I just found out that I was accepted into a position at another company. My boss hasn\'t come into work yet today, but when she does, I have to break the news to her.
I\'m nervous because I\'ve been with this company for 5 years and I am leaving my comfort zone.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to the "best way" to give my notice? Before or after lunch? Should I be apologetic or just state the facts?
-
Do it at lunch. Just walk up to the table and be like:
"Yo B**** i QUIT!"
And toss her coffee in her face. Walk away and then come back.
"Oh. I forgot. Here\'s my notice"
Then bark like DMX, smile and walk away.
Make that run.
Im sure that\'ll work ;) jk
-
I would make sure you write down and give it to her, let her enjoy her lunch, then talk to her after . Ask if you could speak to her in her office, then tell her, always better to not burn any bridges
-
Yeah, fred\'s right... then offer to pursue any romantic urges you\'ve been suppressing.
-
I told her after lunch. I let her know that I wasn\'t leaving out of displeasure of my job and that it was an offer I had to take, for me and my wife\'s benefit.
She freaked.
I think my next 2 weeks here are going to be rough.
-
She freaked... Maybe she\'ll offer you a raise. Are you in the web design business?
-
Sorry to hear she was not very understanding, look at it this way its only two weeks.Finish, your time there, take a couple of days before your new job and relax. If your boss is truly professional, she will think about her reaction cool down, and not make the remainder of your time bad.. After you leave you could always send her a thank you card or a small arraingment of flowers, thanking her for the time you were there, no hard feelings.

Nice.
I dont know how you put it to her but im surprised to hear that she "freaked." What exactly did she do/say anyway?
If you have to do anything, i think Fre has the right idea.
-
well if she was hot you should\'ve slapped her on her behind and said "share that and I\'ll stay" if she was not slap her on the behind and say "do something about this and maybe I\'ll stay"
you\'re bound to get a raise and some poo tang or you\'ll get out of working those two weeks.

I recently went through a similar thing about a month ago. I told my boss I got another job offer and I didn\'t expect him to match it. He asked me how much I wanted so he could keep me, so I asked for more than the other job and he accepted!
I couldn\'t believe it... I was sort of stunned. So I accepted the job (I had accepted both jobs at the moment, and couldn\'t make up my mind.) I didn\'t want to give up my "comfort zone" but I had a 45 min commute each way. This new job was 2 blocks from my house. So I went in and told my boss I was sorry for flip-flopping and put in my 2 weeks notice the next day.
Suffice to say he let me go that day with 2 weeks pay. He said it wouldn\'t be "fair" to my co-workers if he let me finish out my 2 weeks. So I got a nice little vacation and started my new job, which I came to find out is even more laid back and I couldn\'t be happier.
Sometimes things turn out better even when you are afraid it will turn your life upside down.

Yea, I gave my notice couple weeks ago start my new job Monday, told my HR manager and thought it might filter down, haha, my store manager didn\'t find out til Monday, oh well I was told I\'m welcome back anytime though.
That always nice to hear.
-
She\'s way to old for me to even think of slapping her ass. I might break her hip.
I let her know how much my new position was starting at. I know that they can\'t match it.
I\'m going to be getting a 38.5% salary increase at my new job.
ps - sorry vid, I can\'t be your Howey connection any more.

I design and produce all of the print, and web marketing material for a Golf and Tennis Resort.
I work solo and take care of all of their in-house stuff as well as AD\'s, Billboards, postcards, brochures and maintain their website.

Congratulations. When I quit my job I told him right when he got there. I couldn\'t handle sitting there all day with it on my shoulder. HE didn\'t offer me didly squat. Which is cool because I\'ve already brought in 9 grand this year from them. Woohoo!! Man, it\'s great working for stupid people.

Well, my boss acted like we were married and I was cheating on her. Man, girl bosses get so emotional.
-
You probably timed it all wrong. Wait another week and she\'d be a whole new woman. ;)

Judging by what you have told me about this lady in the past, I expected she wouldnt take it so well. They all sound a little unstable around there. You could always come back with us :) Im sure there would be a pay increse, and you wouldnt have to work with Ann anymore haha!
I\'ll take care of the "benifits" :gfight:

Would I have to drive a forklift and sort never-ending rolls of vinyl?....
Sure, sign me up. J/K

What? Are you banging her? I say nuts to the boss. Just tell her the facts and say that you are getting a better job and that you are sorry you have to leave. And if she\'s hot, try and bang her ;)

I hope you really like your new place of work. Job hopping has a tendency to look unfavorable on a resume.
-
Well, it\'s Monday and she seems to have calmed down over the weekend. Now, she\'s just trying to gather every project she can think of for the year and have me complete them all in the next 2 weeks.
-
WOW. Lucky you. hopefully she doesnt make your life hell for the next 2 weeks.
-
It\'s only as Hellish as I let it become. There\'s no logical reason for me to push myself harder than usual. It\'s not like I\'m trying to impress the company that I am leaving.
-
aren\'t you afraid of losing your job security? i mean, 5 years at a company is a pretty long time

Yes, I know I could be at my current job forever if I felt like never getting a raise ever again.
-
What exactly did you do at your old job?

Now, I\'ll be doing the same for a different company.
My boss asked me today if I would be available to do freelance work for them when I am gone. She also let me know that if I ever wanted to come back, I am welcome to.
She was a lot calmer today than Friday. I think a lot of what she said on Friday was out of anger because she felt hurt by me leaving.

awww. Well hey, looks like you may have the chance to make even more money. Looks like you have a great thing going for you now. Your Rich BEOTCH

I\'m leaving my job in 3 days because of a sport. I don\'t feel like taking on a job and practice 6 days a week. I\'m not sure if I\'m gonna come back or if I\'ll find a better paying job.
