Does it annoy anyone else how the media plays out blacks in the entertainment industry? Why do they even need to mention how many blacks there are nominated this year?
Who cares that Jamie Fox is black?
I just don\'t understand why we still live in an age where the race of someone is even brought up.

Coz he black, yo.

Maybe its because after hundreds of years of oppression, the oppressors feel they need to repay the oppressed.
-
It\'s not just the media that makes a point of mentioning it in every utterance. Did you not notice that 90% of Chris Rock\'s routine was about black actors, how stupid black movies are, how black viewers don\'t care about the oscar nominated films.. etc etc etc. I guess it\'s ok if black entertainers focus on racial differences, but the media shouldn\'t do it?
I get tired of hearing about it. Believe me, it gets old on BOTH sides of the coin. The media shouldn\'t keep mentioning it, and black entertainers should expand their vision.

What i dont get is the MOBO awards thing "Black music awards" or something like that, i know nothing about it so dont ride me ;). but if there was a white music awards thing then no-one would stand for it.

Thats because a large portion of awards in history have been basically white *etc* awards.
And Its not just black people that do it to themselves. A lot of people when referring to black actors call them just that and thus you get this typical black image and they are placed in roles fitting that stereotype. Of course they dont turn down certain roles which also plays into it.

Ha. Right. As if that\'s really true.
Yeah and Chris Rock\'s jokes may talk about black *whatever* but at least hes not talking about other people - though he does. If you cant laugh at yourself then you cant begin to do so towards others (not saying that you should make fun of other people. Not only that but the fact is that they are JOKES. You dont have to laugh but black people i know find it funny.
What do you call all the redneck and blue collar comics? Seriously. If the media portrays them as "black actors" etc. is it entirely their fault? To an extent it may be, but for the most part, the actors cant put words into these peoples mouths.
I just don\'t understand why we still live in an age where the race of someone is even brought up
Good question. Perhaps it\'s because there are differences between people. Of course not everybody acts a certain way but with differences come a lot of things. Dont hold me to just that argument, for im not saying anything that i believe to be undoubtedly true, but its a possibility.
Consider the fact that just 50 years ago, less, we were still going through race riots etc. Thats not a long time ago. While we may be over it, a shit load of other people certainly arent.

Maybe after a couple more generations, races will assimilate more, but who knows.

Who does know? After so much history, i think people find it hard to "assimilate" into, as the klan loves to say, "mud people." I mean its hard enough knowing where you came from in the first place and being proud of that and representing it. I cant imagine what you would do if you were German, Black and Asian - have an afro, even though youre blonde and have blue eyes, and do karate in an outfit covered in swastikas also while sporting some nike air force ones.
Seriously though, I have no idea what will happen and when. I can just tell that we arent at any real breaking point IMO.
-
I didn\'t mean assimilate like take characteristics of everything...although a blonde guy with an afro would be pretty funny to look at. I mean assimilate like be completely tolerant and no one looks at race to decide their likeness of a person. Things like inter-racial marriages and stuff more common.

What do you mean? That mostly white people win the awards? If so, then who gives a fuck... most likely because they deserve it.
And if you mean its meant to be white... wow

Think viv. How many black people do you think won grammy\'s in 1958? Or even the next 10 years after that? Maybe 20?
Or how many many black people - or any person for that matter won an award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 1927? Or even when the Oscars were first televised in 53? Or 20 years down that road? etc. etc.
Im sure there were even awards before this - not that they matter much, but the point is that ALL of those award ceremonies, even if there were black musicians or actors worthy of the award, probably didnt even nominate a single one because of our society at the time and we are only talking about less than 5 decades. Perhaps awards were given to black musicians and actors but very few, and im sure there were more trying to get into the business that simply couldnt.
I dont mean to ramble but think into things a little bit before getting all heated like im trying to come down on whitey.
Shit. I mean we all make poor judgments but come on.
-
Im not coming down on you like that. I dont see what the oscars in 1935 have to do with 2005.

History perhaps.
We cant pretend like racism doesnt exist, and even in the recent past Black actors and musicians have been labeled as such. Not all, of course. Its not as huge of a deal now and i dont really like the way the media covers them either but the point of that comment was to support the idea of "black music awards" etc. vs "white music awards." I dont think they are the greatest thing in history but they give blacks something to call their own.
The whole thing starts to get complicated from there so i wont elaborate, but considering how long black people/minorities havent been involved in these award ceremonies, it really shows you that for a large part of their history, they HAVE been technically" white etc. awards." Not to even mention things like the Country Music awards :p.

all I know is that Chris Rock was so watered down it wasn\'t worth having him host the ceremonies...
-
whoa. I just look up Chris Rock imdb profile and its said he was born on February 7, 1965. He\'s 40 years old. I can\'t believe it. When i saw him on tv, i thought he was in his mid to late 20s. I didn\'t think much about it, if I think about it, I would think he would be in his early 30s. But 40 years old. interesting.

Why do ppl fail to see that knowing the past is a lesson for the present and future ?
THAT is the kind of reasoning why mankind will make the same mistakes over and over. I\'m not saying every person should know every history tidbit fact, but a certain general knowledge and sense of context is crucial.
Sigh, a similair debate i remember about Neo Nazi\'s. Yes, they do feed on WW2 Nazi idealism, even if alot of them are not completely aware about what it\'s all about In any case : these are past mistakes which somehow pop up again.
denying that it has nothing to do with those past events is the worst you can do.

Knowing what happend in the past is important but to blam current society for thing that others did in the past is not right,
With that reasoning however the Jews will always hate the Germans and good riddance too cause Im sure today germans are just as bad if not worse than the ones of the past I would expect anytime now a new era of jewish genocide.....

just what kinda shit do you smoke in Arizona anyway?

^ Well sorry, but that was not the point i was trying to make.
I\'m just saying that we as mankind/humanity would do the right thing by at least trying to learn from the past.
Today\'s victim could be tomorrow\'s perpetrator.
On the comparison between the Oscars 1935 - 2005 ; this example is too narrow draw any direct conclusions : but taken into a larger context we can learn from it on how US society through time has dealt with racial issues.
Dismissing such historic cases immediately as unimportant to the present and future to learn from them, is not a good thing imo.

"In the future, there won\'t be anymore white or black people. Everyone will be a mix of Asian. Indians and Chinese are the 2 most populous races so you can run now but why fight it? Let\'s assimilate now...
Breed an Italian with a Jamaican, get a little Pastafarian...
An Israeli and a Indian, get a little Hinjew...
A Philippino and someone from Holland, get a little Hollapino...
French and Greek...FREAK!!!"

Good one Lord.
And also, I agree with Vid. Being black is almost like a freaking fad. If it\'s not the white people brining up the racial issues, it\'s the blacks and hispanics.
Why can\'t we just have awards where everybody is just...an actor? Not a black, white, hispanic or asian actor?
I understand the history behind it all. But seriously, I\'m with Cosby.

Oh the irony.

imo it just goes back to that oppression, slave mentality thing...they make it seem so special whenever a black actor gets anything why?..because those types of things was unheard of back in the day...bbc news was doing a small segment on how black people were bein lynched in the 30\'s & 60\'s and trust the 60\'s weren\'t really that long ago...
just like how denzel & halle berry got awards for what monster\'s ball? and i forgot the name of denzel\'s joint, but clearly both of those movies was not academy material...now malcom X..denzel should\'ve gotten an award for that, but because of the theme of the movie i knew THAT wasn\'t gonna happen..and as much as i like halle berry, none of her movies are of academy level if you ask me..she\'s just an average actress..
so yea the academy just basically threw some bones at the african americans the year they gave those awards to denzel and berry..but yea everybody needs to stop seperating each ethnic group and look at them as people...sadly that\'s never going to happen...
-
^thats the point I was trying to get across clips, but everybody here thinks Im a racist when I say it. *shrugs* o well

You have to admit your wording was quite harsh and not indicitave to what you were trying to get across.
