electronics is. Although I’ve just been employed, its not a tech job. :/
I\'m sure if u aim hire then techy jobs the A+ cert is useless. From the mates i know and their own experience, to get a tech job that’s the only cert you need.
Title: Anyone A+ certified?
Post by: mm on February 08, 2005, 07:13:20 PM
bro, a "tech job" and being an IT professional are totally different animals.

the first three jobs in that link flat out suck.  i wouldnt recommend them to high school students that went to vo-tech.
the 4th could have potential depending on salary.

so yeah, if you want a bullshit "tech job" replacing broken mice, dirty keyboards, and walking people thru installing AOL, then go right ahead.

A+ rocks for you and your low expectations.

now, if you want  any kind of "admin" or "IT management" position, skip A+ and go right for the big hitters.
Title: Anyone A+ certified?
Post by: §ôµÏG®ïñD on February 08, 2005, 07:15:50 PM
like i said, i don\'t want a career in pcs. Only in electronics, mm mode
i\'m aiming higher then being a Admin or in IT management. /mm mode
If thats your choosen field. Good for you. I personally find it very boring brain dead type of work.  Tech jobs pay well here, like i give a shit that they don\'t for you guys. I\'m not gonna screw around getting certs i don\'t need nor want.  Like i said, once i\'m 25 i\'ll be schooling fulltime.

Let me make it clearer for your simple one track mind.
A+ = Free for me. = Decent paid tech job.
2 years later = Getting paid to school for Advanced Electronics diploma. = Electronics Engineering job = very high paid job.

anything u say after this is just self centered bs anyway.

I never realized how stupid A+ certification is:

When working on a user\'s PC you notice that the fan on the power supply is excessively dusty. After turning the PC off, what would you use to clean it?

( A  )    Spray bottle of Windex

( B  )    A toothe brush

( D  )    A damp paper towel

( E  )    A vacuum cleaner

stfu mm, you have no idea what the current A+ tests are.  How long ago did u take it..  yea thought so.

Another one is
Which of the following is not a good assembly aid?
A. Read the directions.
B. Take your time.
C. Check cables for proper orientation.
D. Don\'t worry about the connections -- once you plug them in, they\'re secure.

Theres heaps of gay questions like these.

heres another, You\'re (Old-skool) crap probably doesn\'t cover current technology

Water-Cooling systems use a _________________ on the cpu instead of a heatsink

A. Cooling Tube
B. Water block
C. Block of ice
D. Fan

Heres another one..

What type of expansion slot is almost always used for high speed, 3D graphics video cards?
A. USB
B. AGP
C. PCI
D. ISA

these questions are purely stupid.

Then u have a few questions which aren\'t hard but you do need to learn.   Example..

Which of the following standards is commonly referred as a firewire port?
A. IEEE 1294
B. IEEE 1394
C. ISO 1294
D. IEEE 1666

You don\'t know s@#t about the current A+ tests. so please run along.  The A+ cert is good for people that want to be techys or want some gateway job into the industry. So how am i running into the other direction? Yea its useless for high end IT jobs. But who says people want high end IT jobs. I don\'t, i want a high end engineering job.  Yea its got stupid questions.    Please tell me where i said otherwise?    thought so..

infact, i want you to PROVE to everyone on this entire site you have the certs / degrees you say u have. I really don\'t believe you anymore, all you can say is "google this" or "if you don\'t know, i\'m not telling you"  you never have anything worth while to say.

Connect to HD led wasn\'t to throw u off mm. Its a HD LED reactor. Think of the knight rider car. It simply moves through the leds as the HD is active. Very simple thing.
Smarts come in different ways, mine is electronics and computers.

I just don\'t want a high up IT job. I\'m more interested in electronics. The A+ cert is just to help me get tech work while I’m waiting to turn 25. That pays pretty well here. Then I’ll be schooling full time and getting paid for it.   If you can\'t understand that then you\'re just proving how retarded you truly are.

oh and mm, try to be coherent when you type please.....

It reacts to your HDD being active. Like the led on your case. But it does it in a sequence.

like this as a example.

I have to get mine for my job soon, 13.85 an hour starting out at help desk ain\'t bad compared to 8+ an hour at a retail place.

You should all realise that all these "certificates" are just a money making scheme peddled by money grubbing companies. It doesn\'t cost them anything to give these tests, so why do they charge thousands of dollars for it?! Go to uni and get a real degree you losers! :p

Also, Star Trek owns Star Wars if Star Wars didn\'t have Jedi. SO THERE SETTLED!!!!!!!!

it\'s not like they mail you the test, and you mail it back.  they have test centers to operate, and staff to pay.

Well I don\'t pay for mine, my company will, so I\'m not wasting any of my money, otherwise I probably wouldn\'t get it.
