I\'m considering buying one of these "USB jump drive" appliances that has been mentioned several times in the GT4 pics thread, partly for transferring stuff from this comp to my old one in times of emergency, partly for my PS2. I\'ve always wanted to save screenshots from my PS2 to my comp, but never actually new how to, up until now.
I need to know a few things first.
1. Am I right in thinking that the "USB jump drive" is the cigarette lighter sized cartridge that slots into the USB slot, and is not some complex piece of equipment that requires shit loads of space & cables?
2. When it\'s used in conjunction with the PS2, how does it actually work? Does it operate like a memory card? Can you download game saves off the net and use them on your PS2? Can you save games on it and back them up on your PC? Can you take screenshots of any game that allows you to save images?
3. How much data can one of these babies hold? Before any of you smart-arses say something like 128kb, or 256 kb etc, I know that, what I mean is, how much PS2 data would that accommodate?
4. Most importantly, do all makes of these devices work with a PS2, or is it certain brands only?

whoa, i didn\'t imagine these jump drive usb will be this popular. I guess GT4 makes make it a bit more popular.
1. Yes, that\'s what I thought too since i never own one. But I am very sure its those usb cigarette ligher\'s size...
2. i don\'t know.
3. I think its maximum space storage can varies, cheaper one should hold at least around 32 or 64 Mbytes while more expensive ones are around 128 Mbytes to 256 mbytes and beyond. Believe me, just capture jpeg high quality jpeg images can store as much as a couple hundred images on 32 Mbytes USB jumper drive and about 1,000 images on 256 Mbytes size. So, that\'s a lot. You will have less to worry about running out of space because they are plenty if you are only just capturing jpeg images. Because say, you can just capture say 50 jpeg images off your ps2, and you can send it to your PC, and save it on your pc. Then, empty the usb jump drive and repeat capturing images, so you won\'t have to worry about running out of space.
4. I hope any usb jumper drives work with all kind of devices. meaning I want compatibility and flexibilities. So, any jumper drives will work with any device that support USB and sending and receiving digital memory such as computer, playstation 2, pretty much any devices that support it...but really i don\'t know since i don\'t own one. But it would be weird if its restricted or limited somewhat...

How much did it cost?
I tried the method of using my digital camera via the usb cable, but with no luck.

It was only about £20 or £25 quid.

I\'ve got a lexar 512 meg. I haven\'t tried it on the ps2 yet, but I love it for my recording studio. I work at home on some stuff, and instead of wasting a cd, I just throw it on there to bring to the studio. Handy.

and what is the use of these pendrives in gt4?

Try it out for me if you would be so kind, I\'ve heard someone else on another forum say they have a Lexar 128 MB stick, and they say it works. I\'m assuming that if one Lexar stick works, they all should.

You can save images from the photo mode and in the photo replay mode on them, then transfer them onto your PC.

1. Yes
2. No, you can\'t save games. Only certain games like GT4 will support it. Actually, I think only GT4 supports it.
3. 64MB-2GB
4. Yes, all. I use a Memorex 128 that I got for 20 bucks at Best Buy and it works fine.
I bought mine for the sole purpose of using it with GT4 :) I also think it will come in handy transfering stuff from home to school or school to home.

I just have a generic one, no idea what the brand is.. works perfectly fine, gonna use action replay max to save my mem card save games to it and transfer them to the pc...
