Title: Splinter Cell III
Post by: Blade on April 04, 2005, 04:46:54 PM
Just installed it and played the first level.

I\'m glad to see Shader Model 3 being put to work on my 6800GT. Lots of sweet visual effects, and great framerate.

Oh, and the game is pretty nice too. :)

Yeah yeah, Mike.. the core gameplay is still the same. (it\'s a sequel, after all)

This is definitely a step beyond Pandora Tomorrow, though. PT, as neat as it was (especially in multiplayer) was essentially a high-quality, fleshed out mission pack for the original.

This one has higher production values and all new graphics. The first level is very well designed, I suspect the same of following levels.

:D I\'m loving it here too on my pc.

About MM\'s \'1.3\' remark ; this is actually
SplinterCell 2 becuz this game has the
original development team back on it.

Moreso than the tech itself or the storyline, the developer who did the game makes the biggest difference. Ubi Shanghai made a nice effort at Pandora Tomorrow but they\'re no Ubi Montreal.

If anyone has ever played SC1\'s add on missions Kola Cell and Vselka then you can clearly see that the Shanghai team ripped alot from those 2 add on missions into PT and even did a lesser job at it.

Really, what matters is that the original dev team is back and it shows. PT singleplayer is a b-side compared to SC1 and Chaos Theory. So, MM ; CT is the full sequel.

edit : i\'ll make some nice screenshots HDR style to post here ! :thepimp:

Definitely. I\'m playing on "Hard" (which is the middle setting) so far and it\'s pretty satisfying.

Not too easy or hard, and patience pays off. I spent about 5 minutes on one pair of guys.

I found out some cool gameplay in level 3.

That EEV vision mode opens some more possibilities than just spotting electronic devices. Hit the interact button and then you can, depending on the situation, do some funny stuff and see how the guards react to it.

yea, u can use the EEV vision and then spot electronic devices, then use the ZOOM mode and u can scan, interact with certain things.

i\'d definately like to grab this game, but I just started into Riddick... so it\'ll have to wait.

I wasn\'t that impressed with pandora tomorrow, but i\'ll give the series another chance.

PT sucks ass, so does the ps2 version of sc3.

get it only on pc or xbox.

I don\'t have any consoles, so yeah... PC all the way for me

although PT looked pretty, I just couldn\'t get into the missions.  Gives me hope since SC3 is made by the UBI montreal division.

I had reached level 6 yesterday night ;

 * Hokkaido *

OMFG ! We all saw some screenshots of that level, but you really have to see it on your own monitor to believe it. Especially with
sm3.0  ( gotta love that 6800GT ;)  )

Btw, i have noticed a distinct difference between HDR with Tonemapping and HDR without Tonemapping.

Enabling the Tonemapping makes for way more vibrant colors especially at the parts where the HDR is obvious. But sometimes it also makes some parts look a bit too color saturated but i guess that\'s a matter of taste.

oh btw. I\'m playing it on Extreme. Ehm for anyone who was played the previous SC\'s i would recommend this or otherwise the true SC \'fun\' gets lost a bit.

I\'m playing on hard myself, doing level by level until i get 100% on each level. I\'ve got the bank level down so well, i get through it without having to save once, or touch anyone.

I\'m working on the bank. The chance for 100% is so long gone that it\'s unbelievable.

I never just leave guys alone, if they\'re in the room with me. I knock almost everyone out.

Well...some levels do feel a bit stretched though.

I think it\'s becuz some of the buildings, the architecture feels artificial. Entry, hall,
rooms, they are there indeed, but in some
levels the way they are arranged would
be unlikely in reallife buildings.

I think the overall quality design of the levels might have been better if they only did 8 levels instead of 10.

The green/grey-ish suit sux imo. I\'d wish we could have the ability to choose a sneaking suit for each level  :(

I ledge threw a guard down. He didn\'t fall to the floor but got stuck on the bamboo tree. He kept yelling and waving for awhile before KO. He did not die. It was hillarious to see this ragdoll physics fvckup.

One of my favorite "mess ups" (I\'m not sure if it was a glitch or not) was on.. Level 4.

Lambert told me not to kill anybody, and I didn\'t.. until this one part where I was carrying a body and decided to climb down an elevator shaft. I grab on, the body drops what must have been 40 feet and apparently he survived because I didn\'t fail the mission. He landed on his head, too.

I laughed my ass off.
