Im not sure how the colour was determined here, but I have seen other colour photos from early 1900 taken by a Russian photographer when he documented the Russian Empire.
He used a technique where he took three photos of the same object, each photo captured the Red, Green and Blue colours via different filters. When you added Cyan, Magenta and Yellow filters to each photograph and put them together the result was a photograph in colour.

Quote
The Autochrome was the first viable colour photograph process, and was invented in 1904 by the Lumire brothers. The Autochrome "screen" was created by forming a layer of minute starch grains dyed in the primary colours (red, blue and green), behind which was a layer of panchromatic film. When the picture was taken these starch grains acted as tiny filters on the film. The film was then subjected to reversal development, and then viewed, as a transparency, though an identical screen. The pictures, though dark by present day standards, were delicate and of a soft pastel nature.

Someone should tell clips WW1 happened about 90 years ago so this would hardly qualify to be in CURRENT Events...

By the way, what army are those soldiers?

The black soldiers are from at the time French colony Senegal.

Here are some soldiers from Australia.

I am no expert in WW1 uniforms, but most of the white folks look like Frenchmen to me.

I saw a show on the History Channel where they did the battles of WWI in color. They must have taken original film and used computers or something to add color.

In the artcrowd they always rave about how black/white photo\'s are so much more \'authentic\'.

Seeing photographs like this only confirms my opinion that those ppl were talking utter crap. Heh, I knew I was right all along.

Thanx Fastson. These pics rock :bounce:

Yeah, but in 1945, they disbanded, ever since, they have been training people how to drive military vehicles backwards.

I think they still do. I know they have some sophisticated fighter planes and they developed the FAMAS (as seen in MGS). I don\'t know why they do though, they will probably never be in another war.
