Title: This is annoying the shit out of me...help needed
Post by: Cerberus on March 11, 2005, 03:45:54 AM
I keep getting these irritating application error boxes coming up, and they seem to be coming up with increasing regularity.

Quite often, they come up randomly without me doing anything, but now they are starting to do it when I try to allow programs to access the net on my firewall settings.

As it stands right now, I can\'t allow/block things from accessing the net. When I do, these error boxes come up, then when I click cancel, it closes my firewall down and I have to restart it.

Anyone know why it\'s doing this?

i am not sure, but my first guess is a computer virus...

shrugs...

my computer sometimes are not responsive when i uses my mouse...i guess I should reinstall the mouse software program to see if it helps fix the "not responsive".

I have no problems with my mouse, whether I use it or not, but randomly, they come up, I can be opening a folder and one will come up, or I can just be clicking on an icon of any type, and again, it can come up.

Looks like I might have to, but the problem exists outside norton. I\'m getting these error boxes when I\'m not even doing anyhting related to it.

I was having simular problems once. I have to remember what I ended up doing.

What programs does the error occur within?

Could something be wrong with the memory itself? I.e. a memory card going bad?

Obviously by posting this question, you\'ve already done the obvious and placed your mouse in the freezer.

Nope, there\'s no room in there, my PS2, TV & DVD player are still in there.

:D

Anyway, I think (touch wood (*mmmm, touches wood*)) I fixed the problem with Norton (I seriously hope I have anyway). I did a rollback to a saved backup of my registry from a week or so ago, just before I ran my registry cleaner program, and that seems to have sorted it. It hasn\'t fixed the problem with it happening in general though.

So far, I play a little bit in the mouse icon in the control panel and the mouse seems to work better now and hopefully fixes the "not responsive" bug that happens at time.

Cerberus,
Its does sound like your computer is infected with viruses.  If you have Norton Anti-virus, hopefully, its the latest version you are having.  Update if you haven\'t for a long time.

That\'s a good suggestion.   I have Spybot and Ad-Aware Installed as were suggestions by THX long time ago, and its seem to be working otu pretty good.  If norton doesn\'t seem to fix it, try downloading spybot and ad-aware and see if it helps remove the "viruses".

Yes I have spybot, adaware, CWShredder. I\'ve run them all and they came up clean, and I\'m still getting them.

I Check for updates on both Norton and AVG daily, and whether I find any or not, I scan regularly. Most of the time, I scan every day, I never go more than 2 days without scanning.

I\'ve also run all the diagnostic tools Norton system works has with it, that hasn\'t found any problems either. All the scans I have done, with all the programs I use, they have all come up clean.
