Title: Spyware Scandal
Post by: THX on February 16, 2005, 01:21:10 AM
Speaking of spyware

http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,12665642~mode=flat

Cliff notes: a handful of ad companies are paying popular spyware removal makers under the table to allow their programs on the list.  This guy found it out.

Worst perp: Ad-Aware by Lavasoft with PestPatrol not too far behind.

Guess we\'re supposed to trust MS\'s new anti-spyware tool?  They definitely don\'t need bribe money.

I installed that MS antispyware application, but then uninstalled it because it was draining my system resources too much.  Jpg images took 2 additional seconds to open in my image viewer app, ACDSee.  Very frustrated.

For some reason I don\'t have the same problems with spyware that everyone else does.  Maybe because I don\'t visit shady warez websites or click yes to every install applet dialog box that comes along?
