Title: Primary slave hard disk fail = means?
Post by: fastson on February 26, 2005, 06:26:46 AM
..most likely a busted HDD right? That’s what I thought too!

But.. ok a little back story first.

About two weeks ago my PC said the following while booting up “Primary slave hard disk fail” (press F1 to continue) and in BIOS the HDD was detected as having a size of 0MB, also the HDD changed its name from Maxtor 6Y080P0 to Maxtor CALYPSO YAR43KJZ.
so after a few attempts at getting it to work again (changing the jumper position, and changing from the master to slave position on the IDE cable) I sent it back to the store where I bought it from to have it replaced.

Yesterday I received an email saying they had sent the HDD back because they could not find any problems with it.

This is what the email said.

HDD tested with various test programs.
No faults found
No suspicious sounds heard from the HDD during the tests.

HDD formatted in Windows.
The correct size is detected.
No faults.

So I got the package from the post office, plugged the HDD in and guess what? Primary slave hard disk fail! AGAIN!
It’s the same problem! Did they screw up, perhaps mix up my harddrive with another while testing or am I missing something very obvious?!
I also tried connecting the HDD to my PS2 and see if that could detect it (it did before the disk fail) , but it doesn’t – yes its set to Master as it should, still no go!

The store is also charging me for the diagnostics they did.. I aint paying anything if the HDD is not working.

Im thinking of sending them a HDD covered in dog shit, if it turns out they screwed up that is.

yes, the drive is going bad

does it have to grow a mouth and tell you on it\'s own?

Preferably, then it could tell the incompetent bastards at the store that its DEAD.

Ill be damned if I have to wait another 2 weeks to get a new one.

Going to call them on Monday.

is the store near you?  or within driving distance.  I\'d take it personally to them. Some mobs don\'t wanna deal with warrenty claims and will dick people around as much as they can to avoid it.

online may be cheaper... something goes wrong and good luck.

Although i still get everything wholesale anyway so i don\'t bother much with online stores. I\'ve only done it twice for products i couldn\'t get anywhere in victoria. Once being HDloader and the other being the Blaze VGA adapter.
